The document argues that explicitly practicing PDCA allows one to systematically incorporate continuous learning into business operations and everyday life, like Toyota has done through its improvement katas.
The document discusses the Improvement Kata as a framework for continuous process improvement. It describes the Improvement Kata as having four steps: 1) understand the direction of needed process improvement, 2) understand the current condition of the process, 3) establish a target condition for the process, and 4) use PDCA cycles to experiment towards the target condition. It then outlines the roles of the learner (process owner), coach, second coach, and team members in applying the Improvement Kata. The goal is to transform companies from a culture of reacting to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Health and Wellness in the Dairy Sector: How to use this to your Brand's Adva...HMT18
On Wednesday 15th February, 2012 Neal Cavalier-Smith teamed up with Phillip Siebrecht, Group Brand Manager Wellbeing from the Emmi Group to discuss Capitalising on “Soft Claims” in the Dairy Sector at the FoodNews® Dairy NPD Conference.
Even though the dust is beginning to settle in the wake of EFSA regulation, Health Claim implications on marketing strategy continues to be much talked about in the food industry.
As Neal observed in his presentation, one very large dairy success story has been the $700m growth of sales from US Greek yogurt company Chobani – a success acquired without using a health claim!
This gives us heart that there is more to marketing milk than what you can pour into it! Below is a link to download Neal’s presentation and to view it on slide share.
The calorie intake at the poverty line in India increased from 2,170 kcal in 1977-78 to 1,820 kcal in 2004-05. Cereal consumption per capita per month increased from 1.2 kg to over 100 kg from the lowest to highest income households. However, rising food prices from 2004 to 2008 increased poverty as the retail price of rice went up 46% and wheat 62%. While some districts claimed high poverty without a full survey, it was noted that allowing this for some could lead other districts to make similar unsupported claims. A NSS report found that in 2004-05, the percentage of rural families owning electric fans varied from 10% in poorer states to 70% in richer states, with most

The ordinance also gives the code enforcement department the authority to respond to complaints and issues of noncompliance.
Geoff Mulgan is recognized internationally as a leading speaker on social innovation and its successful realization. Very familiar with the pinch of austere budgets in the UK, Geoff will discuss the opportunities society has to overcome the barriers that fiscal challenges present to innovation.
Following the 2008 global financial crisis Geoff laid out the challenges ahead during his 2009 TED Talk: “I think what connects the challenge for business, the challenge for government and the challenge for communities now, is both simple and difficult. We know our societies have to radically change. We know we can’t go back to where we were before. We know it’s only through experiment that we’ll discover exactly how to run a low carbon city, how to care for a much older population, how to deal with drug addiction – and so on.”

11. This Approach to Strategy Deployment
Takes Place in Two Phases
Planning. Consensus on direction and
b"&/#$'#$
specific focal points is developed.
Goals and coaching topics are derived
mathematically and in detail "top down"
from the future-state value stream map.
Execution. Once target conditions
b"&/#$!B)$
have been developed: Frequent PDCA
cycles, coaching cycles and upward
communication of current condition and
lessons-learned begin.

46. Coaching cycles are built around the Five Coaching Kata Questions.
This pattern of questions is utilized up-and-down the organization.
Here's an example of a Coach's Five-Question card:
The Five Questions
1) What is the Target Condition? Back of card - Reflection Section
2) What is the Actual Condition now?
--------(Turn Card Over)--------------------->
3) What Obstacles do you think are preventing Reflect on the Last Step Taken
you from reaching the target condition? Because you donʼt actually know
Which *one* are you addressing now? what the result of a step will be!
4) What is your Next Step? (next PDCA / 1) What was your Last Step?
experiment) What do you expect?
5) When can we go and see what we 2) What did you Expect?
Have Learned from taking that step?
3) What Actually Happened?
*Youʼll often work on the same obstacle for several PDCA cycles
4) What did you Learn?
Card is turned over to ------------------------------>
reflect on the last step Return
