2. TOGETHER, IN HARMONY!
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
At the begninning of November, we enjoyed the first
learning/teaching/training activity, proposed and organized by the LUCIAN
GRIGORESCU SECONDARY SCHOOL from Medgidia, Romania (the project
coordinator). These activities took place under the generic DIFFERENT, BUT
EQUALS!, bringing together students and staff teachers from the host unit and 4
students and 2 teachers from each partner institution.
The activities began on Monday 7th
, with the guests' reception and the
presentation of the delegations from the partner schools. They were invited to a
festively decorated room after visiting the Euroclasses, where representatives
from each partner institution presented materials in electronic format containing
relevant information and images about the school/locality/region/education
system in the country of origin.
The program continued with students from the partner institutions, along
with 15 from the host school, organized in mixed teams, participating in the
"Discover Romania" with the teacher Nicoleta Legian. This aimed to train the
participants in the interactive learning of some concepts about the cultural and
traditional specificity of Romania. At the same time, they were able to
demonstrate their artistic, communication, and practical English skills by painting
popular Romanian motifs on a canvas bag. They all praised the organization, the
working environment, the quality of the information obtained and the products
made.
The teaching staff attended a workshop moderated by school psychologist
Valentina Durac, during which there was an exchange of good practices regarding
inclusive teaching strategies and harmonizing relations between members of the
school community, and games/questionnaires were presented to investigate the
state for the benefit of the students. Each participant received a "Well-being
Journal" that can be completed by the students, and by interpreting what is
recorded in the diary, information can be found regarding the comfort state that
the students have at school.
The day's agenda included a visit to Medgidia City Hall, where in a warm
and relaxing atmosphere, the guests expressed their interest in learning about how
the local authorities are involved in supporting the school and extracurricular
activities of the city's educational units.
The afternoon included a cultural exchange between the partner schools,
which consisted of the presentation of songs and dances specific to the areas of
origin. The participants had the opportunity to learn from the traditions of their

partners, to sing and dance together in a happy and friendly atmosphere. The
program of the first day ended with a highly artistic performance, supported by
children's ensembles of different ethnicities, who work at the "I.N. Roman"
Culture House from Medgidia, some of them being former or current students of
the Lucian Grigorescu Secondary School.
Tuesday, November 8th
, was a day dedicated to diversity and well-being.
In the first part of the day, the seminar "Diversity and well-being in our school"
took place. In addition to students and teachers from partner schools in the project,
there were also representatives of other educational institutions in Medgidia, such
as local authorities, parents, mass media participated.
In the afternoon, the students returned to school to participate in the
Friendship, poems, music and colors activity, which had the main purpose of
respecting DIVERSITY and promoting FRIENDSHIP and took place in the form
of workshops coordinated by teachers Lenuţa Stefan, Elena Dodiş, Silvia Tănase
and Raluca Marcov. The children, divided into three mixed groups, were involved
in literary, artistic creation and musical education activities. Poetry lovers created
lines on the theme of friendship, and those talented in painting created mandalas
in the shape of hearts. During the music workshop, the participants learned the
song Make new friends (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyTdVFa-Fws).
The final products made by the students were included in a booklet entitled
Friendship, poems, music and colors. The activity ended with a flash mob in the
school yard in which all those present took part.
The day's program also included a workshop for the teaching staff who
worked to create the United in Diversity optional course program to be included
in the curriculum of the partner schools in the next school year. The workshop
coordinated by teacher Adriana Constantinescu, started with an interactive and
relaxing moment to prepare the participants for the subsequent brainstorming and
creation exercises. Each participant presented the curriculum approach to school
decision making in their school and shared with the others a model of the elective
they had run with their students. Starting from this information, we established in
the team, a common content for the optional program. We then organized
ourselves into teams and each of them received a different creative task: setting
objectives, content areas, specific contents, activities suitable for each content,
formal and informal assessment methods. To capture and preserve each idea, we
worked digitally, editing the format of a lesson on the Nearpod platform. Each
team presented their contribution and the others were able to ask a question/bring
information/make an assessment.
To end the activity on a relaxing way, we applied two little games proposed
as an activity for the United in diversity optional and worked on an online

collaborative drawing matching the theme of the workshop. All the ideas were
formally translated into the optional curriculum that can be applied in the
classroom by every teacher of the partner schools.
The activities scheduled for Wednesday, November 9th
, took place under
the generic of Dobrogea, a European symbol of multi-ethnic coexistence, and
began with a visit to the Museum of Popular Art in Constanţa, where the
participants could observe objects of popular creation belonging to the Romanian
population, but also to the ethnic groups of Dobrogea, specific to different
historical stages. A very well-informed guide emphasized the uniqueness and
variety of all genres of popular creation corresponding to the space between the
Danube and the Black Sea.
