2. Cover• To start my magazine, I did a photoshoot with Sam
alone so I could start editing one of my DPS straight
away. I did this around college and the photos came out
how I wanted them to, I was very happy with them.
• I did a cover of him as well and an advert page to add to
my products.
To start the process of my cover, I filtered through all the
photos of Sam and choosing around 5 that I liked. I then
chose 1 of them 5 to be my final cover. I chose this photo
because I liked the way the smoke was covering his right eye
– which is similar to the cover of i-D where the right eye of all
the models are covered because it it like the name. I also
liked the way the smoke looked, grouped in one area then
fading away around the edges, it looks clean and neat. To be
completely honest, I chose this photo because I thought it
looked edgy and niche and would make my cover look
‘different’ to the mainstream magazines.
To give the effect of the title
behind the head, I used the
magnetic lasso tool and traced
around Sam’s head and made
a layer copy and moved the
layers around so the text was
underneath the new layer of
Sam’s head. This made the
cover look cleaner and more
professional.
I used the same layout and fonts/colours as my practice
covers because I liked the way they came out and
wanted to replicate it to match, to create a theme/
aesthetic.
To give the magazine a more popular, professional finish to it, I
added ‘Jan 2020’ in the corner to show that it is a monthly
magazine.

3. AdvertTo create this advert, I used a screenshot of when
photoshop glitched my photos. I used this
because I liked the way it came out and it was
easy for me to layer and draw on to make it look
more defined and more aesthetic. The advert
doesn’t have the aesthetic of a real Chanel ad, as
they usually have a white background with a
picture of the bottle, making it straight to the
point, but also no that interesting.
To make the actual bottle say ‘Desire”, I chose a large
sized image from google then sampled the colour of
the bottle around the edge of the word to get it to
match perfectly. After I had successfully covered the
original name of the perfume, I chose a font very
similar to the Chanel font and replaced the name of
the bottle. I then added a black and white filter over
the top to hide any imperfections or mistakes that
happened when making the bottle.
To make the actual title of
‘Desire’, I typed it three times
(in different layers) and chose
different variations of the
Helvetia font. For the red
title, I warped it to give it a
round effect, to make it look
different. For both the red
and black layers, I turned the
opacity down, to make the
main white one stand out.
The glitch area behind the titles, I sampled from my first
double page spread. I did this because I liked the way it looked
behind the titles, and it made it ‘pop’ more.

4. DPS
These are the double page spreads that I made. It is
very similar to my practice and because I liked the
way it came out and wanted to replicate it as best as I
could. I like the way they came out, it looks better
then I wanted it to. I made them in the same way.
I started by adding a black rectangle and duplicated it
and moved it to the other corner to have them to
match. This added a structure for my article to go in.
I made sure to edit all my photos before starting the
DPS. I used glitches from when photoshop broke and
used them to my advantage. I think the glitches
behind and on the photos make the DPS look better
and more niche. The articles look similar because I
wanted the aesthetic to continue throughout the
whole magazine – even the adverts.
I used a graphics tablet to edit some of my photos to makes them more defined or make
them look cooler. I also cut out parts of some images and edited them on top of other ones,
such as Sam’s mouth in the first DPS, I edited it over the top of him on a bench to make it
look cooler. I did the same on the second DPS but used Millie’s eyes and put them over
Mayia’s, readjusting the colourings and making the back photo black and white to make
them pop more.

5. Overall
• I like the way my products came out, they actually came
out better then I thought they would. I like the glitches
and the general all round aesthetic of the magazine. I
found it easy to make an didn’t struggle when using
Photoshop and found that the images came out well and
I am happy with how it looks.
• Next time, I will probably use different locations to get
more variations on the double page spread. It will make
the pictures more interesting and have more of a
difference between them, rather then have them looking
similar to the others.
