Haag-Streit UK has recently launched
the Optovue SOLIX FullRange in the
UK. SOLIX is new technology built upon
a proven foundation of high-speed
Spectral Domain OCT. The FullRange
platform empowers practitioners
to identify and manage numerous
pathologies from the front of the eye to
the back for a vastly superior diagnostic
experience.
SOLIX features ultra-high-speed
scanning for a FullRange field of view
that is wide and deep, yet does not
sacrifice image clarity and resolution.
SOLIX delivers multiple tools for a new
generation of disease management
that improves throughput and enables
superior patient care;
• FullRange anterior segment
imaging to capture the entire
anterior chamber in a single scan

2. Haag-Streit UK and John Weiss
have just been appointed joint
UK distributors for the HEINE
Omega 500 LED Binocular Indirect
Ophthalmoscope (BIO) and the HSL
150 hand-held slit lamp.
The Omega 500 BIO offers unique
synchronised adjustment of
convergence, allowing high-quality,
stereoscopic fundus images through
any pupil size. The multi-coated
illumination system ensures excellent
optical performance and the exact
vertical alignment of the illumination
with the observation path minimises
the reflections.
Due to the mounting of the optics
on an aluminium frame, the OMEGA
500 is solid, long lasting and is
guaranteed to be dustproof. The HC
50L Headband Rheostat controls the
LED illumination, as well as the XHL
Xenon-Halogen illumination.
Designed for comfort and ergonomics,
the system offers height, distance and
angle positioning for the optics. The
independent interpupillary adjustment
and ergonomic control placement
allows for a customised fit and intuitive
operation.
The HSL 150 is a hand-held slit lamp for
examination of the anterior segment.
Compact and lightweight, it is ideal for
situations where a full-size slit lamp is
not available.
Suitable for both human and veterinary
medicine, the slit lamp can be used
for domiciliary visits. It is perfect for
those who cannot comfortably sit at
a slit lamp, such as wheelchair-bound
patients.
Haag-Streit UK & John Weiss appointed joint UK Distributors for the HEINE
range of primary diagnostic instruments
The HSL 150 offers a continuous slit
adjustment, 6 x magnification and
a blue interference filter for corneal
examination. The lightest slit lamp of
its kind, the instrument head weighs
in at just 70g.
John Weiss has also been granted
distributorship for the HEINE range of
loupes and headlights.
The range, which includes the ML4
LED Headlight and the LoupeLight2,
offer optimal LED illumination, a wide
range of magnification options and
a lightweight professional design for
fatigue-free working.

4. Haag-Streit UK launch the Ellex Eye Prime diagnostic
ultrasound system in the UK
HS-UK has recently launched the Eye
Prime diagnostic ultrasound system in
the UK.
The Eye Prime is the next generation
ultrasound solution from Ellex. It
features the industry’s first and only Six-
Ring Phased Annular Array Technology,
delivering crisp, high-definition images
and optimised focal point accuracy.
This transforms the view of even the
finest ocular structures, enabling the
clinician to view, diagnose and treat
more accurately and efficiently.
Eye Prime’s Six-Ring Phased Annular
Array Technology transmits and
receives ultrasound waves from six
concentric transducers, which can be
individually pulsed. This technology
enables fine focus adjustment through
a wide range of depths in 1mm
increments, thereby enabling you
to focus anywhere in the posterior
segment and beyond.
The system delivers unparalleled levels
of accuracy,flexibility and image quality.
It refocuses the beam transmission at
a wide range of depths, optimising the
resolution at each pixel and extending
the depth-of-field at each focal point,
to deliver real-time, dynamic imaging.
Available modes include; 12 MHz &
18 MHz B-Scan and 35 MHz & 50 MHz
UBM. Matched with Ellex’s proprietary
Reflex Technology platform, the
ultrasound system also represents the
perfect partnership for the visualisation
and treatment of symptomatic floaters.
In 12 MHz mode, the large aperture,
localised Time Gain Compensation
(TGC) settings and deep focusing all
combine to ensure that visualisation
of subtle targets, such as vitreous
membranes and opaque collagen
clusters, are presented and defined in
superior detail. In 18 MHz mode you can
tailor sensitivity and resolution across
posterior pathology. Exquisite detail
throughout the posterior segment
reveals unsurpassed imaging of the
retina, optic nerve and extraocular
muscle.
The option of 35 MHz and 50 MHz UBM
modes enables the user to choose the
resolution and penetration tailored for
the application - and to view the entire
anterior segment with less refraction.
Jacqui Kenyon, HS-UK Product
Manager, said, “We are really excited to
introduce the Ellex Eye Prime to the UK
market. Ultrasonography plays a critical
role in diagnostic ophthalmology, and
the system’s breakthrough diagnostic
ultrasound technology will be a huge
benefit to any eyecare professional
when evaluating pathology of the eye.”

high-quality speciality surgical
products, World-wide. With a focus on
single-use products for vitreoretinal
surgery, its range of speciality
cannulas includes; General, Soft Tip,
Dual Bore, Silicone Oil and Subretinal.
MedOne offer Soft Tip Cannulas which

tips allowing gentle access to the
retina. They are ideal for aspiration of
fluid from on or beneath the surface
of the retina.
Dual Bore Cannulas are designed
for injection of a liquid such as
perfluorocarbon (PFCL) or staining
dye, while allowing simultaneous
egress of BSS to relieve pressure
build up. This increases patient safety,
enabling easy use of surgical liquids
while controlling IOP.
Silicone Oil Cannulas facilitate the
process of viscous fluids injection
and removal from the eye. The self-
retaining feature in the MedOne
infusion cannulas allows bimanual
surgery during oil fill, in small gauge
cases. Subretinal Cannulas allow safe
penetration of the retina to either drain
subretinal fluid or to inject medication.

New Medical Device
Regulation to come into
force in May 2020
The new European Medical Devices
Regulation (MDR) EU 2017/745 is
coming into force from 26th May
2020.
As a result,Haag-Streit UK and John
Weiss & Son are in the process of
transferring the certificates from
the Medical Device Directive (MDD)
93/42/EEC to the new regulation.
Both company’s products will
continue to be supported with
existing MDD certification until the
end of the validity period stated on
each certificate.
During the transition overlap
period, our Notified Body (NB) will
support both the existing MDD
and the new MDR. The MDR NB
designation process is underway
and it is expected that this process
will be complete by the end of April
2020.
HS-UK and John Weiss & Son are
carrying out significant work to
address changes in classifications
of products and compliance. We
are also working closely with our
NB to ensure minimal disruption in

sclera (if evisceration is chosen) or the
eye socket (if enucleation is chosen).
Either procedure may be used to treat
a variety of issues, including; trauma,
infection, neoplasm and painful blind
eye.
The implant is not visible, but maintains
and provides the natural structure of
the orbit, supporting the artificial eye.
The sphere has machined grooves
and a hole through the centre to
allow an additional peg to be fitted for
suspension of an artificial iris and to aid
motility.
The porous nature of the acrylic
Globes enables fibrovascular ingrowth,
increasing mobility and allowing
implantation for long-term use, usually
for the life of the patient.
