This document summarizes the planning and design process for a lifestyle magazine mock-up. It describes creating a logo in Photoshop and Canva after issues with a Wix design. Mockups went through iterations with changing designs, fonts, and sections before settling on a layout in Canva. The magazine covers were inspired by Wanderlust magazine, using consistent color palettes and placement of subtitles, headers, and social links. Contents pages continued the cover image background with overlaid white text blocks to follow conventions while maintaining uniqueness.

in the actual magazine.

3. Logo
design
• To start I used Wix to create a logo but then the
website wanted to charge me to use it so I recreated
it in photoshop
• The logo is green and blue to make the reader
visualise the earth
• The at sign above the A is because of the name 'At
Large' and is also there to make the company seem
newer and more modern which the younger readers
will see as important.
• The shadow in the final version is only there for
aesthetics for when the logo is used in my covers.
• For the final version of my logo, I changed the font
from bold and removed the planet on the left side of
the logo, this was also made in Canva unlike the
second (Photoshop) and first (Wix).
4. Mocku
p
• My covers went through multiple different ideas during it's design stage
starting off with a bulky logo and blocky design,
the '#SUNSET' headline seemed too much so I decided not to use it in
the end similarly with the line down the left side of the cover which I
also decided was too much.
• The green block behind the logo/masthead seemed like a cool idea at
first, breaking the codes and conventions, but as I went on it didn't feel
like it fit.
• In this mockup I set up rough sections with temporary designs and
titles, with the font and titles changing a lot throughout the design
process.
• After this I decided to switch to Canva to design the covers which
ended up being much easier to use and allowed me to use the basic
layout for each one.
5. Covers
• The covers use a similar technique to the Wanderlust magazine in the
fact there is a colour palette used throughout the cover that consists of
similar colours to those in the actual image and also the colours used
in the masthead for example the colour used for the subtitle is the
same as the background for the puff.
• I have tried to make the subtitles fit in with the shape of the image to
add that appeal, I have also tried to keep it similar to the actual covers
by using similar language and writing techniques they use to draw the
reader in.
• I have removed the lines around the screen so no block behind the
masthead, no blocks behind the header and footer etc., which gives it a
simple yet effective aesthetic similar to the other covers I've looked at.
• The first cover is quite dark which I have tried to counter with
the lighter fonts.
• I noticed in the Wanderlust cover there are place names at the
bottom of the screen, so I tried to incorporate this into my design
6. Contents
• The covers use the same image as the covers in the background with a
white block over it, this was made by incorporating different aspects of
different designs so it follows the conventions yet is still unique.
• At first I only had single page spread but after some consideration I
realised that despite needing to remain a small mag for the
portability it still needed more content.
• They also feature socials at the bottom as well as a URL for the website
as a call to action.
