2. SYNERGY
• Prior to the task, we planned to use Synergy in our project as we decided that we
wanted to portray a similar theme in all three documents (music video, digipak and
magazine advert. I was fortunately able to construct research about current artists
and how they have portrayed their products.
• I was heavily inspired by Calvin Harris and his work, which enabled me to have a
good example to look at throughout the process. Although he is a DJ and his music
involves features, the albums and magazine adverts portray similar elements in
comparison to what I have produced.
3. STYLING AND IMAGERY
• Luke was able to wear the same clothes throughout the filming process. This was
heavily involved in all of my three products and we were able to give off the same
effect throughout. This therefore improved our continuity and looked as if they were
all filmed and photographed at the same time. For the digipak, I decided that I was
going to use the same picture as I did for the magazine advert. • I looked at David
Guetta’s and Jessie J’s album and digipak cover prior to the completion task, and I
therefore saw that both images were the same. I used this in my project and it made
it look more professional as if a company has created them.
4. CONTINUITY
• I decided to shoot the digipak and magazine advert outdoors because we decided
that we were going to aspire to achieve something like what Calvin Harris had
produced in his 18 months album. This is a convention of our genre, and we
therefore wanted the two ancillaries to look as professional as it can be. • I managed
to insert a lighting correction to my music video, which allowed me to suggest that
the specific film was a dream. I therefore had to insert a pink glow over to show the
relationship. I decided not to include this in the ancillaries because the performer
was speaking about losing someone in the lyrics, so I therefore made the album dark
to show that love has been lost by the performer.
5. REPRESENTATION
• In many of the videos I analysed, there would often be a dream about either a
relationship or going back to a certain place. This dream would include a relationship
and how it would be successful in the dream, however it would fail in reality. We
managed to construct this research and implement the story into our music video, with a
balance between performance and narrative shots. Examples of this include Jonas Blue
– perfect Strangers ft. JP Cooper, JP Cooper – September Song and Klingande – Losing
U ft. Daylight.
• • We managed to use this as a continuous theme throughout all three media products. In
the music video, the artist was shown as being alone after singing about losing someone,
whereas the two actors portrayed love and how it was lost/what never was. In the
magazine advert and digipak, we managed to portray this as the actor was looking away
from the camera, suggesting that someone could be missing in the shot.

TEXTS (ADVERT)
• Overall, I believe that the ancillary texts I have created are extremely successful, as they
are able to represent all that we had planned from the start and I therefore believe they
both look like professional documents, as if a professional company has completed it for a
music artist. They are simplistic and easy to understand, therefore eye catching and
relate to what my audience have given for feedback. • I believe that my target audience
would be attracted to the ancillary texts as they are very similar to what the mainstream
artists of the genre have produced. They are able to focus on the artist and allows the
audience to give multiple connotations about the genre itself. They are therefore able to
reflect similar products, of what have already been successful. This is a benefit and I can
therefore suggest that my texts are professional looking
