The initial response to this is that the idea of it is like a
detective film. This is just by the style with the main
protagonist fading onto the image with gun in hand.
Giving an impression of a classic noir film. Although the
fonts and city scape look futuristic showing a neo-noir
film. The fonts used are very future like as well as
making it really distinct and recognizable. The colors
used are all dark and and if color is used usually its for
the lighting effect and the only thing in red is the title
that really makes it stand out. Cementing the name of
the film. Why I think people watched it the 1st time
because it was a classic style of film but with a future
twist to it. Meaning that obviously sales where going to
be a hit or miss to the public. I think when a film brings
something new to the table that’s what makes it the
tipping point. And that what I'm going to try do with
mine, add something new or try to. Hoping that I could
bring more views / popularity.
Existing Product
Shots like this are shown in most classic
noir films, with the use of shadow hiding
the character almost in the shot. Also
would be good to have a voice over here
too to have an introduction to the
character but shows in a deeper meaning
how he lurks in the shadows.
A medium shot like this establishes the scene
as well as the characters. If I where to use this I
would have the 1st actor center shot with any
supporting actors following behind. This forces
the viewers attention onto the main character.
With any supporting cast close by to show
somewhat of loyalty. With a low angle shows
dominance too over the shot that came next
that was the head of police with a high angle
looking down.
Blade runner audience
Looking at the the blade runner audience this makes scene to me the
original film came out so many years ago the audience that originally
watched it would be in to it still. This makes my audience on somewhat
more ranged esspassally if I'm using this film as one of my inspirations.
Existing Product
A neo-noir film that is based on a comic book
brings it to life by having its art style and scenes
based round hand drawn CGI having a comic
book feel as well as being all in black and white
having a gritty noir effect. With red being the only
color that is shown really makes some of the
fights and characters more interesting. As well as
the poster having the main protagonist shadowed
by the rest of the cast. Giving a really gritty and
dark under town to it. Most of the film is on a
green screen because of the heavy amount of
effects and back drops created just for the film.
As well as the fights in the film are very over the
top like a comic book too.
Existing Product
A low shot of the main protagonist with a
heroic pose. This gives the audience
someone to literally look up to and will be
on the side of for most of the film. Id use
this to ether introduce or cenmentify
characters into the film. As well as this
shot can easily be used in advertising
martial to make the member feel more
familiar with it.
A shot like this I do like due to it being a
close up with somewhat of a mid shot
going on in the background. Sort of a
reversed over the shoulder shot. With
this you can focus in and out of dialogue.
This is what I would use it for preferably
rather than just a establishing shot or
artistic at most.
Sin City Audience
A similar attribute to the blade runner audience is that the fans age with the film sense it game out in
2005 as an 15 rated people who where of the age at that time would be the ones to enjoy the film then
and still enjoy it now as a whole.
As well as compared to blade runner the professions seem to be different with much less disposable
income but a lot more creative taste in line of work. This means that I may have to adapt the film to fill
out this erge for creativity. There for I will try that with the experiments and try and make new shots
and cinematography for my film.

John Wick 2 is a neo-noir film
mainly bout revenge, like the
other film in the series. This one
does its best with the action
pieces involved in film and
focuses on that aspect . This is
classed in the neo noir section
because of the setting. A dark
gritty real world with lots of
issues that john has to solve.
Another big part of this film is
the music along side. With a
techno-EDM theme. That
further modernizes the genera.
Existing Product
This is the main villain of john wick 2
ass seen his appearance is much
darker contrasting to his body guards
making him stand out more even
though in a darker color. Id use this
idea to contrast characters instead.
The shot is trying to show off
authority too with the clothing of the
main villain being all black and his
goons are in white.A shot of john wick looking all beaten up on
a white background. This close up is meant
to just show emotion and how the character
is ending up after the fights he's just come
out of. How this sequence is used in the
film is to show john slowly not being able to
keep up wit all the havoc. As well as with
this montage it shows the character
developing and really showing how
dangerous he is.
