Comparing Romeo And Juliet
1. In this scene, Romeo has fallen in love with Juliet at first sight. He desires Juliet to something very "bright"(1.5 Line 51) as "a rich jewel"(1.5
Line 53) and how beautiful she is compared to other ladies. Romeo uses figure of speech as he compares her to many different types of things, for
example, a "snowy dove"(1.4 Line 55) as they are beautiful to "crows" (1.4 Line 55). These things purify how indeed in love Romeo is. 2. Romeo's
speech to Juliet is way passionate than what it was to Rosaline. As to Juliet's, Romeo seems to be calm, easy going and admire her more.He speaks
from his heart without thinking. In compared to Rosaline's speech, Romeo was stressed and over thinking as his love was not from his heart. He
wanted to be in

Romeo And Juliet Movie Comparison Essay
In the original play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare in 1587, throughout the years there have been movies made trying to convey the
message that Shakespeare had wanted. The movies that will be examined in order to compare the differences on whether they are similar to the original
are Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and Carlo Carlei's 2013 version, Romeo & Juliet. The movies are another
version of the original play in terms of setting, tone and characters that were used in conveying the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is clearly seen that
Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version is more similar to the original play as it brings out the tone and conveys the message better than the Carlo Carlei's 2013

Unlike Baz Luhrmann's movie, Carlo Carlei conveyed the tones of romance, passion and violence differently. Carlei changes the start of the original
plot to a jousting tournament, in the end, Benvolio wins the golden ring for the Montagues. This then makes the Capulets to be quite annoyed and
jealous as they start a fight with the Montagues. They then get caught by the Prince as he declares that they have started three civil brawls around fair
Verona and whoever starts another between the families will be killed. The statement that the Prince made was not shown, as only one brawl was
shown in the Carlo Carlei's version.
The setting of the Baz Luhrmann movie was fair Verona, although it had more of a modern day twist to it. This is evident when the cars, petrol
stations, helicopters and televisions were visible throughout the movie, which does not convey the similar setting with the original play. It can also be
conspicuous during the violence in the Baz Luhrmann movie when the characters shot each other with guns instead of using swords. The original play
was set in the classical times that did not contain modern objects like those in the Baz Luhrmann movie. Instead of the Carlo Carlei movie sets the
scene with a more olden way of presenting Verona, which resembles the original more than the Baz Luhrmann version. The Carlo Carlei version
resembled more similar settings to the original play as it is shown by the costumes, swords that were used when fighting and the

There are many comparisons and changes between ВЁRomeo and Juliet,ВЁ the movie, and ВЁRomeo + Juliet,ВЁ the play. ВЁRomeo and
JulietВЁ is about how Romeo attends a party he isn't supposed to and he meets Juliet. They kiss and decide they want to live together forever.
Juliet was set to marry Paris, but she loves Romeo, so she drinks a potion making her appear dead. When Romeo finds Juliet, he thinks she is dead,
so he decides to commit suicide. When Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo dead, so she commits suicide as well, both being unable to cope with the
death of their beloved. There are similarities and differences between the play and the movie, because the director wanted the movie to be innovative,
so it would appeal to common society. The first similarity between the play and the movie of Shakespeare's play, would be the use of Shakespearean
language. Even though the movie is modernized, the old...show more content...
When a rumor is heard that Paris is going to propose to Juliet, Lady Capulet confronts her about the decision. Juliet, wanting to please her mother,
agrees to give Paris a chance. Capulet thinks that his daughter is too young to marry anyone. He doesn't want his daughter to grow up and leave
him, because in that era, as soon as the bride would marry, she would leave her family, and he can't bear the thought of losing his only daughter.
Although, there are quite a few similarities, there are also many differences. Some of the many differences have to do with the modern adaptation
of the play to the movie. One of the more noticeable differences of the play to the movie, is the age difference. In the play, Romeo is 18 and Juliet is
13. However, in the movie, Romeo is 28 and Juliet is 16. This is in order to relate to the younger audience watching the play during that time period.
However, the age difference is use to shock people watching the

Movie Compare and Contrast
There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very
easy to spot these differences considering the time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both
movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren't in the play. Let us get on to the similarities and differences.
First off, the biggest difference is the time periods of each movie. The older movie was set in Early Renaissance times. The newer movie is set in the
early ninety's. Another difference is the use of special effects. In the...show more content...
Romeo got dizzy for a minute at the party and then he was fine. It had no relevance to the story line what so ever. Another big difference isJuliet saw
Romeo die in the modern version. In the old version Romeo dies without knowing Juliet was really alive. In the modern version Juliet wakes up
seconds after Romeo drinks the poison. If Juliet would have taken the sleeping potion a minute earlier, the two lovers could have been together. My
final difference is in the modern version once Romeo goes back into the Verona walls the cops start to chase him. While being chased Romeo makes a
stop at the Apothecary who sells him the poison. In the old version they didn't have an apothecary. Romeo just shows up with the poison. Those are my
differences.
Now how about some similarities. My first similarity is in both versions how the people carried around weapons. In the old one the people of
Verona carried swords. In the modern version of the play the people of Verona carried handguns. Two different weapons, but they were used in the
same fashion in both versions of the play. Another likeness is Paris didn't bite the dust in any of the versions. He is only in a few scenes. He's not
even in the last scene where he was supposed to meet his maker. While on the subject of death, Lady Montague does not die in either version. She is
seen exiting the final scene in both versions. She doesn't even have a big role in the story. My next similarity is the

