There are three types of television scheduling: pre-echo, hammocking, and inheritance. Pre-echo involves airing a lesser known show before a popular one in the same genre. Hammocking places a new show between two established popular shows in the same or similar genre. Inheritance schedules an unpopular show after a successful one in the roughly the same genre to inherit some of the audience.

3. Pre – echo
 The show/documentary is shown before the successful program, which is also in the same type
of genre. An example of this is on the channel E4 - Gameface a fairly unknown and new TV
programme, which is showed before the inbetweeners – which is a very popular comedy
programme in a similar genre.

4. Hammocking
 The program/documentary fits itself in between successful shows in the same or similar genre.
An example from Radio times is on ITV2. American Dad plus Two and a half men are big tv
shows that have gained a lot of popularity. With the new first season Timewasters sandwiched in-
between the two programmes. All programmes are in the comedy genre as well.

5. Inheritance
 This type of scheduling inherits the audience, from the program before it. Usually that program is
a successful show that is roughly the same genre of the documentary. An example of inheritance
on television is on channel Pick. Road wars and Brit Cops are very successful, the programme
after - Britcam inherits this audience because it has lower popularity. In addition the programmes
are all crime related.
