In mymediaproductionIwill be referencingfew othertexts.These textsshare greatsimilaritieswith
whatI will be tryingto produce - yetwill notbe too prominentlyobviousasitcoulddeprive the
creativityandoriginality frommyownmusicvideo.
The firstreference willbe tothe 1999 AmericanTV show ‘Freaksand Geeks’.The show followsa
groupof teenagersgoingthroughhighschool.The maincharacter,Lindsay,constantlytriestofind
herself insocietybyattemptingdifferentactivates,findingnew friendsanddeviatingfromher
normal life.Aswell asthis,the groupsrepresentedinthe show clearlygenerate theirownidentities.
These identitiescanbe identifiedthroughtheirclothing,whichisthe ideathatIwill be takingon
board withmyvideo.The charactersinthe narrative will be wearingclothingtoconnote different
ideas(heavilyexplainedinmy‘Costumes’ blogpost).Anexample beingof how the clothingwornby
the male (me) will connote anattempttobe part of societal culture. Alternatively, how the clothing
wornby the female will expressmore of arelaxedpopularityandexpressioninsociety.Overall,this
intertextualreferenceisn’tstrictlyfoundedbythe TV show ‘Freaksand Geeks’ yet itgivesa prime
example of howthismethodof usingclothingtoconnote ideascanbe effective inmediatexts.
Anotherreferencewillbe toinceptionandthe implementationof atokento illustrate timeand
continuums.Regardlessof the ‘dream’aspect,Iwill construct atimelinewiththe use of anewtons
cradle.To do thisI will presentashot of the newtons cradle beingsetatthe start of the videoto
create an enigmatictimestamp,tothenat the endof the videohave the male character(me) stop
the motionof the cradle to developastrongof control or recapping.The overall intertextual
reference isquite vague,yetitillustrateshow atimeline caneasilybe manipulatedthrougha

To conclude,these referenceswere thoughtfullychosentobenefitmymusicvideoandthe narrative
that isdesiredtobe constructed.Seeingevidence inothertexts givesjustificationforwhatIwold
like toachieve nomatterif the connotationisvague or replicated.Inturn,generatingafinal product
that showsgreatunderstandingof otherinfluences.
