Mainly based on understanding of DNA sequences.
Scientist With the help of of biotechnology have developed solutions
to increase agriculture productivity, nutritional quality, make crop
resistance to insect and pest , had developed some variety of crops
that can be grown in harsh weather.
5. Methods used in agriculture

Genetic engineering
Also called as genetic modification and genetic
manipulation.
It is a process in which the genetic makeup of a
plant or livestock can be altered by using
“recombinant DNA technology”.
Recombinant DNA technology- It is a series of
procedure that is used to join DNA segment.In this
recombinant DNA is constructed.
Using this technology we are able to get
genetically modified crops such as Bt-cotton etc.
6. MOLECULAR MARKERS
It is a fragment of DNA that is associated within a certain
location within the genome.
It is particularly used to identify a particular sequence of DNA
in a pool of unknown DNA.
Some commonly used molecular markers are –
1. RFLP(Restriction fragment length polymorphism)
2. SSLP(Simple sequence length polymorphism)
3. AFLP(Amplified fragment length polymorphism)
7. MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS
These are the method used
to detect gene that are very
precise and specific.
It is used in agriculture to
more accurately diagnose
crop or livestock disease.
By using this technique we
can grow disease free plant
material.

Biotechnology have derived some
vaccines that are used for
livestock to treat them by keeping
in mind the the concept of
biotechnology.
Biotechnology have made the
vaccines cheap , better, safe and
stable at room temperature.
10. Tissue culture In plant
It is the technique of growing plant Tissue in an artificial
medium in which they can continue growing and function
properly.
The plants that results are clone of original one.
Advantages
1. Many copies of same plant can be produced in less space.
2. Plant can be produced throughout the year regardless of the
weather conditions
3. Helps to eliminate disease and infection.
Plant made using tissue culture are pineapple, mango etc.
