Process And Reflection
Its important to understand that as a resultant of my research, I had identified that editing, reflection of the music,
and the quality of the footage in a music video is the most recognized and endeavored aspects to fulfill in the
expectations from my audience; therefore a camera quality test, against the different options I have with my Huawei
Mate 20 Pro phone, as well as in the use of a Canon 100D DLSR camera, would be an sufficient and effective process
in comparison between the two sources and their quality in capturing a moving image.
Process – With my phone, it was very simplistic and straight forward when wanting to either change the resolution
or take a picture, through a drop down selection in two clicks (for the resolution) and a single tap for capturing the
scenario; in regards to options of quality in the image there were a few to choose from, with 720p at 30fps or 60fps,
1080p at 30fps or 60fps, and 4K at 30fps (with fps meaning frames per second at which represents the ‘smoothness’
of the video). Yet when considering the more professional and complex DSLR camera, this was clearly justified when
using it, as there wasn’t anything obvious to represent a process in changing settings, meaning I had to use the
standard visuals that had been pre-applied (even though this was very much so possible, just hopeless in myself
trying).
Reflection – After watching the footage repeatedly, it’s understandable that both have strengths and weaknesses.
With the phone camera, it is easily manageable and functional to use, as its very portable, simplistic in its use, and
good quality when you abide to using it correctly, but there is some disadvantages; as you have to hold it via your
hands, this causes some fluctuation in stabilization and smoothness of the video (especially when moving), as well as
with the 4K option, that is clearly the best quality option, this both takes up a lot of storage with its files being
massive, whilst also generally making the scenario a darker environment, as seen in the comparison video. This is
also present in the DSLR camera, with it holding a wide range of settings to change and perfect the video
style/quality, along with having a compatible neck swatch, offering a source of stabilization, which are all interactive
benefits/strengths; whereas with weaknesses, its clear that the setting alteration function is complex and time
consuming, with a numerous amount of buttons and selection drop downs, whilst also reducing its portability
function, with its size, weight, and most significantly the tripod if requiring a steady cinematic shot.
Influence On Work
Influence - When acknowledging its influence on my work, this is a significant aspect to consider, primarily because
it’s the first aspect a lot of audiences will consider, but similarly this will shape and convey the whole music video in
regards to quality and professionalism.
In my results, its evident that the two major options had consisted of either the 4K 30fps phone resolution, or the
Canon DSLR EOS 100D camera. It’s clear that with the two choices there are strengths and weaknesses for both, as
previously mentioned, and in consideration of that and the results in my comparison video experiment, I will be
using my phone camera, at a 4K resolution with 30 frames per second, to shoot my music video. It was important for
me that whatever device I'm using was easily portable and manageable to use, with consideration to locations and
time management in the project, and when further analyzing their comparison, it was clear the phone was
substantial better; with its lightweight, simplistic and functional use when wanting to capture a recording, this was
efficient in its process, and most importantly, I had identified a distinctive greater video quality in this device,
therefore justifying its use in the project, and creating a positive representation towards my peers in its aesthetics
and sharp, color accurate, attractive reflection on the scenario I'm capturing – especially when regarding the general
darker tones created in this resolution, this was in fact beneficial when wanting to create threatening connotations.

Process
Its important to understand that as a resultant of my research, I had identified that editing, reflection of the music,
and the quality of the footage in a music video is the most recognized and endeavored aspects to fulfill in the
expectations from my audience; therefore I will preform an experiment and test on the production to reveal text
behind a moving object or person as an editing implementation I will most likely use, dependent on the process,
reflection and time management.
Process – Its important to recognize that before endeavoring into editing it across the desired software, the footage
you are shooting must have either an object or person move across the screen in any direction; this is because
whatever thing that passes the screen will reveal, or make disappear the text you embedding onto your illustration
as you can preview in the videos created. Once that is accomplished in your singular or multiple shots, you will move
across to your software (in my case it was DaVinci Resolve) and place the capture in your timeline; from here you can
either leave it as it is, or trim the duration to suit your needs in your video. The next process was to go into the fusion
tab, drag the ‘Text+’ onto your fusion line, between ‘MediaIn1’ and ‘MediaOut1’, and then in the tab beside you can
type the intended information/title with some additional color or size differentiation if you would like; in my case,
this was only a test, so I had followed a simple color and size change, but its also optional to make your text much
more detailed, such as with an 3D effect with some lighting control (that you could construct in photoshop), and
then place this on the fusion line if you intend on producing something that’s much more detailed and realistic to the
scenario. Upon completing this you then will drag across the ‘Polygon’ tool onto your text, draw a 4 sided rectangle
around your text, and then move this shape to the side of what information would be inside of it, making it evidently
disappear; then you shall use the arrow keys to move whatever amount of frames forward you need until just before
wherever your text is placed, then by simply moving the corners of your polygon shape you will mask the object as
you move forwards in each frame to slowly reveal the text as this is already key framed – this being called the
process of moving something for each individual frame manually. Continuing this process until all your text is
revealed will sometimes take a long time, such as with the outline of your passing object being complex and the total
amount of frames consisting of a lot, but this will construct a very aesthetically pleasing text reveal in the end.
