The National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Education (NPEGEL) focuses on reaching girls who are not currently in school, especially those from hard to reach communities. Launched in 2003, it provides additional support for girls' education beyond normal investments through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan program. The program aims to develop model schools in every cluster with more community mobilization and supervision of girls' enrollment. It is implemented in educationally backward blocks and urban slums where female literacy and education levels are below national averages.