Romeo and Juliet Comparative Essay
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story about two young lovers who are forced to be estranged as a result of their
feuding families. The play is about their struggle to contravene fate and create a future together. As such, it was only a matter of time before
Hollywood would try and emulate Shakespeare's masterpiece. This had been done before in many films. Prominent among them were, Franco
Zeffirelli's 1968 "Romeo and Juliet" and Baz Luhrmann's 1996 "William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet." Both films stay true to the themes of
Shakespeare's original play. However, the modernised Luhrmann film not only maintains the essence of Shakespeare's writings, Luhrmann makes it
relevant to a teenage audience. This is...show more content...
Luhrmann further modernised his film adaption by altering the play's original prologue. The movie begins with a prologue made as a television
broadcast. In doing this it informs the audience of the violence taking place between the two families, the Montagues and the Capulets. The prologue
differs dramatically from Zeffirelli's interpretation. The 1968 version of the prologue is retold by a monotonous narrator, who simply tells the tale of
the feuding families set over a milieu of an Italian city. In restructuring the prologue Luhrmann has made his interpretation of Romeo and Juliet more
appealing to a teenage audience. Adolescent viewers can identify more with a modern television broadcast in comparison to a tedious monologue
recital. Luhrmann's variation of the film is more suited to a teenage audience than Zeffirelli's due to the vibrant settings and modern sets utilised
throughout the film. Several of these sets include the beach, high rise buildings and petrol stations. These factors are used to tempt a younger audience.
Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, however takes place in a medieval Italian city. Although the original play was based and performed in this location,
teenage viewers cannot relate to the surroundings, hence making it difficult to understand or appreciate the plot. The battle located at the petrol station
was a more convincing setting. Teenagers would relate more to the location as various mob wars in modern times

Romeo and Juliet Comparison It is well known that there are two different versions of the play Romeo and Juliet in motion picture. They are both
mind–blowingly amazing, with basically the same plot and storyline, but they are different in so many ways. The 1968 version is harder to
understand because of the lack of necessary props and costumes, yet it is the classic version, so it is usually more favorable of the two. The 1996
version should be shown to high schoolers, as it is viewed as the easier version to understand because of its more modern setting, props, costumes, and
the way the characters act with one another. One of the ways the two movies are different is the contrast in props. The props in the 1996 movie are
very modern and high–tech compared to the 1968 version. For example: In the 1996 movie, the characters use guns as a substitute for swords, which
are used in the 1968 version. The clothing is very different as well. In the the 1996 version, the actors wore modern clothes like and astronaut costume,
some ties here and there, and in Romeo's case, floral button–downs. There is also dyed hair here and there, along with earrings and other face piercings.
In comparison, there are tights, poofy sleeves, and robes in the 1968 version....show more content...
The sets of the 1996 and the 1968 versions are very diverse. The sets in the 1996 movie have more current buildings, and a park at the beach. There
are also elaborate paintings and beautiful stone steps in the mansion. There are signs lighting up all over in the city, with modern–day police. There are
automobiles and rock bands. This is almost the opposite of the 1968 film. This version has Stone pillars, a real Italian family tomb. Their roads are
dirt roads, or made of rocks and cobblestones. There were torches instead of lights, and people got around by foot. The people used swords in place of
guns, and there were no helicopters or flashing

The song "Michelle" by the Beatles and the story of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare both assist the notion of the male brain when a male becomes
struck with love and how they handle their feelings in those moments. The song "Michelle" supports this idea because it exhibits portraying imagery of
a French man trying to express his love to a woman, but not knowing how to do it. The man then uses his verbal gestures to speak to her in the best
way he can. Likewise, Romeo and Juliet supports this idea because it expresses a character named Romeo that does his best to convey his love for
Juliet but being dumbfounded and incapable of finding the right words to say. Romeo happens to be so awestruck with love that he mumbles and
struggles to find the right words to win Juliet's heart....show more content...
In response to love, males become dazed and struggle to get the words out to win over their lover's heart. As a French man does his best to express
his love to a woman, he announces, "Until you do, I am hoping you will know what I mean" (Doc 1.). The French man happens to be so awestruck
because of his love for her that he can only speak his love and nothing else. When a male comes into contact with the feeling of love, he feels as if
he becomes stuck in a trance and can only speak his mind. As Romeo sets his sight upon Juliet, he loses track of his surroundings and announces,
"Beauty too rich to use, for earth too dear" (Romeo and Juliet. 1.5.47). Romeo looks upon the figure that exists as Juliet and becomes transfixed
because of her beauty. His only response to this feeling is to convey his love to her verbally in the best possible manner. Males also experience
feelings of isolation when trying to verbally express love. Romeo declares romantically, "For my heart ne'er saw true beauty till this night"

