What is a Smart City?

  2. 2. In 2050, 7in10people will live in a city and70% of all produced energy will be consumed there
  3. 3. Today, 31 cities in the world are megacities. They host each more than 10 millions Inhabitants. In 2030, there willbe 41of them.
  4. 4. As urban population steadily increases, the current set of resources, systems and infrastructures show theirlimits.
  5. 5. The uncontrolled spread of cities is generatingsocial, environmental and economical issuesin the long term.
  6. 6. To take on these challenges, cities of the futureneed to reinvent themselves. There is a need to rethink the cityas a whole, and develop in smart sustainableways.