Reflection And Influence On Work
Reflection – Upon constructing and finishing this editing implementation, its clear that when observing this
technique it holds an aesthetically pleasing design and attention to the slow or quick reveal of text behind an
average everyday object, this makes it more the less enticing and reflective of a professionalism in myself and my
audience; but this also sustains an efficient method when wanting to emphasize or simply include a source of titles
or information, as this both uses pre-existing footage, meaning not too much of an extent in gathering new
recordings are required, whilst showing more of a sense of attributes and skill involvement. Whereas there are also
some weaknesses present, such as with primarily the time allowance upon creation extending to a possible 1 hour
and 30 mins maximum, dependent upon the amount of frames in shot and outline depth on object/person, which
only impacts future constructive elements in the project and time management/organizational attributes in this
assignment.
Influence – Its doubtless that this will be implemented within my product, and will be emphasized during the
beginning where I shall mention the video title and who had created it (being myself) in some of the opening
sequences - as this will be one of the most visually striking and engaging points in the whole video, for the beginning
is what can represent and reflect upcoming expectations in my audience. Additionally, when recognizing its effect
upon both the music video, audience and production, this justifies its use as it can both preserve my current time
management, by stopping myself in gather extra footage or making the music video more prolonged with title
screens, but also helps set the style of a film with such information being shown, to further engage and create an
understanding in my peers.

Process
Process – Before going into depth upon the details and process of editing the technique, an important aspect that
can shape the whole techniques time management and success is through the original clip that’s being used; this has
to consist of either physically moving towards or away from an object that will be the focal point, its also justified to
recognize that to improve the process having a higher frame rate and predominant mise-en-scen is supportive to this
effect being emphasized. When having gathered this source you can then forward it by embedding this to whatever
software your going to use, which in my case is DaVinci Resolve 16, and then moving over to the fusion tab located
across the bottom half selection options. Here you will now insert a ‘time speed’ and then ‘transform’ tab between
what should be ‘MediaIn1’ and ‘MediaIn2’, these are what you can then change to either reverse your clip’s speed
upon choosing whether you want it to zoom in or out for the effect (time speed tab), and then to actually create
‘mind boggling atmospherically’ effect you use the transform node. As partially defined, the time speed tab is there
to reverse the clip if required, giving limited use but something that is sufficient and necessary in some cases; and
this can be used by simply making the speed, located at the top right-hand corner, from what should be ‘1.0’ to ‘-1.0’,
and this should be altered early on in the process, preferably one of the first things to do. Whereas there is also the
transform tab, this will give you the opportunity to construct this effect and so is essential to include, which can be
shown in the time lapse afterwards if your still unsure; once implemented on the fusion line, you will start the
keyframe by selecting the diamonds beside ‘center’ and ‘side’ in the inspector column but don’t change any of the
readings, ensure you are at the beginning of your footage though, for next you will then move you’re your clip to the
end frame in the preview box, select the keyframes for ‘center’ and ‘size’ if not already, and now change your size to
zoom in or out dependent on your choice early on, and also the center.
Reflection And Influence On Work
Reflection – Its honorable to mention that my experiment on this editing technique was either produced incorrectly
when supposedly following the steps to its construction, or was wrongly done in the footage when capturing the
scenario; but apposed to what I intended on producing, my first attempt in this was poorly executed. Its similarly
important to acknowledge that this could be down to one of the various weaknesses in its course of action, as such
with the complexity in its processes during editing, for technical steps that are required are easily confused and
mistaken, or the footage taken isn’t accurate enough/wrongly captured to be used in its construction, influencing the
whole process in creating the parallax effect. Otherwise, if it is created correctly to the process, it can be produced
quickly, as such of taking roughly 8 minuets, which gives an allowance to focus on future aspects whilst improving
the overall time management in my project, whereas it also fulfills to reflect an constant use/knowledge and
different skills/attributes in myself and my work, which following up also consequently makes it more engaging,
aesthetically pleasing, and understanding of possibly current situations and meanings that are emphasized without
offering a clear judgement in the format of an image.
Influence – It was mentioned that it could be used to convey hidden meanings of situations that are reflective in the
visuals (during the reflection), and when recognizing that there are key elements I intend to use within my work that
could be emphasized in this manner, I will therefore attempt to use and convey the effect at least once during my
music video I'm creating. Concluded within my narrative will be a sequence of unfortunate events in the life of my
main character, and during these scenes I want emphasize the realization amongst the main individual in non-verbal
codes given, yet this can be challenging with dress codes of a mask concealing his identity so this effect can also be
reflective of these emotions he will portray. Even though I've mentioned its beneficial factors, its important to avoid
some of the weaknesses if I'm to include this feature, especially factors including time consumption, which could
influence the rest of my production phase with the quality in my video and other sources I intend on producing;
therefore, if I have used a prolonged amount of time to try and perfect this scenario, I believe I should move onwards
and use a much simpler alternative to avoid such circumstances endeavoring my main and other products
expectations.

