2. Costume
• The costume that would typically be used in a
music video such as new man would be casual
clothing that isn't too exposing or out there.
• One example of a music video which is similar to
“New man: would be Shawn Mendes song “Treat
you better” for example in the music video the
main person is the artist and he is wearing just
jeans and a t-shirt. This is because the set of the
music is about fighting for a girl and there is no
need for an outfit that is really over the top.
3. Costume
• Another example of this would also be
OneRepublic, counting stars. In this music
video we follow the main singer in the band
around and he is also just wearing a black t-
shirt and jeans.
• Another example of this would be MAGIC-
“Rude” which is all about being in love with a
girl who’s family who doesn't’t except you and
we follow him around trying to impress her
father. In the music video we can see her family
who are male in shirts and ties yet the main
artist is just in a leather jacket and a flowery
top. At the end of the video we see the main
artist in a suit but as he is not the sort of person
who would be wearing a costume like that he
dresses it down with a beanie ha.
4. Costume
• I found that in most music
videos which are similar to
the song “New man” that
men genially are in plain
clothing that isn’t extra and
it’s more women who are put
in costumes which are either
more revealing or more
edgy. As the men are
wearing more casual clothing
this could say a lot about the
artist themselves.
5. Location
• The place we could see “New man” being set would
be in a city or in a town.
• One example o a music video where it is clearly set
in a town or a city would be Mark Ronson – Uptown
Funk ft. Bruno Mars. We can clearly see that they
are in a town from the places where they go. For
example they go into a barbers or a shoe cleaning
place. They also stand outside loads of different
shops and houses. It looks like it has been set in a
jazz town in New York which fits the song very well.
• Another example of a music video which has been
set in a town or city would be Sam smith- Stay with
me. We can tell that it is set in London as we can
see the red busses and he’s walking down the street
and you can see london landmarks in the
background. Its not just set there its also set in his
house and in some sort of church where he is joined
by other people singing. This is because a
conventional music video will be set in many
different locations.
6. Narrative
• The music for new man would be a love
story narrative where he follows around his
ex girlfriend and her new man.
• One example of a music which has a
strong love story narrative would be Taylor
Swift ft. Ed Sheeran- Everything has
changed where we can see two young kids
who spend the whole time together when
they are at school and how they fall in love
with each other from such a young age. We
can see them making forts together and
making drawing and going on adventures
around their school.
7. Narrative
Another music that has a love story
narrative would be over and over again by
Nathan Sykes. This has a strong love
story which is told by an old lady who tells
her story about a young couple who were
in love and how they grew up with each
other and spent their whole lives together
until the husband got old and passed
away. Not till the end of the video we find
out that the old lady who is telling the
story was the one in love. This then
causes the audience to feel emotion for
the people in the music video which is
something Ed Sheeran does a lot in his
music videos. He wants the theme of the
song to be able to reflect in the music
video and tell a story.