Romeo and Juliet Essay Do you love someone? Is that someone, your spouse or significant other, or is that person one of your parents or even
someone else? Well whoever it is you would most likely give something up for them, right? With love, it can be beautiful, but also love can be
consequential. Obviously, you would take chances for that person, but surely some of those choices will backfire and do more harm than help. Also,
if you are a secretive and keep your feelings separated from other people you care about they might start feeling like you don't actually care. Finally,
love is fantastic, but the truth lies in how much you are willing to give up. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo takes many chances to be with Juliet; this

Juliet kept being in love with Romeo confidential from her parents. Soon her parents realized something was up and made her comply to marry
Paris (Act 4, Scene 1). What this symbolizes is that people who care for you could and will be hurt by what you keep from them. Again Juliet
acted this way out of love for Romeo. Love, the beginning is great, but then it comes to truth and true feelings on what you can give up for the
person that you "love". Some people would give up time with friends or time with family. In Romeo and Juliet's case, they gave up their lives (Act
5, Scene 3). This just shows how "in love" Romeo and Juliet were. However, different people will cut out different things for the ones they love.
Romeo and Juliet indeed love each other and gave up their lives for each other. Love can be the greatest feeling in the world, but also comes with
unexpected consequences. The chances you take can backfire, other people in your life could start questioning the care you feel for them, and it
comes down to how much you are willing to give up to gain appreciation of them. What would you surrender and what chances would you take for the

The two stories The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisby there are many similarities and differences. For example, they are both
love stories. Which is a similarity. A example of a difference is Pyramus and Thisby never got to meet each other before their fate. Throughout the
stories there are many more examples of similarities and differences. First off we will start with a difference. The first one that we have is Romeo
and Juliet got married, while Pyramus and Thisby wanted to get married, but they didn't. The whole reason how Romeo and Juliet died was because
of the wedding. "Here comes the lady" (Shakespeare 419). This quote is from the wedding when Juliet enters. While in the other story Pyramus and

Romeo and Juliet could actually communicate face to face while Pyramus and Thisbe had to talk through a wall. " So they would talk, and as the
night came on and they must part, each would press on the wall kisses that would not go through the lips on the other side". (Ovid 488). This
quote shows that the two would have to talk and "kiss" through the wall and could never come face to face. This was the second difference on
between the two stories, now on to the similarities. The first similarities are they both killed themselves because of love. They thought one of them
died so they ended their own life to be with the other. "[Snatches Romeo's dagger], This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die." (Shakespeare 475).
This quote is when Juliet killed herself when she found Romeo dead. The same thing happened in the other story. This was the first similarity we had
found. The next similarity is both their families were enemies. They both had a wall splitting them apart too. 'My only love sprung from my only
hate." (Shakespeare 396). This quote was said by Juliet when she found out Romeo was a Montague. As you can see these details make the two stories

Romeo And Juliet: Comparison Of Book And Movie
Romeo and juliet The time period in this movie was the complete opposite than the book. In the book there were no cars, no guns, no lights. I
believe the book took place in 1303, but the movie was in the early 90's. Their swords were replaced with guns, their horses with cars. I would of felt a
totally different vibe from the movie, it's newer and the dialect was still old, that didn't fit right. The prologue was said on the news. Their 'Gold' is
paper money. Some of the characters are different. Romeo was a lot more chill and didn't act like a 4 year old. Mercutio was pretty cool, he was a
savage at the party, he gave everyone some drugs and partied like it was 1964. Lady Capulet was also totally different, She was crazy like Mercutio at

Romeo And Juliet Compared To Today
The story of Romeo and Juliet can be compared to modern lives of teenagers, by comparing their actions, personalities and emotions.
Juliet never agreed with her parents and always wanted to do things her own way. Capulet and Lady Capulet where only doing their jobs as her parents
to help her out. Through their eyes they where just being helpful to Juliet by finding her a suitable Husband. However Juliet disagreed with many of
their ideas. These situations may resemble teens today and how they rebel against their parents even though they might only be guiding them with good
judgment.
Juliet chooses her words carefully while talking to Count Paris so that she doesn't commit herself to him or say that she doesn't want to be his wife. This
deceiving word play is copied by teenagers in the present day. They also talk themselves out of a tuff situation by misleading whoever they are talking
to. This could be with relationships, school work or teachers. Personally I find that this is common and teenagers speak in certain ways that will benefit

Romeo And Juliet As A Comparative Essay
The Atypical Woman
The female protagonists of both Shakespeare's classic "Romeo and Juliet" and Forster's A Room with a View have shown themselves to be strong
women in a dramatic situation revolving their relationships, as well as their own lives. Lucy Honeychurch and Juliet Capulet have qualities that
demonstrate their independent thoughts, as well as their atypical beliefs for their society. While they have many similarities, they may vary in their
environments and their own self–reflection. Lucy and Juliet demonstrate themselves in similar roles, with varying aspects in their interactions and
personalities that impact their decisions and role in their societies.

