The document provides steps for creating a movie poster using Photoshop and Fireworks. It describes opening background and foreground images, adjusting histograms to modify lighting, cropping and blurring parts of the background, erasing unwanted areas, and using selection tools to isolate characters on white backgrounds. The character image is then copied and scaled on top of the background. Text is added for the title, tagline, and company. An age rating symbol is also copied and isolated.
2. First you need to open up
your first chosen image into
Jasc Paint Shop Pro this
should be the background
image that you want for
your poster.
3. Then you need to make the
image more dynamic; to do this
we need to change the light and
the dark scale, to do this we
need to change the Histogram.
To access this you need to go to
‘Adjust’ and then to ‘Hue and
Contrast’ and then click on
‘Histogram Adjustment’ then all
you have to do it to change the
position of the triangles by
clicking and then dragging them
into different positions.
4. This should make your
image darker/ or the
opposite lighter to the
speciation that you
want, if not you can
always redo the
contrast, by readjusting
the histogram.
5. You then need to crop
down the image, to do
this you need to find
the crop button, and
then to select the part
that you want by
clicking and then
dragging to select the
area.
6. You then need to add a
layer on top of this
image; but it has to be
the same image, to do
this you find on the top
‘Layers’ and then click
‘Duplicate’.
7. The next step that we should do is to
blur part of the background this
will then make it easier to draw
attention to anything that is not
blurred and the image in the
foreground.
To do this you must scroll across the
top until you get to ‘Adjust’ and
then go to ‘Blur’ and then
‘Gaussian Blur’ here you will have
to pick how blurred the image will
become.
Make sure it is not too blurred as you
still need to be able to identify
what the shapes are in the
foreground.
8. The next thing that needs
to be done is to do the
erasing.
Here all you need to do is
to click on the erase tool
and then click and drag
over the parts that you
want clear, this will then
help to draw the eye into
certain particular areas.
9. How that you have
blurred the parts of
the image that you
want; we now have to
get the second
image; that when
combined will create
the final image.
10. With the second photo
you preferably need
an image with a
person on it, or you
could add layer of
foliage but you need
a person of interest
on the cover.
11. To make the image as
dynamic as the
background you
need to sdjust the
histogram of the
image (the ratio
between black and
white pixels) this is
shown on slide 3 of
the presentation.
12. To be able to get the
best image you then
need to open up
Macromedia
Fireworks; this will
allow you to be able to
combine the images
and to edit the image
with your character
better than using JASC
Paint Shop Pro.
13. For this you will need to
open your editted
image of your
character as well as
the background
image, but for the
moment we will be
editing the character
photograph.
14. For this you will need to click on
the magic wand tool this will be
able to select parts of the
image the same shape colour
so that it can be deleted in a
sharper and quicker way than
using the eraser tool.
Once you have selected the tool
you will have to can the
Tolerance of the ‘Magic Wand’
so that you don’t delete a part
that you want to use, with this
select and delete everything
apart from your character
15. While you are deleting the parts
of the image the background
will start to become white and
grey squares; this is fine as it
just is indicating that there is
not background in this part of
the image.
Any part that you select with the
‘Magic wand’ will come up with
little moving dashes to undo
the line just click on the
selected area to get rid of the
lines
16. Once you have finished
deleting your
background it should
look a little like
this, with only the
character remaining.
The next step is to copy
this image so that we
can then put it onto
the background
photograph.
17. You need to paste the
character image on top
of the background;
here you can see that
the character is
surrounded by a blue
line, by using this you
can either make the
character’s image
bigger or smaller have
it in scale with the
background.
18. To add the text you need to select the
text icon at the side of the page; to
place one on your images you just
click and drag were you want it
positioned; to change the size of the
text you look at the bottom of the
screen and from there you can change
the size and the font e.c.t. For the text
you will need to put in your
title, tagline and the company
information at the bottom of the
image.
You will then need to add an image that
contains the age rating symbol all you
need to do is to copy and paste the
image from Google (of the correct age
band) and then to use the ‘Magic
Wand’ to remove the surrounding
white to the age rating so that you are
left with the clear circle
