3. Focused Interview
• The focused interview is designed to determine the responses of
persons exposed to a situation previously analyzed by the
investigator.

4. Semi-Standardized Interview,
• Semi-structured interviews are a blend of structured and
unstructured types of interviews.
• Unlike in an unstructured interview, the interviewer has an idea of
what questions they will ask.
• Unlike in a structured interview, the phrasing and order of the
questions is not set.

6. Expert Interview
• Expert interviews are a widely-used qualitative interview method
often aiming at gaining information about or exploring a specific
field of action.

7. Group Interviews
• It is performed by planned discussion and interview with a small
group of people conducted by a moderator.
• The participants are sampled from the study population.
• The aim is to obtain knowledge of the participant's considerations
and ideas on a specific topic.
• Group interviews provide another and rich dimension to
understanding an event or behavior; respondents can be stimulated
by the group to recall events they may have forgotten, and the
researcher gains insights into social relationships associated with
certain field settings

8. Focus Groups
• A focus group is a group interview involving a small number of
demographically similar people or participants who have other
common traits/experiences.
• Their reactions to specific researcher/evaluator-posed questions are
studied.
• Examples: A focus group of parents of preschoolers meets to discuss
child care needs.

9. Non-participant Observation
• A research technique whereby the researcher watches the subjects
of his or her study, with their knowledge, but without taking an
active part in the situation under scrutiny.
• Non-participant Observation involves observing participants without
actively participating.
• This option is used to understand a phenomenon by entering the
community or social system involved, while staying separate from the
activities being observed.

10. Participant Observation
Participant observation (PO) is a research methodology where the
researcher is immersed in the day-to-day activities of the
participants.
The objective is usually to record conduct under the widest range of
possible settings.
An example of participant observation is extended observation and
participation in a hospital over six months to understand the
perspectives and experiences of nurses and patients.

11. Ethnography
• Ethnography, simply stated,
is the study of people in their
own environment through the
use of methods such as
participant observation and
face-to-face interviewing.

12. Grounded Theory Methodology
• Grounded theory is a systematic
methodology that has been largely
applied to qualitative research
conducted by social scientists.
• The methodology involves the
construction of hypotheses and
theories through the collecting and
analysis of data.
• Grounded theory involves the
application of inductive reasoning.