Despite their similarities, the two women are different in some aspects of their personalities. For instance, Juliet is aware of her feelings for Romeo,
"My only love, sprung from my only hate" (I.5.139). Meanwhile, Lucy is unaware of her feelings towards George, as well as her own feelings in
general. She hides her affections for him, even to herself. "She compelled herself to confused remembrances of George: he was nothing to her; he
never had been anything... The armour of falsehood is subtly wrought out of darkness, and hides a man not only from others, but from his own soul"
(Forster, 150). Furthermore, Juliet appears to be passionate in her love, while Lucy appears to be the calm person in the relationship. Juliet
immediately jumps to the idea of marrying Romeo after seeing him twice, meanwhile Lucy is hesitant and takes her time to figure her mind. The age
difference between the two women, one being in her mid–teens, the other in her early twenties can explain the variety in their love.
Alongside similar personalities, the two women face similar challenges and people in their life. They are both women who are controlled by
members of their family whom are older than them. Charlotte is controlling Lucy, first as her chaperone on her trip to Italy, and then being controlled
because Charlotte knew her secret, and was telling her what to do because of the kiss. "How are you going to stop him talking about it?" (Forster,

In Romeo and Juliet, the death scene is truly an emotional scene compared to all parts of the movie. The book and the movie have different
aspects of why this scene is the same, but also has some parts to be different. In both the movie and the book, there were parts that were on spot
with similarities. One part that was very similar was when Romeo goes by Juliet's tomb and talks to her "dead" body in a monologue and afterward,
both the movie and the book have Romeo drink a poison where he talks about how strong the potion is. When Juliet wakes up, for both, Juliet does
not want to leave her tomb because of the fact she did not see Romeo until she looks around and finally sees him. To that, she stabs herself with a

In the book, I was having an image and knew that the capulets were in a tomb together and were going to be closed in, but in the movie, Juliet and
Tybalt are on separate beds and also, they are not even close to a tomb, Juliet is just lying there with sheer sheet on top of her. I cannot come to a
conclusion to why the movie would do this differently, but if I made a guess it would be because Juliet is a special character and to make sure we
knew where she was especially they wanted her to look different from everyone else by putting her under a spotlight, covering her with a special
cloth, and also keeping her separate from Tybalt. Also, in the book, there are all these other characters that were mentioned in the book, but most of
them were taken out like, Page, Paris, Friar John, etc. To the people directing the movie, I found it right to take out all these characters because most
of them were not important. Even though Paris is important in the book, I did not like to see another person die from their feud. To have Paris out of
the scene in the movie I felt with this scene was more sad with romance, but when Paris is in it I feel like that is taken

Could there ever be a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that is as powerful and moving as the original play by William Shakespeare? Some people
say that Romeo + Juliet, a film adaptation made in 1996 by Baz Luhrmann, is as good as the original. Some people disagree with that statement. The
argument will be settled within this essay, as the similarities between the film and the play are laid out. The narrative and film techniques that the
director used in the final scene brought dramatic and emotional feelings to the tragic death of the "star–crossed lovers" (Prologue, line 6). __Luhrmann

He was in a very dark room that represented him and the actions he just showed. He then found the tomb that Juliet was in. The entire tomb was filled
with light, which Romeo compared her with throughout the whole time he knew her. He says when he sees her, "For here lies Juliet, and her beauty
makes This vault a feasting presence full of light" (Act 5, Scene 3, lines 85–86). When he got to Juliet, there was so much candlelight surrounding her,
and she was wearing a white dress, which both symbolized her angelicness and her purity. When Romeo was walking to her tomb, the camera
angles switched from a close up on Romeo to a long shot of where he was to where Juliet's tomb was. When he got there and kissed her face, it

Baz Luhrmann's adaptation is perfect for teens to learn about Romeo and Juliet as there is no prior knowledge of the play required as the film
foregrounds everything. However a fair amount of prior knowledge is required for Taylor Swift's version as it doesn't provide the same as Baz's
adaptation. Luhrmann's version foregrounds all the same themes as the original, romance, fate, love, death, love conquers all, fighting, the
forcefulness of love, revenge, love as cause of violence and the inevitability of fate nothing like 'Love Story which only focuses on romance, love and
compassion. Another point that Taylor Swifts version doesn't foreground is the use of Shakespearian language on the other hand Luhrmann's
adaptation dialogue comprises of the Shakespearian language. A said before that the original Romeo and Juliet was not formally intended for
teenagers but Baz's remake undoubtedly is, it targets manly older teenagers by involving love, romance, sex, drugs and alcohol which teens are

based off of how things were back then, there are no guns, or cars, or cellphones. Since the writing of the play there have been several retellings in
the form of movies. The 1968 version of the movie is based directly off of the original story and there were very few differences between the text

