The Haag-Streit UK Service Division will
continue to repair equipment at our
purpose-built service workshops in
Harlow.
Where possible, Haag-Streit UK’s
Field Service Engineers will continue
to service equipment and prioritise
responses to emergency breakdowns
on customer premises. Of course,
we will continue to provide remote
technical support to all our customers.
Although Haag-Streit UK and John
Weiss are presently not experiencing
any stock issues or delays in deliveries
within the UK, of course, the entire
global supply chain has been impacted
due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which
has led to some disruption in shipping
products Worldwide.Thus, some delays
are expected and we will endeavour
to keep all International customers
regularly updated with estimated
arrival times.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank our customers for their continued
support at this difficult time. And on
behalf of both John Weiss and Haag-
Streit UK, I would also like to express

As we continue to monitor the latest
updates and information about
the global Coronavirus (COVID-19)
outbreak, we have taken numerous
measures to ensure we safeguard
the health of Haag-Streit UK and John
Weiss employees.
All staff who can perform their
jobs from home, and do not have
to be in our Harlow office, are now
working remotely to minimise any
potential virus transmission between
employees.
Haag-Streit UK has also implemented
a plan to remove non-operations
personnel from operating areas
to further protect the health of
our assembly-line operators who
are needed on-site to enable
the continued running of our
manufacturing processes.
Both companies have adopted
travel restrictions for the safety of
both employees and customers,
consistent with travel guidance by
the WHO. This is, however, affecting
on-site customer visits by our Sales
Teams for the time being.

Son launch dedicated
COVID-19 web pages
HS-UK and JohnWeiss have launched
dedicated COVID-19 web pages, in
response to the global Coronavirus
outbreak.
The COVID-19 web pages contain a
summary of company statements,
helpful resources and educational
material, which have been produced
to support customers through the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Both companies have released
official statements on business
operations, which outline how
we are safeguarding the health of
employees and customers, while
preserving the ability to operate and
supply at this time.
The pages also contain up-to-
date guidelines on the cleaning
and disinfection of equipment and
instruments.

2. HS-UK is an authorised UK distributor
for the HEINE OMEGA 500 binocular
indirect ophthalmoscope.
The OMEGA 500 is a unique
synchronised optical system that
provides stereoscopic viewing
in a range of pupil sizes. With a

In response to the COVID-19
pandemic, Haag-Streit has
developed an effective breath
shield for the Lenstar 900 biometer,
which protects both the ophthalmic
professional working at close
range and the patient, since both
are exposed to possible droplet
infection, when sneezing or
breathing.
Clinicians can create the breath
shield inexpensively by using the
free template, which is available

3. HS-UK is excited to announce the
launch of Scribd and SlideShare
social media channels.
Scribd is described as ‘The Worlds
Largest Digital Library’. The HS-UK
Scribd profile gives users access
to all of the brochures, guides
and leaflets for Haag-Streit’s gold-
standard products. It also features
brochures for all the leading brands
that HS-UK distributes, including;

Haag-Streit releases easy-
to-follow disinfection
guidelines during COVID-19
pandemic
HS-UK has produced easy-to-follow
disinfection guidelines for all Haag-
Streit products, to assist Clinicians
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is obviously always important to
properly clean ophthalmic diagnostic
devices after each exam. Haag-Streit
recommends that the cleaning and
disinfection guide contained in the
instructions for use is followed for
each of its devices.
This small daily cleaning and
disinfection routine can have a big
impact on both the Clinician and the
Patient’s health, especially now.
The COVID-19 pandemic has dictated
an even greater need for eye care
professionals to adopt thorough,
regular cleaning and disinfection
procedures, and these easy-to-follow
instructions have been developed to
simplify the process and help reduce
the spread of the virus.
There are guidelines for many of the
Haag-Streit products, including the;
Haag-Streit Slit Lamp range, LENSTAR
900 biometer and Octopus 900 and
Octopus 600 perimeters. There are
also guidelines for slit lamp imaging
equipment, including the; FM 300, IM
600 and IM 900.

4. Haag-Streit Diagnostics launches ‘Slit Lamp Imaging
Competition 2020’
HS-UK is pleased to announce the
launch of the Haag-Streit Diagnostics’
‘Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2020’.
Haag-Streit slit lamps are renowned
for their optical brilliance and are
capable of capturing the most stunning
clinical images. The ‘Slit Lamp Imaging
Competition 2020’ gives eyecare
professionals across the globe an
opportunity to showcase their slit lamp
imaging skills.
The judging of the best photograph will
be based on image quality, technical
execution and disease interest. There
are fantastic prizes for each of the
top three images, with the winner of
the competition receiving a Fuji X100V
camera, (with a wide-angle conversion,
tele conversion lens) and the coveted
‘Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2020’
award.The top 12 entries will all feature
in the 2021 Haag-Streit Diagnostics
calendar.
This is the 2nd year that Haag-Streit
Diagnostics has run this competition.
Last year’s winner was Pia Lori from
Switzerland, who captured a superbly
executed and perfectly composed
picture of the ‘Lente Globos’ (see
image).

Haag-Streit Group purchase
the majority stake in
VRmagic
The Haag-Streit Group has recently
acquired a majority stake in the
innovative company, VRmagic.
VRmagic was established in 2001 and
is a pioneer for virtual and augmented
reality technology in medical training.
The solutions developed by VRmagic
permit a realistic and dynamic
simulation of both examinations of, and
operations on, the eye.
In 2018 Haag-Streit Diagnostics
and VRmagic developed a digital
microscope head for the eye
surgical simulator Eyesi®. The virtual
reality simulator offers prospective
eye surgeons a realistic training
environment.
By acquiring a majority stake in
VRmagic, the Haag-Streit Group
is expanding its offering for

5. Haag-Streit UK launches FREE online slit lamp course
The ‘Slit Lamp Imaging’ sub-course
focuses on the skills necessary to
achieve superior results in the complex
field of ophthalmic imaging. The ‘Slit
Lamp Exam’ structured training video
series will help reinforce the knowledge
gained in the two interactive modules.
Finally, the ‘EyeSuite Slit Lamp Imaging
User Guides’, provide information
about using the EyeSuite i9.3.0.0
software platform in conjunction with
Haag-Streit imaging slit lamps and
imaging modules.

has been forced to cancel or postpone
a number of its courses, workshops
and masterclasses, due to the global

Cancelled education events include

Basic Course, HS-UK Slit Lamp
Photographer’s BX900 Masterclass
and the HS-UK Octopus 900 Perimetry
Expert User Training Course. We have
taken the decision to cancel these
events in order to minimise the risk to
both delegates and staff, but we hope
to reschedule new dates for either
later in the year, or early 2021.

Meridian, and subsidiary company
Valon, have been offering innovative
laser systems for eye care professionals
for over 35 years. A range of lasers is
