A potted history of me, my qualifications and background which, when combined, give you a dynamic, results-driven and highly competent instructor. Has anyone else successfully combined PPL ground training with English language teaching? I'm sure I am not unique. There are pilots, teachers and engineers. But I am sure that there are few teachers out there that can combine all these skills and personal experiences and use them for the development of others.

1. Grahame Mark Hedger
Born: 22.03.1959
Hornchurch, England

2. A brief history…the nuts and bolts era
Gained my engineering background at Lucas
Industries as an auto electrician and diesel
technician. Also worked with Ford motors

3. …suits, computers and people
Swapping boiler suits for two-piece suits, I worked with some of the
world’s largest companies in sales, customer services and administration,
with basic computer programming (pre-windows!).

4. …the solo era
One of the growing band of entrepreneurs in Britain’s early ‘80s, I
had a succession of small businesses in sectors as diverse as
cleaning, building and merchandise. Sadly, I was never to become
a millionaire!
It was during this period that I realised my ultimate dream and
learned to fly, in this very aircraft – a Piper PA-28 160, G-ATVO

5. …the new millennium
From SCUBA instructor to specialist
English language teacher. Drawing
upon my past experiences allows
me to conduct highly engaging
classes as a competent language
and technical instructor in aviation,
engineering and customer services.

7. Achievements to-date 1
Air Astana
 Developed new English training material for flight and cabin crew, engineering
and dispatch
 Implemented bi-annual pilot assessment program
 Developed and introduced ICAO 9835 content-based training material,
enabling over 300 pilots to attain Level 4 or above
 Pivotal in the selection and establishment of local ICAO LPR Test Centre
 Completed first ab initio English training program with 100% success rate

Kazakhstan Academy of Civil Aviation
 Set up the first Aviation English program at the Kazakhstan Civil Aviation
Academy
 Incorporated PPL ground instruction with English language training
 Presented teacher training seminars to local, English speaking teaching staff
 Weekly progress reports to the Academy Rector and Air Astana liaison officer
 Worked closely with Patria representatives – the chosen flight school of my
graduates

9. Achievements to-date 3
BAE Systems/SDT
 2 years training Royal Saudi Air Force Tornado engineers
 Developed an aircraft-specific technical course, focusing on essential
vocabulary in context, in response to a request from BAE Systems
 Delivered familiarization training to non-aviation/engineer experienced
teaching staff in order that they could conduct my course

Immerse Learning/Air France
 Online language coaching with Air France pilots
 Group sessions and 1-1
 Identifying areas where a student can make improvements and presenting
suitable remedial material accordingly

2013- February2014.
From period August- October 2013 GrahameHedger has trained twelve
Academy’s students for his further studyin Patria Flight School in Finland.
Subsequentlythesestudents havebeen obtained ICAO level4 and ICAO level5
in Finland CAA.
From period November 2013- February2014 hehas trained for ten flight
instructor candidates, thereafter onlyseven persons had successfullypassed
selection for further studyin Patria.