John wick audience
These results surprise me due to the fact I always saw john wick as a film that would be suited to my age range
because it seemed more like an action flick although the age range really surprised me. This could be because the film
involves the main protagonist of about the same age range as them. Compared to sin city and blade runner they seem
more right sided. With the same line of work as the sin city likers too.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– Most of the films I researched are neo-noir films.
– All have a gritty protagonist that people can look up to.
– All the films have a dark past/ backstory to them.
– All movies are about finding something out even if it about himself
– My audiences seem to be in the 25-40’s section meaning my approach may need some
reagustment to making the film and who its for.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your own production work?
– What I want to do is have a lot of backstory like these characters do, although I want to make
the audience involve themselves with it.
– Also ill use the shots I listed in production but for my own methods of story telling.
– Ill do my best in using costumes to identify the power of the characters involved.
– I want to show progression of characters too seeing how throughout the whole film they're
constantly changing the attitude but this will also develop them along side seeing the change
that they make as the characters continue on with the story.
– Some character traits I want to have in the film as well with some being over cocky to some
serious about the job they're doing therefor having somewhat of verity.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
The 1st, two responses where just to get an
overview of the audience and what age range
they would be in as well as gender to see any
similarity in responses due to this.
Audience research
My Observation of this research is that most
people haven herd of the neo-noir/ noir genera
of film so my film maybe a introduction to the
whole genera or a stepping stone towards it.
Audience research
From all the responses of this only 6 people could give examples of
neo-noir/ noir films. And the rest couldn’t name any. Or skipped
meaning some would’nt have anything to base mine off that could be
good because means im not geeting compaired to big budget films
although could be bad because it would be there 1st film in there
genre.
Audience research
8 people seem to like the idea of a classic style of character these people
could be the ones that watched noir films before and think is how the
character should be like in every film. The others where equally spilt between
a developed character and amore modernized one. How I may use this to my
advantage is create characters (multiple) with these traits. This will mean
that my audience can relate to the characters each to there own.
Audience research
I asked this question to get an idea of a focus
point for my film. Looking by results story has to
be the part that I perfect and hopefully the rest
could fall into place. Having this shows what I
can prioritise and in witch order.
Audience research
What this shows is how many people would be willing just to
see what backstory my film would have and how willing they
would be to get into. Most said if the story was good enough,
while others said is could just be in the film. I may put enough
information into the film to watch solo but but lore outside to
have more depth to characters.
Audience research
Looking at these responses a missing person case seems
to be the most popular and the most realistic one too.
Although on the “other” tab they said I could do some
plot twists. Id use this to make the story better that could
link to my other question with a focus on story.
Audience
research
What this was to do is help me make other products
along side the film asking what they’ll like to see and buy.
This would help me improve my grad mostly as well as
get good feedback because it the product they wanted.

Here are a few key observations from the interview:- The interviewee is familiar with the detective/noir genre, citing Murder on the Orient Express as an example they enjoyed for its mystery and build up. This indicates they have an understanding of genre conventions.- They expressed interest in getting involved in determining the story outcome or sequel via a viewer vote online. However, they also noted a potential issue could be some viewers not taking it seriously. This provides insight into both engagement opportunities and potential challenges. - When asked about preferred character types, they suggested a war veteran character. This gives an idea of the kind of backstory and character traits that may appeal to and engage this individual as a viewer.Overall

  • 2. Existing Product The initial response to this is that the idea of it is like a detective film. This is just by the style with the main protagonist fading onto the image with gun in hand. Giving an impression of a classic noir film. Although the fonts and city scape look futuristic showing a neo-noir film. The fonts used are very future like as well as making it really distinct and recognizable. The colors used are all dark and and if color is used usually its for the lighting effect and the only thing in red is the title that really makes it stand out. Cementing the name of the film. Why I think people watched it the 1st time because it was a classic style of film but with a future twist to it. Meaning that obviously sales where going to be a hit or miss to the public. I think when a film brings something new to the table that’s what makes it the tipping point. And that what I'm going to try do with mine, add something new or try to. Hoping that I could bring more views / popularity.
