Mast
The mast which supports the design consists of two steel
panels with steel cinders in-between holding the two
panels together. The reason for this design is to reduce
the weight of having one large steel column and also a
mast that is more aesthetically than a large column.
Tie Bar System
To support the two building block the design would compromise of a tie bar system. The reason
for using this is purely for the simplicity of the system and how easy it is to attach and detach from
the building. The tie bar system will use steel cables as this is what is used in bridge technology
and heavy duty cables would be needed to stabilise the buildings.
Due to the nature of the design, the structure of the design had to be as
strong as possible in order to cope with the cantilever design. A timber
structure would not have been suitable for this design.
Steel being one of the most recyclable materials on earth means that the
structures can always be recycled or even made from recycled steel. This
enables a design that sustainable.
One of the main advantages of using a steel frame means that it can easily
be assembled and disassembled in order to be relocated.
Having a design that may need to be taken down and re assembled
means that steel would work well as it would last a long time without any
major problems that a timber structure would have.
I Beams
Using beams for aesthetics
Foundation
One way in which I wanted to use the structure
as an antithetical element was by having the
steel beams flush with the floor, Even though this
increases the chance of cold bridging I felt it was
import to do this as it flows with my design by
having all the steel elements in the heart of the
design like the mast.
The foundation of the mast uses a
concrete base which is bolted to the
mast itself.
I beams would be used for the main
frame and uses a simple bolt on struc-
ture which makes it easy to disassemble
and assemble to be relocated.

Heating: Ground source heat pump
Ventilation
Because of the size of the building I believed that windows would be suffi-
cient enough to ventilate the building and also cool the building down. To
improve ventilation through the building each individual room has its own
window.
The ground source heat pump is a good solution to heat the
building as a water pump can not be used as the building does not
have direct access to the river soar.

Solution is heated by grounds
natural heat.
Heated solution pumped into a
heat exchanger.
Heat exchanger heats the hot water
in the tank and is passed through the
health station using radiators.
