2. What is a smart City?
A smart city is an integration of technology into a strategic
approach to sustainability.21st century has brought with it a new
global trend of “sustainable urban development” and this concept
adds new dimension to urbanization which require a quick need to
upgrade existing cities.The concept of smart City is a relatively new
one.
1. Need for smart city?
• By 2030,60% of world’s population is expected to live in cities
which results in heavy strain on energy,
transportation,water, building and public spaces.
• Increasing need is being felt for smart city which are both
efficient and sustainable.
3. 2.OBJECTIVES-:
• Adequate water supply
• Adequate electricity sample
• Affordable housing, especially for the Poor’s
• Health and education
• Robust IT connectivity and digitalization
4. 3.Policies and investment for smart
cities in India
• JNNURM
• National Mission Mode Projects
• Smart cities will be operated at a central funded scheme
and it processes to give 48,000 crore over 5 years.
• On an average of 100 crore per city per annum and equal
amount will be contributed by state , therefore nearly 1
lakh crore of government funds will be available for
smart city development.
5. 4.INDICATORS :-
• Smart People:-Level of qualifications, flexibility to
get more opportunities, knowledge about the
policies and schemes launched by government.
• Smart economy:-Indicators like entrepreneurship ,
productivity , self-employment rate , GDP per
person.
• Smart governance:-Efficient Government Services
such as e- governance policies , Smart energy ,
Smart grid.
• Smart living:-Build intelligent building management
systems , which will help save up to 30%of water
usage,40% of energy usage etc.
6. 5.INFERENCE:-
• The smart cities mission requires smart people who
actively participate in governance and reforms.
• Trying to evolve the public to help determine the
order of development has been difficult and time
consuming.
7. • CONCLUSION:-
The emergency of the idea of the Smart City ought to
be seen in the backdrop of the need to contain
corruption and meet the requirements of the
adequate & efficient service delivery technologies as
using information and digital technologies .The
success of the programmes will be judged by its
power to transform the life of the people.