Whip Transition Experiment
Whip Transition Experiment
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4DPLcsuB-8&feature=youtu.be
This is the link to access the YouTube video based on the title:
Process – Once again, we must begin by acknowledging that all the clips must have a focal point, such as with a
person or place or object, and most significantly they must all start and then finish with the whip camera movement,
this has to be in the same direction as the previous clips movement was headed, meaning when you put them
together you will have a much smoother and flowing direction in the transition being either up, down, left, right, or
diagonally; its also important to consider that if you carry across a consistent theme, such as with my video it was the
garden, then it will be much more suiting and the clips will be more supportive of each other, additionally there will
also be similar color schemes, such as with blue (sky) and green (vegetation), which makes the process easier when
requiring a similar trend in color to transition each clip, for example a shot may finish with looking into the sky at a
camera movement of left, therefore the next clip must start by looking into the sky and be moving left. Now having
gathered the footage, and having most likely placed them in your timeline of order, you will now need to ensure they
are trimmed down to the exact point of which the transition is most best with color schemes and movement across
both; don’t worry if they start or finish a different speeds, because we will now use a technique called ‘speed
ramping’ to alter the clips a make sure they are both consistent, it is also necessary here that you make the whip
parts when transitioning at a higher speed (400% is recommended) whilst also possibly making the focal scenes in
slow motion (75% - 50% is recommended) to emphasize that progression.
Reflection – Its without of doubt that I had found this experiment easier than anticipated, as the experiment I had
produced was to a good standard with an about 8 minuet editing time approximation for my first ever attempt, this
only excites myself for what I could produced in the future of my work, as I believe there are some aspects for
improvements in recognition of the its quality; this follows up as I had also identified a range of strengths and
weaknesses despite the good results. This process conforms sufficiently to a range of seamless transitions that are
present in a lot of different sources, reflecting a sense of professionalism and high expectations it holds towards my
peers, and if not most importantly, it is fairly easy to produce and manage, therefore time management is easily
followed and efficiently used to the best of its ability. However, the task of getting the right footage with camera
movements can be easily disrupted, with a sudden change in the environment (such as with weather), or mistaken,
Process And Reflection
meaning that a prolonged amount of time is spent perfecting this method, which impacts further events and disrupts
the quality control on my final product, which can also create a sense of ‘cheesiness’ as it is poorly constructed; this
is similarly present if you make the speed ramping technique, where you see the whip transition, too fast, meaning it
isn’t easy to follow whilst also possibly provoking epilepsy in some of my viewers, or too slow, meaning you can see
the cut which represents something that is poorly managed and created.
Influence – For its ease of use, if followed correctly, along with other aspects upon time management keeping to an
upright and its aesthetically pleasing, almost seamless transition between sources means I will inevitably use this
within my work. My narrative is all about the characters downfall in life, but its important to consider that both these
narratives will need to be followed in a straightforward manner to make it easier and more understanding in my
audience, when they will fluctuate regularly between themselves, therefore by having implemented this it can
support their judgements and overall awareness of what is being portrayed, challenging the complex structure I will
evoke; furthermore, there will also be key moments of action where the inclusion of this could really beneficial when
wanting to strive the story forwards whilst emphasizing the tense situations, such as possibly reflecting the actions
and point of view from my character or others. With this technique, its clear that I can produce this fairly easily, as
for my first attempt had ended in a complete success, but there will always be the possibility that I could mess up the
recordings; if this occurs then I could use a wasted amount of time that could otherwise be used sufficiently to
impact other important features, or if I had still forwarded it use, but in a poor reflection, this could represent
multiple expectations and reflections of myself towards my peers, therefore its imperative to avoid these possibilities
at all costs during its use.

Process And Reflection
Process – With the footage, there is two key elements to include, an object in some way must go fully across the
screen, as such with either the camera moving behind something, or the object physically moving across it,
otherwise it would be impossible to construct this effect as there is nothing the key frame; additionally, its important
to consider that whatever the movement of the camera is when the shot is finished, it is advised that you follow that
flow, such as with if your moving left in the first shot, then you should start your next shot in a similar process. When
starting the editing process, you now need to trim and arrange both clips specifically, this can be done by cutting the
first clip, which should have the object passing in front, up until the thing has wiped across the whole screen and is
currently not visible – this should then be placed in video layer 2 at the start; now moving to the second clip, you will
need to place this footage on video layer 1 at the exact point that is 1 frame behind seeing the object first enter the
shot, this is essential or else it will be clear and defined that there is a slight jump or glitch in the recording, which is
unnecessary when wanting to reflect professionalism to your peers. Now adding an alpha output by right clicking in
the color tab, and then attaching the two blue lines, you then select the pen tool, go to the beginning frame where
you visualize the first slim section that you want to remove, and then create an outline (such as a rectangle) and you
will see the removal of the clip, after having selected the diamond (keyframe button) that states ‘corrector 1’; by
doing the process for each frame, until you don’t see the object passing anymore, you will have finished this effect.
