Banana maps created using satellite imagery can help prioritize disease surveillance areas, delineate potential infection zones, and aid targeted field inspections to assist in eradication efforts. Researchers are investigating the use of high resolution satellite imagery to map banana farms in Nigeria, with ground surveys collecting over 800 geotagged photos in 2018 to identify infected and healthy fields to analyze alongside purchased high resolution satellite images and other medium resolution imagery to identify banana plantain crops.
