Deltarune is a turn-based bullet hell game where you control Kris and interact with friends and enemies through the story. The game subverts expectations by revealing the player is not truly in control of Kris but a puppet. When battling, the background simplifies to better see characters and effects show who is targeted. Toby Fox created the game alone, including music, art, and scripting, in an impressive feat. The game's community creates expansive fan content, charming players with its funny writing and characters.
2. Deltarune is a turned based bullet hell game where you control the character
named Kris, which his family/friends are all animal/monster like characters.
And in this game, you go through this story with kris and his interactions with
another enemy’s. but choose to be a bully/murderer and get the worst
endings but choose to be good, then you get a good ending. But the hole
twist of this game is that you're not actually in control of Kris, but a puppet
within a puppet which is soon to break out of his cage.
When Kris enters a battle in this game, the hole background turns into a
simplified background, which is most of the time it's dark so that you can see
the characters in better details. They also fade out certain characters as well.
This is to show who is getting attacked or who the enemy is aiming towards.
And they also have a lot of cool effects as well to show.
The maker of Deltarune goes by the name of Toby Fox which he
made the hole game himself, to both music, animation, scripting
and the art styles were made by Temmie Chang and Kanotynes,
which for toby fox to make this game by himself is super
impressive. (this would have taken a long time)
I really like the font used for
deltarune because it's mysterious
and the heart in the A is a nice touch
because you also play as a heart
which is your soul in this game.
This game has a huge community which is filled with fan
made animations, art, music etc. and it gives a nice charm
when you play the game with very funny story writing and
just amazing characters which this is what gets people to
buy this game.
3. Final Fantasy
Final fantasy is about a character named Cloud who wants to kill a god named Sephiroth who's just really your everyday
bad guy and you go on an adventure to stop Sephiroth (I got no idea what this game is about and there's like 12 games so
I'm kind of basing it where the character Cloud is relevant which is in final fantasy 7) the reason why I want to talk about
this game is the use of dialogue text. I really do like the style for both the dialogue text and the selections that you use to
attack your enemy's. It really stands out and it's very easy to read it when it stands out a lot as well. And the sprites from
the older games are good and creative (my sprites won't look like this but will sort of more capabilities to move.
The design for the slightly newer games are also
unique as well because it's not every day you
see polygon like characters in any sort of game
(but this was only because this was when 3D
games were getting better) and the way the
camera turns around the player and the
enemies in the 3D versions of final fantasy make
it so much more enjoyable to appreciate the
game you're playing.
And for both games, the effects they
would use would also be clever, for
the pixel versions, it would be your
standard frame animations, but the
3D models would try to do their best
to have like smoke effects, hit effects,
burning damage etc.
For the brand-new final fantasy games,
they are more of an appeal to people
who have played the other final fantasy
games. And it dose change from a
turned base to RPG type of game (so
meaning you don’t get to wait to attack,
you can do it whenever and so can the
enemy) but the new games are utterly
stunning which will 100% draw people if
they are into these types of games.
The makers of final fantasy was made by Hironobu Sakaguchi
and his company named Square Enix.
4. Pokémon is a good example of turned based action games due to its massive cast of Pokémon you can collect and the
many different unique Pokémon's you can use in battle. With it being turned based and bring in elements to the game.
Which a good example to understand these elements if by their weakness and strengths.
Pokémon is a game about magical monsters that live with humans and battle for “sport” with other trainers. And in the games, you play as a
protagonist that you either can change or can't change (depending on what version you play) and are set on an adventure to be the Pokémon
master! Which you could meet friends along the way of your journey or easy rivals (every Pokémon game has a rival which got easier as of
every new Pokémon game sadly).
For now, ill base the Pokémon Heart Gold Version for now due to it being the only pixel Pokémon game I've played. But the style on this game
is good when it comes to it, from the shading of every sprite, the Pokémon when they battle, even the battle GUI is amazing due to the colour
they use for the dialogue boxes, the icons to show what you want your Pokémon to do like FIGHT and it's just the small things that make this
game truly appealing really. And I also really like the birds eye point of view you get when you're not in a Pokémon battle which allows you to
see a lot more around you (shame you can't turn your camera around). For target audience? Everyone by now knows Pokémon but for people
who don’t know this game (somehow) then they would get charmed over by the unique designs of each Pokémon going from both cute to
cool.
The person who made
Pokémon goes by the
name Satoshi Tajiri
which he works for
Nintendo so there's a
lot of people now
working on Pokémon.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? They are all turned based or
have all had retro themes into their game.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work? More the Deltarune
research and maybe a bit of both of Pokémon
and final fantasy for layout or text boxes ideas.
7. Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
13-18 • The design that I trying to aim is quite more
like deltarune and a lot of people around
this age do enjoy this type of content.
Gender
Mostly Boys/men • It’s a fantasy animation with characters
about to beat each other up, if that isn’t a
boy thing then I don’t know what is.
Psychographic
Emulator • They type of people might really enjoy my
game because the goal will make them
achieve something.
Social Status
Working class • If this was a game, it would most likely be
free since my plans for sound effects will be
used from another game.