Romeo and Juliet People repeatedly comment that William Shakespeare was and still is a legend. It is amazing how Shakespeare's play Romeo
and Juliet written centuries ago can be better than any movie productions of Romeo and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with.
Although the films appeared more alluring and may be slightly easier to follow, they left out some major parts. The play had better plot details
and the original Shakespearian language which made it much more interesting and by far a better representation of the story. This essay will prove
why the original play should be taught to English students over all film versions. One major difference between the play script and the movie
occurs in the plot. An example of this is in the beginning in the marriage scene where Romeo and Juliet privately get married by Friar. In the play,
Romeo and Juliet both come across as acting very seriously, you can tell this by the language the two use. In 'Act 2, Scene 6' Romeo says that "the
Holy Words the Friar speaks can make something without an equal" which for a young man is a very intellectual thing to say. In the same scene in
each movie version Romeo and Juliet flirt and chuckle during the entire process. This leads the viewers to believe that two lacked maturity which is a
completely different to what Shakespeare originally wanted to portray, instead it portrays that they could not do anything the way it is normally done
because they are children in

Comparing Romeo And Juliet

  • 1. Comparing Romeo And Juliet 1. In this scene, Romeo has fallen in love with Juliet at first sight. He desires Juliet to something very "bright"(1.5 Line 51) as "a rich jewel"(1.5 Line 53) and how beautiful she is compared to other ladies. Romeo uses figure of speech as he compares her to many different types of things, for example, a "snowy dove"(1.4 Line 55) as they are beautiful to "crows" (1.4 Line 55). These things purify how indeed in love Romeo is. 2. Romeo's speech to Juliet is way passionate than what it was to Rosaline. As to Juliet's, Romeo seems to be calm, easy going and admire her more.He speaks from his heart without thinking. In compared to Rosaline's speech, Romeo was stressed and over thinking as his love was not from his heart. He wanted to be in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Romeo And Juliet Movie Comparison Essay In the original play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare in 1587, throughout the years there have been movies made trying to convey the message that Shakespeare had wanted. The movies that will be examined in order to compare the differences on whether they are similar to the original are Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and Carlo Carlei's 2013 version, Romeo & Juliet. The movies are another version of the original play in terms of setting, tone and characters that were used in conveying the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is clearly seen that Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version is more similar to the original play as it brings out the tone and conveys the message better than the Carlo Carlei's 2013 ...show more content... Unlike Baz Luhrmann's movie, Carlo Carlei conveyed the tones of romance, passion and violence differently. Carlei changes the start of the original plot to a jousting tournament, in the end, Benvolio wins the golden ring for the Montagues. This then makes the Capulets to be quite annoyed and jealous as they start a fight with the Montagues. They then get caught by the Prince as he declares that they have started three civil brawls around fair Verona and whoever starts another between the families will be killed. The statement that the Prince made was not shown, as only one brawl was shown in the Carlo Carlei's version. The setting of the Baz Luhrmann movie was fair Verona, although it had more of a modern day twist to it. This is evident when the cars, petrol stations, helicopters and televisions were visible throughout the movie, which does not convey the similar setting with the original play. It can also be conspicuous during the violence in the Baz Luhrmann movie when the characters shot each other with guns instead of using swords. The original play was set in the classical times that did not contain modern objects like those in the Baz Luhrmann movie. Instead of the Carlo Carlei movie sets the scene with a more olden way of presenting Verona, which resembles the original more than the Baz Luhrmann version. The Carlo Carlei version resembled more similar settings to the original play as it is shown by the costumes, swords that were used when fighting and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Romeo And Juliet Comparison Essay There are many comparisons and changes between ВЁRomeo and Juliet,ВЁ the movie, and ВЁRomeo + Juliet,ВЁ the play. ВЁRomeo and JulietВЁ is about how Romeo attends a party he isn't supposed to and he meets Juliet. They kiss and decide they want to live together forever. Juliet was set to marry Paris, but she loves Romeo, so she drinks a potion making her appear dead. When Romeo finds Juliet, he thinks she is dead, so he decides to commit suicide. When Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo dead, so she commits suicide as well, both being unable to cope with the death of their beloved. There are similarities and differences between the play and the movie, because the director wanted the movie to be innovative, so it would appeal to common society. The first similarity between the play and the movie of Shakespeare's play, would be the use of Shakespearean language. Even though the movie is modernized, the old...show more content... When a rumor is heard that Paris is going to propose to Juliet, Lady Capulet confronts her about the decision. Juliet, wanting to please her mother, agrees to give Paris a chance. Capulet thinks that his daughter is too young to marry anyone. He doesn't want his daughter to grow up and leave him, because in that era, as soon as the bride would marry, she would leave her family, and he can't bear the thought of losing his only daughter. Although, there are quite a few similarities, there are also many differences. Some of the many differences have to do with the modern adaptation of the play to the movie. One of the more noticeable differences of the play to the movie, is the age difference. In the play, Romeo is 18 and Juliet is 13. However, in the movie, Romeo is 28 and Juliet is 16. This is in order to relate to the younger audience watching the play during that time period. However, the age difference is use to shock people watching the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Romeo and Juliet Movie comparison Essay Movie Compare and Contrast There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very