Reflection – Upon constructing this effect, it was much more difficult than I had expected it to be, for some of the
details were very specific, such as with the key framing aspects, but it had outcome to an overall 15 minuet process
which was reasonable with the extent of steps needed to create it, never minding the fact that it will take up an
approximate 2 – 5 seconds of my music video – which isn’t a sufficient amount and use of my time, but is effective in
reflecting some skills/attributes of myself to my peers. Additionally, its important to analyze that there are strengths
and weaknesses, with some having already been mentioned, which impacts a numerous amount of factors
throughout its process and use of creation. With strengths, its clear that this is another technique and skill that I can
reflect in my work, which further implies a great deal of knowledge and effort to convey high expectations and
positive connotations in my audience of myself and my video; this also, if its used correctly, can be a very
Reflection (Continued) And Influence
seamless transition between two parts of footage, as it can reduce time consumption in comparison to other
implementations, whilst strongly conforming to professionalism as it withholds a general aesthetically pleasing
nature when perceiving its use, especially when being used to drive the narrative or resemble movement in
whatever is being conveyed. Yet when acknowledging weaknesses, it doubtless that this process can be easily
misjudged/followed incorrectly for the different details and features required in its construction, which in worst case
scenarios could impact the time management strategies and other processes in the production phase; following
from time, this is also another key element to consider, as its stated to consume about 15 minuets, which isn’t
entirely a problem, but in the case of producing a mistake it would be mean a whole restart on its development – it
would also be important to recognize that if poorly produced, such as with my first attempt in the video link, this
makes an almost cheesy/cringy portrayal in its use.
Influence – I have always intended on creating a product to a professional high end level, with everything including
the editing to shots and to also the quality, to be at the best of my ability, and with the mask transition, I strongly
believe that this will contribute heavily when wanting to use a wide range of processes/techniques to reflect my
video very positively, therefore it will be used to an extent. With having identified the strengths in my reflection, and
most specifically its emphasize on a flow of a story, these all justify why it would be effective to incorporate in my
work, as my narrative fluctuates regular, hence its use can support an understanding more sufficiently; but with
acknowledgement to its disadvantages, these must be avoided wherever possible, as they could resultantly effect
the whole product if it resembles something that is cheesy whilst impacting the time allowance on creation, with
both being incredibly essential aspects to challenge and manage.

Colour Grading Comparisons - Software
Process And Reflection
Process – When wanting to observe the different color grading options, it was clear that there were two different
devices and processes in getting these adaptations to work, and these had been through both my phone,
withholding about 15 pre-constructed color alterations, whereas there is also the software I'm using (DaVinci
Resolve 16), which has the option to either create your own interpretation or use a pre-made one as with similar
styles to on my phone. With initially targeting my phone device, this was fairly simplistic and easily understood for by
going onto your standard video camera role there is a symbol present, that is located across the top (when portrait)
and looks like a retro video reel, and upon being selected a drop down of various amounts of options appear and can
be used by a single tap to change the coloring of your image being perceived; whereas with using a software, there is
a numerous amount of different options and processes when wanting the change certain aspects, such as with the
brightness, contrasts, significant colors, or another feature you can think about, these all require a lot of time,
knowledge and skill to envelope something at a good standard.
Reflection – Its clear that my phone was created in recognition of ease of use for all audiences, not only for its
simple and sufficient design as mentioned, but the process in changing the characteristics is very quick which allows
time for other purposes you intend on doing; but as beneficial features are present there will also be weaknesses
and flaws following, such as with the main and only one consisting of not giving the option to either slightly tweak,
and manipulate the colors to your own personal format, meaning you only have a limited amount of options when
using this equipment, and therefore other sources are required to make your work much more responsive and
reflective of what you intend on evoking. This is juxtaposed against the consideration of using a software, where in
the case of wanting certain or specific details to be emphasized, using an editing software is extremely beneficial for
making these key points of interests to a high amount of detail, whereas with some people time is of the essence,
therefore already made profiles of color grading are optional if you would prefer; all seems good with using an
editing software, but its clear that the ratio between owning a pc/laptop to phones is significantly different, meaning
this might not be an option for many people, whilst also this can sustain a lot of time consumption for its users, as
some brief knowledge, along with time, unless using a pre-made style, is essential.
Influence
Influence – When capturing a scene with the standard camera settings, it can look washed out some lighting
scenarios, and can represent opposite intentions of a video if this si conveyed, such as with a dark horror genre
bright vibrant colors may be present, it just doesn’t work, therefore the implementation and use of this technique is
imperative to myself in producing my work to the best of its ability, whilst sustaining an understanding environment
and consistent aesthetic. There are many reasons why I will justify its use, with two having already been mentioned,
but this additionally is supported as it can both create key points of interests, when making something more obvious
or emphasized in a change of contrast, brightness or color gain increase to create connotations and interpretations
upon objects, people, or places; whilst also indicating a sense of professionalism as its most clear an effort into the
overall aesthetic is acknowledged, which may further engage viewers upon recognition of this feature. Whereas part
of its use also comes vulnerabilities in the project, for both messing up the process or having an irregular style
provokes challenges, and resultantly will impact future expectations/organizational traits of myself, such as with time
management in the assignment and a poor/confusing judgement on key aspects – with these consisting of character
and places portrayals, as well as with narrative flow and audience engagement.

