How did you represent social
         groups?
In my media product I have tried to represent a young female audience
that are interested in music as well as the stereotypical feminine interests
such as makeup, hair and fashion. Many magazines target the young
female social group with magazines about fashion, makeup, and
celebrities. However, I wanted to create a magazine that would represent
this social group with the addition of music as I found during my
institutional research that there weren’t many magazines that did this.
          Fashion magazine Music magazine

                                          My magazine
I have done this by using a range of methods and techniques in my magazine such
as using a colour scheme of white, black, and purple to sway the magazine to the
more feminine side of the music industry as purple is one of few colours associated
                             with women and glamour.
I also only used young female models for the images in my magazine to represent
the young girly social group that I targeted with this magazine. The models are also
well groomed and well dressed in their own makeup, hair, and clothes to represent
the social group of young females interested in fashion and makeup, but also show
that my magazine encourages personal style and wearing what you want. My models
were all part of the social group I was representing, as they were interested in
fashion, makeup, and music so I thought they were appropriate to use in my
magazines.
Many magazines these days construct images with
female artists looking dominant and powerful to challenge
traditional ideologies of women as music artists and
represent a social group of strong and talented females in
the music industry. I used this method by making my front
cover model stand up straight with her chin tilted slightly
up and looking to the right. This gave her the powerful
and dominant music artist look which represented many
girls within the social group i have been trying to
represent throughout this magazine.
I also used this method on my double page spread to represent dominant
and powerful women by making my three female models stand in a strong
and dominant stance facing outwards to create balance and equality
throughout the article. The models all wore feminine clothes that were
flattering to the female figure which represented the typical young girl
social group because they usually like nice clothes that are flattering and
attractive.
Another way I represented this
  social group was by constructing
 sell lines which mentioned various
music artists along with sell lines
about body confidence which many
young females would be interested
in, to kind of merge the two sorts of
 magazines into one and displaying
the sort of interests a reader in this
  social group would have. Artists
such as Lana Del Rey, Beyonce,
  Ellie Goulding, Amy Winehouse
are all mentioned on the cover
magazine because I feel that these
female music artists represent the When possible, i also used a calligraphic
same social group I am trying to font because i thought that this would
represent. These artists are iconic represent the social group i have chosen
role models to my target audience as many girls in this group write like this
and represent strong women who and are attracted to "pretty" things. In this
have worked hard for their fame case, the font would be considered "pretty"
and status along with staying the and "girly" and would furthermore
hard-working, humble, and kind represent this young female audience.
  women they have always been.