easy to spot these differences considering the time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren't in the play. Let us get on to the similarities and differences. First off, the biggest difference is the time periods of each movie. The older movie was set in Early Renaissance times. The newer movie is set in the early ninety's. Another difference is the use of special effects. In the...show more content... Romeo got dizzy for a minute at the party and then he was fine. It had no relevance to the story line what so ever. Another big difference isJuliet saw Romeo die in the modern version. In the old version Romeo dies without knowing Juliet was really alive. In the modern version Juliet wakes up seconds after Romeo drinks the poison. If Juliet would have taken the sleeping potion a minute earlier, the two lovers could have been together. My final difference is in the modern version once Romeo goes back into the Verona walls the cops start to chase him. While being chased Romeo makes a stop at the Apothecary who sells him the poison. In the old version they didn't have an apothecary. Romeo just shows up with the poison. Those are my differences. Now how about some similarities. My first similarity is in both versions how the people carried around weapons. In the old one the people of Verona carried swords. In the modern version of the play the people of Verona carried handguns. Two different weapons, but they were used in the same fashion in both versions of the play. Another likeness is Paris didn't bite the dust in any of the versions. He is only in a few scenes. He's not even in the last scene where he was supposed to meet his maker. While on the subject of death, Lady Montague does not die in either version. She is seen exiting the final scene in both versions. She doesn't even have a big role in the story. My next similarity is the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Romeo and Juliet Comparative Essay Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story about two young lovers who are forced to be estranged as a result of their feuding families. The play is about their struggle to contravene fate and create a future together. As such, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would try and emulate Shakespeare's masterpiece. This had been done before in many films. Prominent among them were, Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 "Romeo and Juliet" and Baz Luhrmann's 1996 "William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet." Both films stay true to the themes of Shakespeare's original play. However, the modernised Luhrmann film not only maintains the essence of Shakespeare's writings, Luhrmann makes it relevant to a teenage audience. This is...show more content... Luhrmann further modernised his film adaption by altering the play's original prologue. The movie begins with a prologue made as a television broadcast. In doing this it informs the audience of the violence taking place between the two families, the Montagues and the Capulets. The prologue differs dramatically from Zeffirelli's interpretation. The 1968 version of the prologue is retold by a monotonous narrator, who simply tells the tale of the feuding families set over a milieu of an Italian city. In restructuring the prologue Luhrmann has made his interpretation of Romeo and Juliet more appealing to a teenage audience. Adolescent viewers can identify more with a modern television broadcast in comparison to a tedious monologue recital. Luhrmann's variation of the film is more suited to a teenage audience than Zeffirelli's due to the vibrant settings and modern sets utilised throughout the film. Several of these sets include the beach, high rise buildings and petrol stations. These factors are used to tempt a younger audience. Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, however takes place in a medieval Italian city. Although the original play was based and performed in this location, teenage viewers cannot relate to the surroundings, hence making it difficult to understand or appreciate the plot. The battle located at the petrol station was a more convincing setting. Teenagers would relate more to the location as various mob wars in modern times Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Romeo And Juliet Comparison Essay Romeo and Juliet Comparison It is well known that there are two different versions of the play Romeo and Juliet in motion picture. They are both mind–blowingly amazing, with basically the same plot and storyline, but they are different in so many ways. The 1968 version is harder to understand because of the lack of necessary props and costumes, yet it is the classic version, so it is usually more favorable of the two. The 1996 version should be shown to high schoolers, as it is viewed as the easier version to understand because of its more modern setting, props, costumes, and the way the characters act with one another. One of the ways the two movies are different is the contrast in props. The props in the 1996 movie are very modern and high–tech compared to the 1968 version. For example: In the 1996 movie, the characters use guns as a substitute for swords, which are used in the 1968 version. The clothing is very different as well. In the the 1996 version, the actors wore modern clothes like and astronaut costume, some ties here and there, and in Romeo's case, floral button–downs. There are also elaborate paintings and beautiful stone steps in the mansion. There are signs lighting up all over in the city, with modern–day police. There are automobiles and rock bands. This is almost the opposite of the 1968 film. This version has Stone pillars, a real Italian family tomb. Their roads are dirt roads, or made of rocks and cobblestones. There were torches instead of lights, and people got around by foot. The people used swords in place of guns, and there were no helicopters or flashing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Romeo And Juliet Comparison Essay The song "Michelle" by the Beatles and the story of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare both assist the notion of the male brain when a male becomes struck with love and how they handle their feelings in those moments. The song "Michelle" supports this idea because it exhibits portraying imagery of a French man trying to express his love to a woman, but not knowing how to do it. The man then uses his verbal gestures to speak to her in the best way he can. Likewise, Romeo and Juliet supports this idea because it expresses a character named Romeo that does his best to convey his love for Juliet but being dumbfounded and incapable of finding the right words to say. Romeo happens to be so awestruck with love that he mumbles and struggles to find the right words to win Juliet's heart....show more content... In response to love, males become dazed and struggle to get the words out to win over their lover's heart. As a French man does his best to express his love to a woman, he announces, "Until you do, I am hoping you will know what I mean" (Doc 1.). The French man happens to be so awestruck because of his love for her that he can only speak his love and nothing else. When a male comes into contact with the feeling of love, he feels as if he becomes stuck in a trance and can only speak his mind. As Romeo sets his sight upon Juliet, he loses track of his surroundings and announces, "Beauty too rich to use, for earth too dear" (Romeo and Juliet. 