1. Introduction
Earth was filled with many natural resources. among them some resources would be exhausted
after a particular period. so I need to use other alternative resources. This alternative resource is
called renewable energy sources.bio gas is one of the renewable energy sources. Bio gas was eco
friendly and production was also easy.
Biogas
Biogas is produced from organic matter. This organic matter is digested in the anaerobic condition.
Then they produce bio gas. Biogas predominantly contains methane (55%) and carbon dioxide
(45%).
Materials for biogas production
Animal wastes, plant wastes and water. plant wastes are cut into small pieces. that helps for easy
decomposition.
Biogas production
4 stages are involved in the biogas production. They are hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis
and methanogenesis. Several bacterias would be involved in the process.
● Hydrolysis is the first method. Animal wastes and plant wastes are dumped in the one
place.
● Then water should be added. then water should be mixed well with waste materials.
● In this hydrolysis process large organic molecules are broken down and will produce the
simple molecules like simple sugars, amino acids and fatty acids. Several microorganisms
are involved in this process.
● The next step is acidogenesis. In this process acidogenic microorganisms are involved.
They make the simple molecules further decomposition.
● At the end of this process, important acids are processed.
● After that these acids further decompose with the help of methane producing bacteria.
Finally methane and carbon dioxide are produced.
Design of Biogas plant
A biogas plant is most important for biogas production. Several biogas plant designs are
available . Among them Khadi and Village Industries Commission design (KVIC) and
Deenbandhu design was most popular.
KVIC design
KVIC biogas plant has two important parts. They are digesters and gas holders.
Digester
The digester should be constructed below the ground. The depth and diameter of the digester
depends on the volume of gas generation. Two pipes are connected with a digester. One was an
inlet pipe and the other one was an outlet. Inlet tank and out let tank constructed above the ground.
Waste materials and water are mixed in the inlet tank. This is called slurry. Then they go to the
digester chamber. After the digestion these unwanted things go through the outlet pipe.
Gas holder
2. Gas holder constructed above the digester chamber and it has a cylinder shape. After digestion
biogas would be stored here . Pipe line connection provided here for use.
Deenbandhu design
Deenabandhu design was a fixed dome type biogas plant. Inlet tank constructed above the
ground. A digester chamber constructed below ground with the help of brick masonry and concrete
are present in this bio gas plant. Outlet also provides for disposing the digested slurry.
Bio gas plant is constructed with government subsidy. That gives a good way to manage the waste
materials. And it saves the money of the farmers.
