The document summarizes and compares three well-known children's stories: The Three Little Pigs, The Pied Piper, and The Story of the Three Bears. For The Three Little Pigs, the summary notes it has a simple structure with main characters, a dilemma of the wolf trying to eat the pigs, and a solution. For The Pied Piper, the summary says it has a more complicated narrative where the piper controls rats and later the town's children, making it less suitable for young kids. For The Story of the Three Bears, the summary states it has a repetitive storyline where a woman tries the bears' porridge, chairs, and beds, getting in trouble when the bears return home.

Story research
1. Story Research
3 Little Pigs; I found this story to have a very simple, yet effective
structure. It has the main characters, and their task given to the
reader within the first 3 pages of the book. There is a dilemma,
which is the wolf trying to eat them, and there is a solution, which is
when the wolf fails to get into the final pig’s brick house. The book
has a good structure which I could adapt if I wanted to, as it would
be easy to change the characters, setting, and story without making
it overly complicated. It doesn’t feature a large amount of locations,
as it has simply got the inside of each of the 4 houses and then the
outside world. There are not many characters in this story either, as
it only has 5, the 3 little pigs, the wolf, and the pig’s mother. I think
this story was very good for children, as it was very popular
specifically with a young audience, similar to the age range I was
aiming my story book at, and so I think this would be a good choice.
The Pied Piper; This story has a more complicated narrative. It starts
with the dilemma, which is that the town has been infested by rats
and there’s nothing that can be done. Then the main character
arrives, and promises to fix the town’s rat problem for payment. In
doing this, he creates a villain in the form of the Mayor and the
Council. Once the rat problem is solved, he is betrayed and refused
payment, and so he takes control of the town’s children in the same
way that he controlled the rats and leads them into the forest, never
to be seen again. This ruins the general idea of the main character
also being a good character or ‘hero’. This makes the book less
suitable for young children, as there usually needs to be a good
character and a bad character, while The Pied Piper features neither.
The story itself has a few locations, such as down the 3 streets
named in the story, inside the town hall, at the river, and in the
forest at the end of the story. There is however few main characters
in comparison, but plenty of background characters. There is the
Pied Piper and the Town Mayor, but no other main characters,
though there are plenty of characters who feature in the storyline.
2. The Story of the 3 Bears; This is another popular story for children,
which features a fairly repetitive storyline. It starts with the 3 Bears,
and introduces the audience to the main theme of the story with
them all having their own sized chair or bowl etc. When the bears
leave the house, the old woman arrives who is greedy and tries all
the porridge, sits in all the chairs, and lies down in the beds. She eats
all of the baby bear’s porridge, and breaks it’s chair, before falling
asleep in it’s bed. The bears come home and discover what has
happened as they go through each bear’s porridge, chair, and bed
until they find the woman. She runs away, and is never seen again.
The storyline is fairly repetitive, but is very effective and is popular
with children. The story itself has 3 locations but could potentially
have more, such as the outside garden as the woman enters the
house or as the bears leave and arrive again. There are only 4
characters in the story, the woman and the 3 bears. It would be easy
to alter this story so it could fit a different setting, as the characters
and location and even the porridge and the bed etc. could be
changed to fit a different theme.
