1. Academic Proposal
I have developedsignificantlythroughoutthiscourse. Ihave learnttoprioritise workingwithpeople
that contribute somethingtothe project asopposedto people Iknow.Forexample,inmyfirst
projectI onlyworkedwithpeopleonmytable asI knew themalready.Inmymost recentproject,
we were assignedagroupand so I had to learnmyteam’sstrengthsandworkaccording to that. I
have alsolearntto focuson the story/message Iwanttotell/deliverasopposedtothe aestheticsof
the piece. Inmy musicvideo,Ifocusedonwhatwasseenonscreenas opposedtowhat message it
delivered.Thisdidn’thinderme assuch butin hindsight,Icanthinkof several thingsIwoulddo
differentlywiththisnewapproach. Thishasinfluencedme toensure myprojectisrealisticinthe
messagesIdeliver. Bythis,Imeanthat I have to considerwhatI can physicallydoandnotjust think
withpure ambitionleadingme forward. Ihave alsobeeninspiredtochallenge myself intermsof
content,somy workwouldbe complex intermsof locationandvisuals.Iusuallysticktoa base
settingina project,sothisprojectI will be shootingonseveral locationsandusingseveralmediums
includingAdobe AfterEffectstocreate an infographic.
So,this ismy concept.Itis goingtake a narrative form. We follow the lifeof anaspiringfilmmaker,
whois takingupan interestinsmall-time productions andfilms.He firstwatchesafilm/production
of a small organisationandwatchesthe followingbehind-the-scenesvideoof the film.He thenreads
booksaboutproduction,rangingfromcameraworktofilmhistorytoautobiographies.The images
and thoughtsfromthiswill appearbehindhimusingagreenscreen. He findsoutaboutthe filmclub
and the focuswill temporarilyshiftfromthe persontothe experience of the filmclub.He then
daydreamsof makingitbigas a filmmakerandwinningawards.We thencutto an infographicof the
detailsregardingcontactinformationforthe club.
My researchcomes froma newspaperarticle thathada lotof informationdirectlyregarding
the potential YouthFilmClubatthe JohnHurt Centre inCinemaCity.Itdiscussedthe audience
bracket,whichis16 – 25 year olds,whotheyare collaboratingwith(BBCVoicesandNorfolkArts
Trust as part of the YoungFilmProgrammersNetwork) andwhentheyplantomake thishappen (in
April). Ihave alsolookedatthe website forthe JohnHurtCentre.It isveryaestheticallypleasingand
isinformative inregards towhatyou will gainfromeachroom. Thisgivesme enoughinformationto
understandhowtheymaywantit to look(formal,creative andappealing)andallowsme tocreate a
roughaction planas to whatI can doand when. Ialso readtheirpressrelease,whichdiscussedwhat
theyhope to achieve withthe club.Theywanttouse the club as a platformforyoungcareersto
take off of and prosperinthe industry.Theyplanonbringinginprofessionalsfromthe industryto
talkand give advice.All of thisinformationreinforcesthe contentof myproposedidea.
I wouldneedacamera to filmmypiece.I’d preferablyuse aDSLR like a5D camera.This is
because intermsof footage,Iwant the bestqualityimage anditisn’tnecessaryforme to record
audioon the camera as the audiofocuswill be ambientmusicandnarration.Torecord the
narration,I would preferablyuse azoommic,as thishas the bestdirectional recordingcapability
and will give me the bestqualityaudio.Location-wise,Iwouldrequire three mainlocations.The
mostobviousof whichisthe John Hurt Centre itself.GuyfromCinemaCityhassaidwe are allowed
to joininwithsessionstorecord.The secondlocationisthe college building.There are acouple of
reasonsforthis.Firstof all,the college hasalibrarywhichhas booksonfilmproductionthatI need
for one of the scenes. Secondly,Ineedtouse the TV studio(primarilythe greenscreen) whichwill
be difficulttorecreate anywhereelse.The final locationisahouse.Thisisfor the firstscene andalso
for one of the later scenes.Thiswill create arelaxedenvironmentwhich will make the passionof the
filmmakerappeargenuine andthusappealing.Iwill needtwoothermembersof myproduction
teambesidesme. Iwill take the role of directorforobviousreasons.Ialsoneedsomeonetoact as
the youngfilmmakerandIneeda cameraman.Havinga cameramanwill allow me todirectthe
scenesperfectlyandwillalsoallowthemtoproperlyframe the shotwithoutme havingtoworry
aboutit.

2. I will make sure tobe recordingall my feedbackintoanotebook.These will be the criteria thatthe
clientwantsme to be workingunder,patternsinaudience responseandlecturerfeedback.Iwill
alsobe goingovermyideasandstoryboardswithgreenpen,addingthe inputfrommyclient. Ihave
a template of whatI needtoinclude inmyevaluationsoapplyingthe feedbackIreceive tothe
questionsIneedtoanswerwill provide me withthe perfectevaluation. Ihave learntfrommy
previousevaluationsandunderstand thatIshouldn’tbe focussingonjustmythoughtsonthe ups
and downsof the project,butalso onhow I perform, how Ihave progressedintermsof abilityand
whatI have achievedwiththe project.