  • 3. Existing Product Shots like this are shown in most classic noir films, with the use of shadow hiding the character almost in the shot. Also would be good to have a voice over here too to have an introduction to the character but shows in a deeper meaning how he lurks in the shadows. A medium shot like this establishes the scene as well as the characters. If I where to use this I would have the 1st actor center shot with any supporting actors following behind. This forces the viewers attention onto the main character. With any supporting cast close by to show somewhat of loyalty. With a low angle shows dominance too over the shot that came next that was the head of police with a high angle looking down.
  • 4. Blade runner audience Looking at the the blade runner audience this makes scene to me the original film came out so many years ago the audience that originally watched it would be in to it still. This makes my audience on somewhat more ranged esspassally if I'm using this film as one of my inspirations.
  • 5. Existing Product A neo-noir film that is based on a comic book brings it to life by having its art style and scenes based round hand drawn CGI having a comic book feel as well as being all in black and white having a gritty noir effect. With red being the only color that is shown really makes some of the fights and characters more interesting. As well as the poster having the main protagonist shadowed by the rest of the cast. Giving a really gritty and dark under town to it. Most of the film is on a green screen because of the heavy amount of effects and back drops created just for the film. As well as the fights in the film are very over the top like a comic book too.
  • 6. Existing Product A low shot of the main protagonist with a heroic pose. This gives the audience someone to literally look up to and will be on the side of for most of the film. Id use this to ether introduce or cenmentify characters into the film. As well as this shot can easily be used in advertising martial to make the member feel more familiar with it. A shot like this I do like due to it being a close up with somewhat of a mid shot going on in the background. Sort of a reversed over the shoulder shot. With this you can focus in and out of dialogue. This is what I would use it for preferably rather than just a establishing shot or artistic at most.
  • 7. Sin City Audience A similar attribute to the blade runner audience is that the fans age with the film sense it game out in 2005 as an 15 rated people who where of the age at that time would be the ones to enjoy the film then and still enjoy it now as a whole. As well as compared to blade runner the professions seem to be different with much less disposable income but a lot more creative taste in line of work. This means that I may have to adapt the film to fill out this erge for creativity. There for I will try that with the experiments and try and make new shots and cinematography for my film.
  • 8. Existing Product John Wick 2 is a neo-noir film mainly bout revenge, like the other film in the series. This one does its best with the action pieces involved in film and focuses on that aspect . This is classed in the neo noir section because of the setting. A dark gritty real world with lots of issues that john has to solve. Another big part of this film is the music along side. With a techno-EDM theme. That further modernizes the genera.
  • 9. Existing Product This is the main villain of john wick 2 ass seen his appearance is much darker contrasting to his body guards making him stand out more even though in a darker color. Id use this idea to contrast characters instead. The shot is trying to show off authority too with the clothing of the main villain being all black and his goons are in white.A shot of john wick looking all beaten up on a white background. This close up is meant to just show emotion and how the character is ending up after the fights he's just come out of. How this sequence is used in the film is to show john slowly not being able to keep up wit all the havoc. As well as with this montage it shows the character developing and really showing how dangerous he is.
  • 10. John wick audience These results surprise me due to the fact I always saw john wick as a film that would be suited to my age range because it seemed more like an action flick although the age range really surprised me. This could be because the film involves the main protagonist of about the same age range as them. Compared to sin city and blade runner they seem more right sided. With the same line of work as the sin city likers too.
