What do you mean by the term
‘CIVIC AMENITIES’?
The facilities provided by the local government or the
facilities commonly used by locals are known as ‘civic
amenities’. These include :
1. Water supply
3. Roads and flyovers
4. Garbage disposal
5. Beautification of city
6. Education

Proposed Solutions
WATER SUPPLY
• Enhancing water purification by increasing the number of water
purification plants and dividing cities into proper sectors.
• Rain water harvesting should be made mandatory.
ELECTRICITY
• Strict monitoring of electricity –theft.
• Subsidizing products which are energy efficient like solar panel,
CFL etc.
ROADS AND FLYOVERS
• Allowing FDI in flyover projects.
• Setting up a EMPOWERED panel to check quality of roads.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL
• Garbage should be segregated at home itself mainly into organic
waste, plastic waste and electronic waste.
BEAUTIFICATION OF CITY
• Optimizing space utility by increasing densities of gardens and tall
skyscrapers.
• Using eco-friendly public amenities like solar-street-lights etc.
EDUCATION
• Diverting of funds according to the number of poor or
underprivileged in a government school.
Proposed Solutions
Implementation
Water supply:1. At present in every city there is a water
treatment plant in outskirts of the city.
This single plant purifies the water of entire
city. This puts a lot of strain on the plant and
thereby reduces its functional capability
and efficiency in purification.
2. So the cities should be divided into 4-5 zones ,
each of them having their own purification plants.
3. Rain-water harvesting should be made compulsory.
Garbage disposal:1.Garbage should be segregated at home itself
mainly into organic waste, plastic waste and electronic
waste.
2. Segregation of waste which is dumped in mixed form
from house is very difficult, costly and inefficient
task.
3. Organic waste can be used for making compost
and natural fertilizers whereas electronic and
plastic waste can be recycled and reused in
best way possible.
Electricity: 1.The eco-friendly gadgets which are very
costly should be subsidized to at least 50%
of their original cost.
Beautification of cities: 1.Increasing number of parks.
2.The space management can be best done
by constructing sky-scrappers -thereby
concentrating the population in limited
space and utilizing the rest for eco-
friendly purposes.
Education: 1. According to present situation government provides
funds to all of its schools.
2. So money received by government schools which have students
enrolled who are from privileged section also get benefit.
3. This money could have been used on extra curricular activities of poor
students.
4.So government should recognize number of poor students in each school
and spend money accordingly.
Implementation
World class
CIVIC AMENITIES
Modernization
of cities
More sustainable
place of living.
More tourist
attraction.
Hygiene
Less diseases, less
accumulation of waste
and improved
standard of living.
Education
More responsible and
aware citizen are
furnished.
Creation of more jobs
and employment.
Impact of the SOLUTION
Challenges faCed….
CIVIC
AMENITIES
CHALLENGES FACED
Water supply The water purification plants are very costly and difficult to
maintain. They need efficient engineers which increases their
maintenance cost, so not feasible in small cities.
Electricity Solar panels, CFLs and other energy efficient cum eco-friendly
gadgets are very costly for a common man. So even though they
are effective they aren’t widely used.
Roads and flyovers Due to high-capita- investments corruption in the proposed
empowered panel cannot be declined.
CIVIC
AMENITIES
CHALLENGES FACED
Garbage disposal People are reluctant in segregating the domestic garbage.
Beautification of city People lack the confidence in government for letting government
utilize their land for urbanization which thereby renders the
efforts of government fruitless.
Education Since huge amount of money is spent by government on
education, corruption is biggest challenge faced.
Thank you !!
