Age of band members: Matty Healy (28 Years old), George Daniel (27 years old) Adam Hann (29 years old) Ross Macdonald (27 years old)
Genre of music they play: Alternative rock/ pop
3. IMAGE/ STYLE
• Their image/ style: The band take on a very indie image but at the same time have a very political/ social standpoint.
For example, Matty Healy (lead singer) often wears makeup, this is because he simply wants to, he is making a
statement that gender roles don’t exist. They originally used very dark colours and had more of an indie sound, they
then decided to contrast this by having a running theme of pink and neon, rather than the black and white image
they originally owned. This was the same time that the genre of music that they play, slightly changed to a sound
with more pop influences.
4. RECORD LABEL AND GETTING SIGNED
What record label they are signed to: Dirty Hit Records.
How they got signed: They struggled to get signed for seven years, this was
because they were thought to not be radio friendly enough so their manager
created their his own record label made especially for The 1975.
What they did before they got signed: Before they got signed they made as much
music as they could with the support of their manager Jamie Osborne.
5. TARGET AUDIENCE AND GAINING AWARDS
Who their target audience is: They have always said that they don’t have a specific
target audience whoever wants to listen to them should feel free. Having seen them
live, I would say their target audience is teenage girls.
How they gained awards: Many of their awards have come in 2016 and 2017, this
was when they first gained popularity, becoming a lot more well- known. For
example, in 2017, they won best British Band at the Brit Awards.