1.5.47). Romeo looks upon the figure that exists as Juliet and becomes transfixed because of her beauty. His only response to this feeling is to convey his love to her verbally in the best possible manner. Males also experience feelings of isolation when trying to verbally express love. Romeo declares romantically, "For my heart ne'er saw true beauty till this night" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet Essay Do you love someone? Is that someone, your spouse or significant other, or is that person one of your parents or even someone else? Well whoever it is you would most likely give something up for them, right? With love, it can be beautiful, but also love can be consequential. Obviously, you would take chances for that person, but surely some of those choices will backfire and do more harm than help. Also, if you are a secretive and keep your feelings separated from other people you care about they might start feeling like you don't actually care. Finally, love is fantastic, but the truth lies in how much you are willing to give up. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo takes many chances to be with Juliet; this including marrying...show more content... Juliet kept being in love with Romeo confidential from her parents. Soon her parents realized something was up and made her comply to marry Paris (Act 4, Scene 1). What this symbolizes is that people who care for you could and will be hurt by what you keep from them. Again Juliet acted this way out of love for Romeo. Love, the beginning is great, but then it comes to truth and true feelings on what you can give up for the person that you "love". Some people would give up time with friends or time with family. In Romeo and Juliet's case, they gave up their lives (Act 5, Scene 3). This just shows how "in love" Romeo and Juliet were. However, different people will cut out different things for the ones they love. Romeo and Juliet indeed love each other and gave up their lives for each other. Love can be the greatest feeling in the world, but also comes with unexpected consequences. The chances you take can backfire, other people in your life could start questioning the care you feel for them, and it comes down to how much you are willing to give up to gain appreciation of them. What would you surrender and what chances would you take for the one you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Romeo And Juliet Comparative Essay The two stories The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisby there are many similarities and differences. For example, they are both love stories. Which is a similarity. A example of a difference is Pyramus and Thisby never got to meet each other before their fate. Throughout the stories there are many more examples of similarities and differences. First off we will start with a difference. The first one that we have is Romeo and Juliet got married, while Pyramus and Thisby wanted to get married, but they didn't. The whole reason how Romeo and Juliet died was because of the wedding. "Here comes the lady" (Shakespeare 419). This quote is from the wedding when Juliet enters. While in the other story Pyramus and Thisby never had...show more content... Romeo and Juliet could actually communicate face to face while Pyramus and Thisbe had to talk through a wall. " So they would talk, and as the night came on and they must part, each would press on the wall kisses that would not go through the lips on the other side". (Ovid 488). This quote shows that the two would have to talk and "kiss" through the wall and could never come face to face. This was the second difference on between the two stories, now on to the similarities. The first similarities are they both killed themselves because of love. They thought one of them died so they ended their own life to be with the other. "[Snatches Romeo's dagger], This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die." (Shakespeare 475). This quote is when Juliet killed herself when she found Romeo dead. The same thing happened in the other story. This was the first similarity we had found. The next similarity is both their families were enemies. They both had a wall splitting them apart too. 'My only love sprung from my only hate." (Shakespeare 396). This quote was said by Juliet when she found out Romeo was a Montague. As you can see these details make the two stories very Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Romeo And Juliet: Comparison Of Book And Movie Romeo and juliet The time period in this movie was the complete opposite than the book. In the book there were no cars, no guns, no lights. I believe the book took place in 1303, but the movie was in the early 90's. Their swords were replaced with guns, their horses with cars. I would of felt a totally different vibe from the movie, it's newer and the dialect was still old, that didn't fit right. The prologue was said on the news. Their 'Gold' is paper money. Some of the characters are different. Romeo was a lot more chill and didn't act like a 4 year old. Mercutio was pretty cool, he was a savage at the party, he gave everyone some drugs and partied like it was 1964. Lady Capulet was also totally different, She was crazy like Mercutio at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Romeo And Juliet Compared To Today The story of Romeo and Juliet can be compared to modern lives of teenagers, by comparing their actions, personalities and emotions. Juliet never agreed with her parents and always wanted to do things her own way. Capulet and Lady Capulet where only doing their jobs as her parents to help her out. Through their eyes they where just being helpful to Juliet by finding her a suitable Husband. However Juliet disagreed with many of their ideas. These situations may resemble teens today and how they rebel against their parents even though they might only be guiding them with good judgment. Juliet chooses her words carefully while talking to Count Paris so that she doesn't commit herself to him or say that she doesn't want to be his wife. This deceiving word play