Used to indicate the place, person, or thing that someone or something moves toward, or the
direction of something:
 I am heading to the entrance of the building.
 The package was mailed to Mr. Kim yesterday.
Used to indicate a limit or an ending point:
 The snow was piled up to the roof.
 The stock prices rose up to 100 dollars.
We use go/come/travel to indicate a place or event:
 I am going to travel to London the next year.
 My uncle will return to Spain tomorrow.
Used to indicate a time or a period:
 I work nine to six, Monday to Friday.
 It is now 10 to five. (In other words, it is 4:50.)
AT
Used to point out specific time:
 I will meet you at 12 p.m.
 The bus will stop here at 5:45 p.m.
Used to indicate a specific place:
 There is a party at the club house.
 There were hundreds of people at the park.
 We saw a baseball game at the stadium.
Notice the use of the preposition of time at in the following standard expressions:
Expression Example
at night The stars shine at night.
at the weekend I don't usually work at the weekend.
at Christmas/Easter I stay with my family at Christmas.
at the same time We finished the test at the same time.
at present He's not home at present. Try later.
IN
Used for unspecific times during a day, month, season, year:
 She always reads newspapers in the morning.
 In the summer, we have a rainy season for three weeks.
 The new semester will start in March.
Used to indicate a location or place:
 She looked me directly in the eyes.
 I am currently staying in a hotel.
 My hometown is Los Angeles, which is in California.
Used to indicate a belief, opinion, interest, or feeling:
 I believe in the next life, I will be very happy.
 In my opinion, that car needs a new wheel.
INTO
Used to indicate “inside” or middle of a place, container, area, etc.:
 Stop running around and get into bed!
Used to show when a person or thing is changing from one form or condition to another:
 Her novels have been translated into 19 languages.
Used in the direction of something or someone:
 She was looking straight into his eyes.
EXERCISES
 The shop closes at midnight.
 Don't go into the bedroom. Oh, you're already in it?
 He went on the bridge to see some fish.
 I have a meeting at 9am.
 Jane went home at lunchtime.
 He's doing this exercise to understand the lesson.
 In England, it often snows in December.