  • 4. Process And Reflection Its important to understand that as a resultant of my research, I had identified that editing, reflection of the music, and the quality of the footage in a music video is the most recognized and endeavored aspects to fulfill in the expectations from my audience; therefore a camera quality test, against the different options I have with my Huawei Mate 20 Pro phone, as well as in the use of a Canon 100D DLSR camera, would be an sufficient and effective process in comparison between the two sources and their quality in capturing a moving image. Process – With my phone, it was very simplistic and straight forward when wanting to either change the resolution or take a picture, through a drop down selection in two clicks (for the resolution) and a single tap for capturing the scenario; in regards to options of quality in the image there were a few to choose from, with 720p at 30fps or 60fps, 1080p at 30fps or 60fps, and 4K at 30fps (with fps meaning frames per second at which represents the ‘smoothness’ of the video). Yet when considering the more professional and complex DSLR camera, this was clearly justified when using it, as there wasn’t anything obvious to represent a process in changing settings, meaning I had to use the standard visuals that had been pre-applied (even though this was very much so possible, just hopeless in myself trying). Reflection – After watching the footage repeatedly, it’s understandable that both have strengths and weaknesses. With the phone camera, it is easily manageable and functional to use, as its very portable, simplistic in its use, and good quality when you abide to using it correctly, but there is some disadvantages; as you have to hold it via your hands, this causes some fluctuation in stabilization and smoothness of the video (especially when moving), as well as with the 4K option, that is clearly the best quality option, this both takes up a lot of storage with its files being massive, whilst also generally making the scenario a darker environment, as seen in the comparison video. This is also present in the DSLR camera, with it holding a wide range of settings to change and perfect the video style/quality, along with having a compatible neck swatch, offering a source of stabilization, which are all interactive benefits/strengths; whereas with weaknesses, its clear that the setting alteration function is complex and time consuming, with a numerous amount of buttons and selection drop downs, whilst also reducing its portability function, with its size, weight, and most significantly the tripod if requiring a steady cinematic shot.
  • 5. Influence On Work Influence - When acknowledging its influence on my work, this is a significant aspect to consider, primarily because it’s the first aspect a lot of audiences will consider, but similarly this will shape and convey the whole music video in regards to quality and professionalism. In my results, its evident that the two major options had consisted of either the 4K 30fps phone resolution, or the Canon DSLR EOS 100D camera. It’s clear that with the two choices there are strengths and weaknesses for both, as previously mentioned, and in consideration of that and the results in my comparison video experiment, I will be using my phone camera, at a 4K resolution with 30 frames per second, to shoot my music video. It was important for me that whatever device I'm using was easily portable and manageable to use, with consideration to locations and time management in the project, and when further analyzing their comparison, it was clear the phone was substantial better; with its lightweight, simplistic and functional use when wanting to capture a recording, this was efficient in its process, and most importantly, I had identified a distinctive greater video quality in this device, therefore justifying its use in the project, and creating a positive representation towards my peers in its aesthetics and sharp, color accurate, attractive reflection on the scenario I'm capturing – especially when regarding the general darker tones created in this resolution, this was in fact beneficial when wanting to create threatening connotations.

  • 11. Process Its important to understand that as a resultant of my research, I had identified that editing, reflection of the music, and the quality of the footage in a music video is the most recognized and endeavored aspects to fulfill in the expectations from my audience; therefore I will preform an experiment and test on the production to reveal text behind a moving object or person as an editing implementation I will most likely use, dependent on the process, reflection and time management. Process – Its important to recognize that before endeavoring into editing it across the desired software, the footage you are shooting must have either an object or person move across the screen in any direction; this is because whatever thing that passes the screen will reveal, or make disappear the text you embedding onto your illustration as you can preview in the videos created. Once that is accomplished in your singular or multiple shots, you will move across to your software (in my case it was DaVinci Resolve) and place the capture in your timeline; from here you can either leave it as it is, or trim the duration to suit your needs in your video. The next process was to go into the fusion tab, drag the ‘Text+’ onto your fusion line, between ‘MediaIn1’ and ‘MediaOut1’, and then in the tab beside you can type the intended information/title with some additional color or size differentiation if you would like; in my case, this was only a test, so I had followed a simple color and size change, but its also optional to make your text much more detailed, such as with an 3D effect with some lighting control (that you could construct in photoshop), and then place this on the fusion line if you intend on producing something that’s much more detailed and realistic to the scenario. Upon completing this you then will drag across the ‘Polygon’ tool onto your text, draw a 4 sided rectangle around your text, and then move this shape to the side of what information would be inside of it, making it evidently disappear; then you shall use the arrow keys to move whatever amount of frames forward you need until just before wherever your text is placed, then by simply moving the corners of your polygon shape you will mask the object as you move forwards in each frame to slowly reveal the text as this is already key framed – this being called the process of moving something for each individual frame manually. Continuing this process until all your text is revealed will sometimes take a long time, such as with the outline of your passing object being complex and the total amount of frames consisting of a lot, but this will construct a very aesthetically pleasing text reveal in the end.
