For my final majorprojectIhave decidedtoalongwiththe idea
of producingashort filmasI believe thiswill be somethingIwill
be able to accomplish withinthe timescale.Idecidedtogowith
the ideaof a shortfilmas itis a projectthat I have not
attemptedbefore andwillpresenttome as a challenge,though
I believeIamcapable to creatinga professional grade shortfilm
as I do have the necessaryskillstocreate thisprojectsuch
gettingthe rightcamera anglesalongwiththe post-production.
ThoughI believe mytheoryworkwillhelpimprove the qualityof
my productionwithhelpfromwhatIlearnedfromfilmstudies,I
can applywhatI have learnedtomyfinal project.Lastly,I
believethata shortfilmwill give me the experience whichIwill
needinpursue mycareerwithinthe filmandtelevisionindustry.

The synopsisof myideais going toprimaryfocus onthe
content,the narrative andthe narrative structure,the genre
and how the mise enscène will improvethe technical qualities
withinthe scene.
FirstlyIwill explainaboutthe narrative developmentof the plot,
Since the narrative isthe structural frameworkof anyfilm, and
thenit wouldbe besttohave a narrative structure that would
successfullyhelpthe plotprogress rightuptothe conclusion.I
have decidedthata linearstructure wouldworksuccessfullyin
deliveringthe plottothe audience inawaythat it wouldnotbe
too confusing.Byusingalinearnarrative,thistellsthe audience
that the filmwill be done inachronological order. The storywill
situate aroundthisprotagonistongettingreadytogo to a job
interview,thiswill consistof the protagonisteatinghisbreakfast
and gettingdressed.Thiswill all be fine upandtill the endwhen
the protagonistisreadyto leave,thisisitisrevealedtothe
audience thatthisprotagonistislivingafictional life inan
abandonedhouse,thiswill onlybe revealedtothe audience at
the veryend.Thoughthe story will be leftona cliff-hangerthis
will allow the audience toimagine theirownstoryforthis
character. Thisshowsthat I have gone withthe mystery genre
as it createsandenigmacode for the audience,thoughthe
questionsare notansweredbythe endwhichallowsthe
audience toanswerthe mysterieswith the audience’s
imagination. The contentthataudience shouldexpectissimilar
to a professional grade mysteryfilminchoice of Music,
Cinematographyandthe Mise enscène.Firstly,the audience
shouldexpectslow pace cinematographyandasthe film
progresses,theyshouldexpecttosee the cinematographyget
fasterwiththe use of fastshots,thiswouldbe usedtocreate
tensionforthe audience astheyobserve the filmprogresses.

My targetaudience formyfinal majorprojectwouldbe aiming
towardsa youngerand middle agedtargetaudience asthese
are more likelytobe interestedinthe mysterygenre,ThoughI
believethatmyproductwouldnotbe specificallyaimingat
specificsocial classificationcomparedtoage. Asinregarding
gender,Iwouldsaythat the filmwill attractmore males
comparedto femalesasstereotypicallymalesare more into
genressuchas horror, thrillerand mysteryasopposedto
females. ThoughIdobelievethatthe filmwill be more opento
the lowerclassand studentsdue tothe setting andthe theme
of the filmbeingaboutastudentwhoisgettingreadyfora job
interview,the settingof the abandonedhouse alsosuggests
lowerclassdue to the poverty. Withthe additionof a lower
classsetting,Iwouldexpectthe filmtoappeal toa lowerclass
area regardingdemographicsasitcouldbe somethingthey
couldrelate to. To conclude, thoughIhave setout my
guidelinesonhow Iwantto target myaudience,Ibelieve that
my contentwill be opentoeveryone toenjoy.

the needs of your target
audience?
I will be meetingthe needsof the targetaudience byincluding
contentthat will specificallytargetmyintendedaudience.For
example withthe targetingof the lowerclass,Iwill be including
the settingof a lowerclasshome which helpsreachmy
intendedtargetaudience.Iwill be keepingtothe codesand
conventionsof the mysterygenre withoutgoingagainstthe
convention,withthe exceptionof the openingof the filmwhere
the musicwill attempttodivertthe audiencessuggestionson
whatis the mysteryis,thiswill create anenigmacode whichthe
audience will askwhatistocome next. For myfilm, Iwant to
include numerousamountsof enigmacodeswhichwillmake
the audience questionwhatisgoingtocome next,I believe this
isthe correct wayin target audience asitrelatestothe genre.
Lastly,anotherwayof targetinga youngeraudience isbyhaving
a youngleadactor, thiswill targetmyintendedaudience asthe
actor I will be of the same age group of the target audience.

will you use to realise your
project?
FirstlyIwill be startingonpre-production;thisiswhere Iwill
expanduponthe storymore thoroughly.Inorderto planout
howmy filmwill go,Ibelieve usingstoryboardsandascript
(roughdraft andfinal draft) will be the bestmethodasthisis
where Iwill be able togo intodetail onwhatis exactlygoingto
happeninthe film.Thoughinorderto take safetyprecautions,I
will create adetail riskassessmentonwhatrisksImight
encounterduringfilmandhow toI planto preventthemfrom
happening. Alongsidethis,Iwill include:alocation
reconnaissance report,Call sheet,KitBudget,Jobroles,
productionschedulesandamood board.Thiswill alsobe
backedup withmyanalysesof three shortfilmsandthe codes
and conventionsof multiplegenressuchasMystery andHorror.
The productionwill come nextwhichshouldspanovertwodays
if all goesto plan,thenit shouldbe completedintime thoughif
necessaryIcouldjustadd an extraday of filming. Lastlywould
be the post-production,Iexpectthistotake upto a month or
lesstocomplete bothedits,whichIwill use helpof peer-
feedbackfromasurveyto helpimprove myfinal edit.Informs
of editing,forthe openingIwill increasethe saturationtomake
the protagonistsfictional life standoutmore fromthe real
worldand have a low saturationwiththe addition low key
lightingtohelpsupportthe realism.Iwantthese twoscenesto
be able to standout as it will make iteasierforthe viewerto
recognise whichisreal andwhichisfictional.