For the students, the day's program also included a visit to the Museum
Complex of Natural Sciences, which offered a more complex picture of
Dobrogean nature. The micro-reservation includes specimens that are mostly
monuments of nature and rare species with an increasingly reduced representation
in natural biotopes. The element of maximum attraction was the Dolphinarium,
where they watched an extraordinary show performed by the dolphins Ni Ni and
Chen Chen, rewarded with roars of applause from those present. Thus, the
children spent two hours in an educational and pleasant way, interacting in a
special natural setting.
In parallel, the teachers participated in a training session with the theme
School for all, education for everyone that took place at the headquarters of the
County Center for Educational Resources and Assistance in Constanța, supported
by psychologists and psycho-pedagogues who work in this center. The
participants thus had the opportunity to learn and discuss the principles that
underlie an inclusive school and the ways to adapt the curriculum for students
with special needs and their integration into mainstream education.
The teaching staff then took part in a foray through the old center of the city
of Constanţa and on the Casino waterfront. They also visited the Orthodox
Cathedral "Holy Apostles Peter and Paul" and Geamia, from whose tower they
could admire the panorama of the city.
In the afternoon, the students, together with the teachers, took part in
informal activities (various games) on the sea shore, in Mamaia, the largest and
most famous resort of the Romanian Riviera, the favorite destination of tourists
during the summer.
The morning of Thursday, November 10th
, was a challenge for the
students, who in the workshop "My school in the future", guided by the Art
5. TOGETHER, IN HARMONY!
teacher, Elena Dodiş, tested their creativity by making a puzzle with drawings that
represent the school of the future, as they want it to look. Then followed an
introductory workshop in photographic technique, organized by teacher
Georgiana Vrȋnceanu, at a photo studio in the city, which helped the students to
know different ways of taking photos in a professional manner.
In the first part of the day, the teachers visited two educational centers in
Medgidia, the "Zâmbet și Culoare" Association and the Family and Child
Counseling Center „Curcubeul Cunoaşterii, both of which have as their main
objective the support of children and young people with special needs or who
come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The specialists who work here shared
their experience, underlining the fact that all the children enrolled in these centers
benefit from complex medical support and recovery programs designed and
implemented for each one's needs. The visitors were impressed by the material
base available to the two centers, by the warmth and dedication of the staff
towards the children. The dialogue that followed highlighted aspects faced by the
communities of the partner schools regarding the integration of children/young
people with SEN or socio-economic difficulties. All the participants concluded
that both the visits, but especially the discussions that followed them, were very
constructive and effective, being a real exchange of good practices in terms of
helping children who present a risk of social exclusion generated by medical
diagnoses, psychological difficulties not detected in time, educational deficiencies
and poverty.
The day finished with the ceremony of awarding the certificates of
participation. On this occasion, the headmistress of the host school, teacher
Simona Dănilă, and the project coordinator, teacher Mihaela Deli-Iorga, thanked
the participants for their interest and congratulated them for their seriousness. At
the same time, they emphasized that all the activities carried out contributed to
the improvement of digital and communication skills in English, but above all,
they led to the finding of effective methods of creating an inclusive educational
climate in which all students and teachers feel safe, appreciate and value. They
also expressed their belief that the collaborative and friendly relations established
between the participants will lead to the successful implementation of the project.
Recalling the most beautiful moments during the activities, the project
coordinators from the partner schools declared that it was a remarkable
experience, both for students and teachers, based on good collaboration,
emphasizing in particular the professionalism shown by the team from Romania.
Thanks were addressed to all those who contributed to the realization of attractive
and interesting activities in accordance with the major objective of the project
aimed at the formation of a civic, responsible behavior and the creation of an
inclusive school environment.
6. TOGETHER, IN HARMONY!
The last day of the LTT activities program, Friday 11th
, included an
educational visit to the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, the most expensive
and the second largest administrative building in the world. Apart from the usual
tour, the participants received information about the history of the building, about
the functioning of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the process of voting
and representation, the role of deputies and senators, about the legislative process.
At the end, they all declared that they were very impressed by the building and by
the sacrifice made by the Romanian people for its construction and by the fact that
in Romania diversity is respected, all ethnicities being represented in the
Parliament.
All in all, a very good collaboration between students and teachers was
noted, there was effective communication in English, and working in mixed teams
led to the promotion of human values such as tolerance, generosity, freedom of
expression, respect for people, trust in our own capabilities own and in others,
friendship. When we came back home, the four students valued this experience as
very enriching and fulfilling, both personally and academically.
During the last weeks of November, our SMT started to prepare
presentations to tell their experience to the rest of the school community. We
decided to carry out these presentations during the 2nd
school term. Also, the rest
of the students finished the posters that they started in October and rounded up
the murals, which were hung in the school’s corridors (one in the first floor, in
front of the stairs, and one in the ground floor, by the main entrance).