is copied by teenagers in the present day. They also talk themselves out of a tuff situation by misleading whoever they are talking to. This could be with relationships, school work or teachers. Personally I find that this is common and teenagers speak in certain ways that will benefit them....show more content... • 12. Romeo And Juliet As A Comparative Essay The Atypical Woman The female protagonists of both Shakespeare's classic "Romeo and Juliet" and Forster's A Room with a View have shown themselves to be strong women in a dramatic situation revolving their relationships, as well as their own lives. Lucy Honeychurch and Juliet Capulet have qualities that demonstrate their independent thoughts, as well as their atypical beliefs for their society. While they have many similarities, they may vary in their environments and their own self–reflection. Lucy and Juliet demonstrate themselves in similar roles, with varying aspects in their interactions and personalities that impact their decisions and role in their societies. Miss Capulet, and Miss Honeychurch share many traits that shape them...show more content... Despite their similarities, the two women are different in some aspects of their personalities. For instance, Juliet is aware of her feelings for Romeo, "My only love, sprung from my only hate" (I.5.139). Meanwhile, Lucy is unaware of her feelings towards George, as well as her own feelings in general. She hides her affections for him, even to herself. "She compelled herself to confused remembrances of George: he was nothing to her; he never had been anything... The armour of falsehood is subtly wrought out of darkness, and hides a man not only from others, but from his own soul" (Forster, 150). Furthermore, Juliet appears to be passionate in her love, while Lucy appears to be the calm person in the relationship. Juliet immediately jumps to the idea of marrying Romeo after seeing him twice, meanwhile Lucy is hesitant and takes her time to figure her mind. The age difference between the two women, one being in her mid–teens, the other in her early twenties can explain the variety in their love. Alongside similar personalities, the two women face similar challenges and people in their life. They are both women who are controlled by members of their family whom are older than them. Charlotte is controlling Lucy, first as her chaperone on her trip to Italy, and then being controlled because Charlotte knew her secret, and was telling her what to do because of the kiss. • 13. Romeo And Juliet Comparison Essay In Romeo and Juliet, the death scene is truly an emotional scene compared to all parts of the movie. The book and the movie have different aspects of why this scene is the same, but also has some parts to be different. In both the movie and the book, there were parts that were on spot with similarities. One part that was very similar was when Romeo goes by Juliet's tomb and talks to her "dead" body in a monologue and afterward, both the movie and the book have Romeo drink a poison where he talks about how strong the potion is. When Juliet wakes up, for both, Juliet does not want to leave her tomb because of the fact she did not see Romeo until she looks around and finally sees him. To that, she stabs herself with a dagger to be with Romeo...show more content... In the book, I was having an image and knew that the capulets were in a tomb together and were going to be closed in, but in the movie, Juliet and Tybalt are on separate beds and also, they are not even close to a tomb, Juliet is just lying there with sheer sheet on top of her. I cannot come to a conclusion to why the movie would do this differently, but if I made a guess it would be because Juliet is a special character and to make sure we knew where she was especially they wanted her to look different from everyone else by putting her under a spotlight, covering her with a special cloth, and also keeping her separate from Tybalt. Also, in the book, there are all these other characters that were mentioned in the book, but most of them were taken out like, Page, Paris, Friar John, etc. To the people directing the movie, I found it right to take out all these characters because most of them were not important. Even though Paris is important in the book, I did not like to see another person die from their feud. To have Paris out of the scene in the movie I felt with this scene was more sad with romance, but when Paris is in it I feel like that is taken Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Romeo And Juliet Comparative Essay Could there ever be a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that is as powerful and moving as the original play by William Shakespeare? Some people say that Romeo + Juliet, a film adaptation made in 1996 by Baz Luhrmann, is as good as the original. Some people disagree with that statement. The argument will be settled within this essay, as the similarities between the film and the play are laid out. The narrative and film techniques that the director used in the final scene brought dramatic and emotional feelings to the tragic death of the "star–crossed lovers" (Prologue, line 6). __Luhrmann keeps the characters of Romeo and Juliet mostly the same, keeping Romeo's sensitive and impulsive personality, along with Juliet's naГЇve and willing–to–do–anything–to–have–what–her–heart–desires...show more content... He was in a very dark room that represented him and the actions he just showed. He then found the tomb that Juliet was in. The entire tomb was filled with light, which Romeo compared her with throughout the whole time he knew her. He says when he sees her, "For here lies Juliet, and her beauty makes This vault a feasting presence full of light" (Act 5, Scene 3, lines 85–86). When he got to Juliet, there was so much candlelight surrounding her, and she was wearing a white dress, which both symbolized her angelicness and her purity. However a fair amount of prior knowledge is required for Taylor Swift's version as it doesn't provide the same as Baz's adaptation. Although the films appeared more alluring and may be slightly easier to follow, they left out some major parts. The play had better plot details and the original Shakespearian language which made it much more interesting and by far a better representation of the story. This essay will prove why the original play should be taught to English students over all film versions. One major difference between the play script and the movie occurs in the plot. This leads the viewers to believe that two lacked maturity which is a completely different to what Shakespeare originally wanted to portray, instead it portrays that they could not do anything the way it is normally done because they are children in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