  • 12. Reflection And Influence On Work Reflection – Upon constructing and finishing this editing implementation, its clear that when observing this technique it holds an aesthetically pleasing design and attention to the slow or quick reveal of text behind an average everyday object, this makes it more the less enticing and reflective of a professionalism in myself and my audience; but this also sustains an efficient method when wanting to emphasize or simply include a source of titles or information, as this both uses pre-existing footage, meaning not too much of an extent in gathering new recordings are required, whilst showing more of a sense of attributes and skill involvement. Whereas there are also some weaknesses present, such as with primarily the time allowance upon creation extending to a possible 1 hour and 30 mins maximum, dependent upon the amount of frames in shot and outline depth on object/person, which only impacts future constructive elements in the project and time management/organizational attributes in this assignment. Influence – Its doubtless that this will be implemented within my product, and will be emphasized during the beginning where I shall mention the video title and who had created it (being myself) in some of the opening sequences - as this will be one of the most visually striking and engaging points in the whole video, for the beginning is what can represent and reflect upcoming expectations in my audience. Additionally, when recognizing its effect upon both the music video, audience and production, this justifies its use as it can both preserve my current time management, by stopping myself in gather extra footage or making the music video more prolonged with title screens, but also helps set the style of a film with such information being shown, to further engage and create an understanding in my peers.

  • 16. Process Process – Before going into depth upon the details and process of editing the technique, an important aspect that can shape the whole techniques time management and success is through the original clip that’s being used; this has to consist of either physically moving towards or away from an object that will be the focal point, its also justified to recognize that to improve the process having a higher frame rate and predominant mise-en-scen is supportive to this effect being emphasized. When having gathered this source you can then forward it by embedding this to whatever software your going to use, which in my case is DaVinci Resolve 16, and then moving over to the fusion tab located across the bottom half selection options. Here you will now insert a ‘time speed’ and then ‘transform’ tab between what should be ‘MediaIn1’ and ‘MediaIn2’, these are what you can then change to either reverse your clip’s speed upon choosing whether you want it to zoom in or out for the effect (time speed tab), and then to actually create ‘mind boggling atmospherically’ effect you use the transform node. As partially defined, the time speed tab is there to reverse the clip if required, giving limited use but something that is sufficient and necessary in some cases; and this can be used by simply making the speed, located at the top right-hand corner, from what should be ‘1.0’ to ‘-1.0’, and this should be altered early on in the process, preferably one of the first things to do. Whereas there is also the transform tab, this will give you the opportunity to construct this effect and so is essential to include, which can be shown in the time lapse afterwards if your still unsure; once implemented on the fusion line, you will start the keyframe by selecting the diamonds beside ‘center’ and ‘side’ in the inspector column but don’t change any of the readings, ensure you are at the beginning of your footage though, for next you will then move you’re your clip to the end frame in the preview box, select the keyframes for ‘center’ and ‘size’ if not already, and now change your size to zoom in or out dependent on your choice early on, and also the center.
  • 17. Reflection And Influence On Work Reflection – Its honorable to mention that my experiment on this editing technique was either produced incorrectly when supposedly following the steps to its construction, or was wrongly done in the footage when capturing the scenario; but apposed to what I intended on producing, my first attempt in this was poorly executed. Its similarly important to acknowledge that this could be down to one of the various weaknesses in its course of action, as such with the complexity in its processes during editing, for technical steps that are required are easily confused and mistaken, or the footage taken isn’t accurate enough/wrongly captured to be used in its construction, influencing the whole process in creating the parallax effect. Otherwise, if it is created correctly to the process, it can be produced quickly, as such of taking roughly 8 minuets, which gives an allowance to focus on future aspects whilst improving the overall time management in my project, whereas it also fulfills to reflect an constant use/knowledge and different skills/attributes in myself and my work, which following up also consequently makes it more engaging, aesthetically pleasing, and understanding of possibly current situations and meanings that are emphasized without offering a clear judgement in the format of an image. Influence – It was mentioned that it could be used to convey hidden meanings of situations that are reflective in the visuals (during the reflection), and when recognizing that there are key elements I intend to use within my work that could be emphasized in this manner, I will therefore attempt to use and convey the effect at least once during my music video I'm creating. Concluded within my narrative will be a sequence of unfortunate events in the life of my main character, and during these scenes I want emphasize the realization amongst the main individual in non-verbal codes given, yet this can be challenging with dress codes of a mask concealing his identity so this effect can also be reflective of these emotions he will portray. Even though I've mentioned its beneficial factors, its important to avoid some of the weaknesses if I'm to include this feature, especially factors including time consumption, which could influence the rest of my production phase with the quality in my video and other sources I intend on producing; therefore, if I have used a prolonged amount of time to try and perfect this scenario, I believe I should move onwards and use a much simpler alternative to avoid such circumstances endeavoring my main and other products expectations.

