• ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR is how people
behave in their individual capacity and as part of organization.
• Purpose of OB is to create efficient and effective output.
• To achieve this purpose people must have high motivation, Job
satisfaction, Low absenteeism and turnover.
• Motivation is the process that accounts for an individuals
intensity, direction and persistence of effort towards attaining a
goal. (Robbins 2003)
INTENSITY - How hard a person tries.
DIRECTION - Orientation that benefits the organization.
PERSISTENCE - How long a person can maintain his/her
efforts.
IMPORTANCE OF MOTIVATION
INDIVIDUAL IMPORTANCE
 Helps to achieve personal goals.
 Helps in self-development of individuals.
 Give job satisfaction.
 An individual would always gain by working with a dynamic team.
BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATIONAL IMPORTANCE
 More motivated the employees are, the more empowered the team
is, and the more is the team work more profitable and successful is
the business.
 Improves Efficiency by increasing productivity and decreasing
cost.
 Leads to best possible utilization of resources.
 Creates a co-operative environment.
 Leads to optimistic and challenging attitude at work place.
