2. One idea that I have for the music video is a
disjuncture; the video will not relate to the lyrics. In
this concept, I would use many different
performance shots as well as abstract shots of
different setting and instruments. I would use shots
such as extreme close-ups and a variety of angled
and off-centre shots to captivate the viewer and to
obscure the image in order to create a more
abstract shot. I believe this kind of a music video
would interest the viewer as it does not conform to
stereotypical indie music genre conventions.
3. A second idea that I have is to create a music
video that is entirely narrative based. The song
is the story of an individual who is jealous over
his love-interest and so the video would follow
the lyrics in displaying a visibly jealous and
enraged protagonist dealing with, and
confronting his love interest. I believe this could
be effective in drawing the viewer in and
developing an emotional connection with the
protagonist.
4. Another idea that I have for the music video is almost a
mixture of the previous two ideas: a music video that is
narrative based, however, it is interrupted with
performance shots. The video will effectively display the
same narrative as in my previous idea through less shots
and these shots will be combined with shots of the band
performing the song with the protagonist as the front man
of the band. I believe this idea is perhaps the most
effective in appealing to my target audience as it allows
the development of a narrative and an emotional
connection with the protagonist, as well as promoting the
band through various performance shots of the band itself.
5. During my research, I have watched many different
music videos of the Indie Rock genre in order to
find out about typical codes and conventions in
order to promote a brand identity to my target
audience. Bands like ‘The View’ and ‘The Cribs’
combine these elements in many music videos;
take for instance the song ‘Same Jeans’ by The
View – this song combines a narrative element with
performance shots; this video inspired me to create
a concept that contains both elements as I believe
that the outcome of both of these bands’ attempts
have been very successful.
