2. Types of music videos
• There are 3 different types of videos we could choose from.
• Abstract- This is where the video has hardly if anything to do
with the song. It is normally used in heavy metal songs.
• Narrative- This is where the video shows what the lyrics are
saying. This is very popular with country music.
• Performance- This shows the band playing on stage. The best
example of this is the band Fun and there song ‘we are young’.
• Many music videos are a mixture of narrative and
performance. This is so there is a story but the audience also
get to see the artist/band.
3. What’s in a good music video?
• Genre/mise en scene
• Camerawork- shots, angles, shot distance.
• Editing-Quick fast cuts.
• Narrative and performance-video links with lyrics.
• Band image-What they wear- Where they are.
• These things are key to a good music video and are things we
will need to think about when making ours. Clothes and
location will be important because we want our intended
audience to fit in with the artist.