  • 11. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? – Most of the films I researched are neo-noir films. – All have a gritty protagonist that people can look up to. – All the films have a dark past/ backstory to them. – All movies are about finding something out even if it about himself – My audiences seem to be in the 25-40’s section meaning my approach may need some reagustment to making the film and who its for. • What aspects of the research will you include within your own production work? – What I want to do is have a lot of backstory like these characters do, although I want to make the audience involve themselves with it. – Also ill use the shots I listed in production but for my own methods of story telling. – Ill do my best in using costumes to identify the power of the characters involved. – I want to show progression of characters too seeing how throughout the whole film they're constantly changing the attitude but this will also develop them along side seeing the change that they make as the characters continue on with the story. – Some character traits I want to have in the film as well with some being over cocky to some serious about the job they're doing therefor having somewhat of verity.
  • 13. Audience research The 1st, two responses where just to get an overview of the audience and what age range they would be in as well as gender to see any similarity in responses due to this.
  • 14. Audience research My Observation of this research is that most people haven herd of the neo-noir/ noir genera of film so my film maybe a introduction to the whole genera or a stepping stone towards it.
  • 15. Audience research From all the responses of this only 6 people could give examples of neo-noir/ noir films. And the rest couldn’t name any. Or skipped meaning some would’nt have anything to base mine off that could be good because means im not geeting compaired to big budget films although could be bad because it would be there 1st film in there genre.
  • 16. Audience research 8 people seem to like the idea of a classic style of character these people could be the ones that watched noir films before and think is how the character should be like in every film. The others where equally spilt between a developed character and amore modernized one. How I may use this to my advantage is create characters (multiple) with these traits. This will mean that my audience can relate to the characters each to there own.
  • 17. Audience research I asked this question to get an idea of a focus point for my film. Looking by results story has to be the part that I perfect and hopefully the rest could fall into place. Having this shows what I can prioritise and in witch order.
  • 18. Audience research What this shows is how many people would be willing just to see what backstory my film would have and how willing they would be to get into. Most said if the story was good enough, while others said is could just be in the film. I may put enough information into the film to watch solo but but lore outside to have more depth to characters.
  • 19. Audience research Looking at these responses a missing person case seems to be the most popular and the most realistic one too. Although on the “other” tab they said I could do some plot twists. Id use this to make the story better that could link to my other question with a focus on story.
  • 20. Audience research What this was to do is help me make other products along side the film asking what they’ll like to see and buy. This would help me improve my grad mostly as well as get good feedback because it the product they wanted.
  • 22. Interview 1 Have you seen any detective/noir films? Please explain witch ones and what you likes about them?: Yes, Murder on the orient express, I like the mystery and the build up to the finally. If the story's outcome / sequel would be determined by the viewers and a vote on a website would you get involved, and what issues could you see from this?: Yes I would get involved, however some people might not take it seriously. What types of characters would you like to see in a detective noir film? (backstory, character, look, feelings and interaction with others): I would like to see a war veteran character.
  • 23. Interview 1 • Observation: – This person knows somewhat of a detective film and understands the concepts and what I’ll be trying to achieve • What this says about my audience: – That they feel like it should pay homage to previous noir films as well as wanting to be involved with it. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – It will involve the concepts they asked for as well as aiding there experience with the online.
  • 24. Interview 2 Have you seen any detective/noir films? Please explain witch ones and what you likes about them?: • Yes I have seen Sherlock Holmes and I did not like it because I fond it boring and confusing. I like when crime movies have a cliff-hanger and a plot twist. If the story's outcome / sequel would be determined by the viewers and a vote on a website would you get involved, and what issues could you see from this?: • I would get involved however I think that people might have mess with the votes and create storylines that don’t really make sense and ruin the ending. What types of characters would you like to see in a detective noir film? (backstory, character, look, feelings and interaction with others): • I would like to see a back story to get closer to the characters and feel more emotional.
  • 25. Interview 2 • Observation: – This person does not seem too interested in the detective concept but wants a good product out of the work anyway. • What this says about my audience: – It says that some of my audience will want to watch it because of its what I created and what I worked on even though they may not be so interested in the type of film. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – How it'll apple is keeping it to a point where the film covers enough information so the audience can understand the characters. As well as having some depth online too that they can look into.
