1. Evaluation 2: How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. Comparing Magazines
My magazine has a similar
target audience to
magazines such as Mixmag
with similar content,
focusing on the music and
the events around the
music, such as festivals
including Creamfields and
Ibiza.
The Mixmag cover shown on
the right shows that you do
not have to use direct
address for a front cover all
of the time.
3. Representation Of Males
I have represented males by using male models in my magazine.
This may attract female readers but a lot of readers reading
magazines in this genre are male.
A case study of Mixmag which I will link below this Slideshare
states that the gender distribution of Mixmag’s readers are
72% male and 28% female. I have used this audience profiling
to decide who my product is likely to be addressing and how
to address them.
4. Formal / Casual Divide
The pictures I have used show the formal / casual divide. I have
done this to show that in adult life all people have two
different states of mind, a formal and casual. Music producers
tend to be in the middle a lot of the time and the clothing
shows that they could use the same clothes during work and
on set and be able to fit in with the genre.
Making music is their hobby and their career, but it is also their
business, and that is what I am trying to show.
5. Representation of Young Adults
I have represented Young Adults in my magazine by
using models of a similar age range to my target
audience. Some of my photos include direct address,
which allows the magazine to relate with the
audience. Young adults are more likely to buy a
magazine if the articles are about their age range. My
direct address shot is a low shot which makes the
duo seem superior.
