EPANDING THE CONTENT OF AN OUTLINE using notes.pptx
There's an app for that 6
1. There’s an APP for That!

Studies
(No grade; for adults)
English as a Second
Language class
2. We’ve compiled a list of our Top 10 Apps according to their applicability
in the classroom, their ability to boost student learning and growth, and
their ease of use.
Link to criteria for the apps we chose.
3. One basic assumption: we want apps to be
free to students, but we are okay with apps
that cost teachers to use or to even access a
central web capability that tracks students’
progress.
A valuable lesson:
Differentiation within apps is normally only
available for apps that we buy. While the
apps themselves may not be tailorable,
teachers can use the app results to adjust
their lesson emphasis for each student.

10. Middle School
Mathematics
Students in middle school
are most easily engaged
with games or lessons that
include avatar/lively
icons to encourage and/or
instruct. Engaging the
students and keeping them
engaged is a high
priority.
Applying is the highest
order of thinking
utilized, normally.
11. • At $5 /student, it is a worthwhile purchase

• Focuses on Middle School CC Aligned material
w/variety of quizzes and infinite retries

used to tailor/differentiate student lessons
• Website includes motivational icon/avatar that
will encourage the student as they develop and
give immediate feedback
• Setting up the classroom with student app
devices is the most technically difficult part;
actual assignments are intuitive, authentic
with reasons for real world math problems, and
encourage the application of knowledge
• Reason in top ten: The app is strictly a
classroom subscription app but ties together
positive aspects for all rubric requirements

skills to solve math problems to help a little
chimp travel from place to place
• Students love this animal game that is very
much like popular arcade games!
• Supports CC standards by grade level though
teachers have to do the work of marrying games
to standards for lessons.

great for free time work!

web page reporting can help

progress in the game to the next level, and
summaries at the end of a game session tell the
students about their weaknesses
• Difficulty of use varies since you can either
use the app as a standalone tool (easy) or make
