10. Seven Cs of Communication
Definition:
The 7 C’s of Communication embrace the
fundamentals that help to improve the
professional communication skills. The
process of communication hence needs to
follow the Seven Cs in order to ensure its
effectiveness so as to obtain the desired or
intended results.
11. Seven Cs of Communication
1. Completeness: (i.e. The condition of
having all the necessary parts)
The communication must be complete. It should
convey all of the essentials required by the
audience. The sender of the message must take into
consideration the receiver’s mindset and convey the
message accordingly. A complete communication
always gives additional information wherever
required.
12. Completeness leaves no questions in the mind of
receiver. Complete communication helps in better
decision-making and comprehension on the part of
receivers of the message as they get all desired and
crucial information.
13. 2. Conciseness
(i.e. the quality of being short and clear)
Conciseness is one of the basic prerequisites for
ensuring an effective communication in any
communicative context . Concise communication
does not have any excessive and needless words. An
effective message is clear in terms of its meanings;
it is delivered using limited words. It is not
repetitive with regard to its main content; it is time
saving and productive in its nature.
14. 3. Consideration:
(A careful thought or attention or compassionate
regard for someone or something)
A communicator must have an ability to empathize
with people. He/she must consider the issues like
the recipients' viewpoints, educational levels,
interests, cultural and the religious beliefs, and the
affective attributes of the audience. While
conveying the message, a sender is required to be
friendly, considerate, and accommodating.
15. 4. Clarity
(i.e. the quality or condition of being clear or easy
to understand)
A message must be clear in terms of thought, choice
of word and the intended meaning, required to be
conveyed. All types of abbreviations (e.g.
Initialisms, Acronyms, Blends, Clippings , etc.)
must be avoided. Similarly, a sender of the message
must avoid using Jargons and Code-Switching, and
slangs. One must refrain from delivering multiple
thoughts in a single message.
16. 5. Concreteness
(i.e. concerned with realities or actual instances
rather than abstraction)
An effective message is supported by facts and
figures (i.e. precise details)
The messages based on realities (rather than
abstractions) are not misinterpreted ; such kinds
of messages, strengthen the confidence of the
sender.
17. 6. Courtesy
(i.e. Considerate, respectful and polite behavior)
A communicator is required to be polite,
respectful, and considerate in manner and
expression. He/she must regard and value the
feelings of people. A courteous communicator is
humble, respectful, and appreciative. He/ she
avoids delayed response to the sender’s message.
It is important to mention that courtesy of
message essentially depends upon verbal as well
as non-verbal dimensions of communication
18. 7. Correctness
(The quality or state of being free from error)
Correctness in communication revolves around;
1. Authenticity of information
2. Correctness of language
3. Reliability of the source of information
A Communicator must convey authentic
information. Message must be conveyed without
any mistakes/errors of language. The source of
information must be truthful and trustworthy.
