Proposal
I am going to do a graphic novel where I re -create the story of Jack and the
beanstalk, a popular tale. This will be captured over 4 pages and to tell the
story with a modern twist. The pictures that will be included in the graphic
novel will be that of photographs taken by myself and edited on Photoshop to
a comic book style. The text on the pages will be very little and just to explain
what is happening in the scenes as well as to show dialogue to and from
characters involved. After detailed mind maps and brainstorming it has
become clear the main audience of these books are aimed at little children due
to colourful images, lack of words and similar tales told. Therefore this
particular graphic novel I intend to aim at an older audience of children both
genders from 10-15 years old and to those who are interested in the classic
tales but also like to read new things and enjoy a laugh. The twist will stay with
the outline of the story told but with many tales the way in which it is told
differs and this will be the same. Examples of this include the Giant having an
Afro styled haircut and also the Cow that Jack’s mum forced jack to sell for the
beans will be changed to a Dog. This twist is designed modernise the book and
intended to make children want to read the novel.