  • 20. Whip Transition Experiment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4DPLcsuB-8&feature=youtu.be This is the link to access the YouTube video based on the title:
  • 21. Process – Once again, we must begin by acknowledging that all the clips must have a focal point, such as with a person or place or object, and most significantly they must all start and then finish with the whip camera movement, this has to be in the same direction as the previous clips movement was headed, meaning when you put them together you will have a much smoother and flowing direction in the transition being either up, down, left, right, or diagonally; its also important to consider that if you carry across a consistent theme, such as with my video it was the garden, then it will be much more suiting and the clips will be more supportive of each other, additionally there will also be similar color schemes, such as with blue (sky) and green (vegetation), which makes the process easier when requiring a similar trend in color to transition each clip, for example a shot may finish with looking into the sky at a camera movement of left, therefore the next clip must start by looking into the sky and be moving left. Now having gathered the footage, and having most likely placed them in your timeline of order, you will now need to ensure they are trimmed down to the exact point of which the transition is most best with color schemes and movement across both; don’t worry if they start or finish a different speeds, because we will now use a technique called ‘speed ramping’ to alter the clips a make sure they are both consistent, it is also necessary here that you make the whip parts when transitioning at a higher speed (400% is recommended) whilst also possibly making the focal scenes in slow motion (75% - 50% is recommended) to emphasize that progression. Reflection – Its without of doubt that I had found this experiment easier than anticipated, as the experiment I had produced was to a good standard with an about 8 minuet editing time approximation for my first ever attempt, this only excites myself for what I could produced in the future of my work, as I believe there are some aspects for improvements in recognition of the its quality; this follows up as I had also identified a range of strengths and weaknesses despite the good results. This process conforms sufficiently to a range of seamless transitions that are present in a lot of different sources, reflecting a sense of professionalism and high expectations it holds towards my peers, and if not most importantly, it is fairly easy to produce and manage, therefore time management is easily followed and efficiently used to the best of its ability. However, the task of getting the right footage with camera movements can be easily disrupted, with a sudden change in the environment (such as with weather), or mistaken, Process And Reflection
  • 22. meaning that a prolonged amount of time is spent perfecting this method, which impacts further events and disrupts the quality control on my final product, which can also create a sense of ‘cheesiness’ as it is poorly constructed; this is similarly present if you make the speed ramping technique, where you see the whip transition, too fast, meaning it isn’t easy to follow whilst also possibly provoking epilepsy in some of my viewers, or too slow, meaning you can see the cut which represents something that is poorly managed and created. Influence – For its ease of use, if followed correctly, along with other aspects upon time management keeping to an upright and its aesthetically pleasing, almost seamless transition between sources means I will inevitably use this within my work. My narrative is all about the characters downfall in life, but its important to consider that both these narratives will need to be followed in a straightforward manner to make it easier and more understanding in my audience, when they will fluctuate regularly between themselves, therefore by having implemented this it can support their judgements and overall awareness of what is being portrayed, challenging the complex structure I will evoke; furthermore, there will also be key moments of action where the inclusion of this could really beneficial when wanting to strive the story forwards whilst emphasizing the tense situations, such as possibly reflecting the actions and point of view from my character or others. With this technique, its clear that I can produce this fairly easily, as for my first attempt had ended in a complete success, but there will always be the possibility that I could mess up the recordings; if this occurs then I could use a wasted amount of time that could otherwise be used sufficiently to impact other important features, or if I had still forwarded it use, but in a poor reflection, this could represent multiple expectations and reflections of myself towards my peers, therefore its imperative to avoid these possibilities at all costs during its use. Process And Reflection Process – With the footage, there is two key elements to include, an object in some way must go fully across the screen, as such with either the camera moving behind something, or the object physically moving across it, otherwise it would be impossible to construct this effect as there is nothing the key frame; additionally, its important to consider that whatever the movement of the camera is when the shot is finished, it is advised that you follow that flow, such as with if your moving left in the first shot, then you should start your next shot in a similar process. When starting the editing process, you now need to trim and arrange both clips specifically, this can be done by cutting the first clip, which should have the object passing in front, up until the thing has wiped across the whole screen and is currently not visible – this should then be placed in video layer 2 at the start; now moving to the second clip, you will need to place this footage on video layer 1 at the exact point that is 1 frame behind seeing the object first enter the shot, this is essential or else it will be clear and defined that there is a slight jump or glitch in the recording, which is unnecessary when wanting to reflect professionalism to your peers. Now adding an alpha output by right clicking in the color tab, and then attaching the two blue lines, you then select the pen tool, go to the beginning frame where you visualize the first slim section that you want to remove, and then create an outline (such as a rectangle) and you will see the removal of the clip, after having selected the diamond (keyframe button) that states ‘corrector 1’; by doing the process for each frame, until you don’t see the object passing anymore, you will have finished this effect. Reflection – Upon constructing this effect, it was much more difficult than I had expected it to be, for some of the details were very specific, such as with the key framing aspects, but it had outcome to an overall 15 minuet process which was reasonable with the extent of steps needed to create it, never minding the fact that it will take up an approximate 2 – 5 seconds of my music video – which isn’t a sufficient amount and use of my time, but is effective in reflecting some skills/attributes of myself to my peers. Additionally, its important to analyze that there are strengths and weaknesses, with some having already been mentioned, which impacts a numerous amount of factors throughout its process and use of creation. With strengths, its clear that this is another technique and skill that I can reflect in my work, which further implies a great deal of knowledge and effort to convey high expectations and positive connotations in my audience of myself and my video; this also, if its used correctly, can be a very
  • 27. Reflection (Continued) And Influence seamless transition between two parts of footage, as it can reduce time consumption in comparison to other implementations, whilst strongly conforming to professionalism as it withholds a general aesthetically pleasing nature when perceiving its use, especially when being used to drive the narrative or resemble movement in whatever is being conveyed. Yet when acknowledging weaknesses, it doubtless that this process can be easily misjudged/followed incorrectly for the different details and features required in its construction, which in worst case scenarios could impact the time management strategies and other processes in the production phase; following from time, this is also another key element to consider, as its stated to consume about 15 minuets, which isn’t entirely a problem, but in the case of producing a mistake it would be mean a whole restart on its development – it would also be important to recognize that if poorly produced, such as with my first attempt in the video link, this makes an almost cheesy/cringy portrayal in its use. Influence – I have always intended on creating a product to a professional high end level, with everything including the editing to shots and to also the quality, to be at the best of my ability, and with the mask transition, I strongly believe that this will contribute heavily when wanting to use a wide range of processes/techniques to reflect my video very positively, therefore it will be used to an extent. With having identified the strengths in my reflection, and most specifically its emphasize on a flow of a story, these all justify why it would be effective to incorporate in my work, as my narrative fluctuates regular, hence its use can support an understanding more sufficiently; but with acknowledgement to its disadvantages, these must be avoided wherever possible, as they could resultantly effect the whole product if it resembles something that is cheesy whilst impacting the time allowance on creation, with both being incredibly essential aspects to challenge and manage.

  • 31. Process And Reflection Process – When wanting to observe the different color grading options, it was clear that there were two different devices and processes in getting these adaptations to work, and these had been through both my phone, withholding about 15 pre-constructed color alterations, whereas there is also the software I'm using (DaVinci Resolve 16), which has the option to either create your own interpretation or use a pre-made one as with similar styles to on my phone. With initially targeting my phone device, this was fairly simplistic and easily understood for by going onto your standard video camera role there is a symbol present, that is located across the top (when portrait) and looks like a retro video reel, and upon being selected a drop down of various amounts of options appear and can be used by a single tap to change the coloring of your image being perceived; whereas with using a software, there is a numerous amount of different options and processes when wanting the change certain aspects, such as with the brightness, contrasts, significant colors, or another feature you can think about, these all require a lot of time, knowledge and skill to envelope something at a good standard. Reflection – Its clear that my phone was created in recognition of ease of use for all audiences, not only for its simple and sufficient design as mentioned, but the process in changing the characteristics is very quick which allows time for other purposes you intend on doing; but as beneficial features are present there will also be weaknesses and flaws following, such as with the main and only one consisting of not giving the option to either slightly tweak, and manipulate the colors to your own personal format, meaning you only have a limited amount of options when using this equipment, and therefore other sources are required to make your work much more responsive and reflective of what you intend on evoking. This is juxtaposed against the consideration of using a software, where in the case of wanting certain or specific details to be emphasized, using an editing software is extremely beneficial for making these key points of interests to a high amount of detail, whereas with some people time is of the essence, therefore already made profiles of color grading are optional if you would prefer; all seems good with using an editing software, but its clear that the ratio between owning a pc/laptop to phones is significantly different, meaning this might not be an option for many people, whilst also this can sustain a lot of time consumption for its users, as some brief knowledge, along with time, unless using a pre-made style, is essential.
  • 32. Influence Influence – When capturing a scene with the standard camera settings, it can look washed out some lighting scenarios, and can represent opposite intentions of a video if this si conveyed, such as with a dark horror genre bright vibrant colors may be present, it just doesn’t work, therefore the implementation and use of this technique is imperative to myself in producing my work to the best of its ability, whilst sustaining an understanding environment and consistent aesthetic. There are many reasons why I will justify its use, with two having already been mentioned, but this additionally is supported as it can both create key points of interests, when making something more obvious or emphasized in a change of contrast, brightness or color gain increase to create connotations and interpretations upon objects, people, or places; whilst also indicating a sense of professionalism as its most clear an effort into the overall aesthetic is acknowledged, which may further engage viewers upon recognition of this feature. Whereas part of its use also comes vulnerabilities in the project, for both messing up the process or having an irregular style provokes challenges, and resultantly will impact future expectations/organizational traits of myself, such as with time management in the assignment and a poor/confusing judgement on key aspects – with these consisting of character and places portrayals, as well as with narrative flow and audience engagement.
