2. CANON DSLR CAMERA
650D EOS
Advantages
• Easy to adjust the zoom and
focus
• Lightweight thus easy to use for
handheld shots
• Good quality footage was
produced during filming
Disadvantages
• Sound quality without
microphone was fuzzy
• Auto focus made a frequent
clicking sound and it was
difficult to use as it lost focus at
the slightest wobble

3. CAMERA LENS
Advantages
• Easy to adjust the zoom and
focus
• Good quality footage was
produced during filming
• Easy to attach/ detach
• Very sensitive focus which made
our filming at the best quality
focus
Disadvantages
• Auto focus made a frequent
clicking sound and it was
difficult to use as it lost focus at
the slightest wobble
• Made the camera fairly heavy
when attached which at times
made handheld shots difficult at
times particularly the shot when
James walks up the stairs

4. RODE MICROPHONE
Advantages
• Produced good sound quality for
the scene where the glass was
being swept up
• Easy to use
• Allowed us to record Foley
sound of a high quality, most
notably for the part where James
pretends to blow out the match;
this made the sound appear more
realistic
Disadvantages
• Did not cover the sound of the
auto focus click
• Made the camera fairly heavy
when attached
• Did not block out all background
sound for example the wind
when outside

5. LIGHTING
Advantages
• Allowed us to create a tense
atmosphere through the use of
shadows and spotlights
• The light was compact and easy
to attach/detach
• We were able to adjust the
intensity of the light which
allowed us to make the lights dim
in times of suspense
Disadvantages
• There are times when you could
see the reflection of the light in
Megan's windows and it did not
look authentic

6. FINAL CUT PRO X
Advantages
• Effective in creating a
professional look for our thriller
opening
• We were able to detach audio and
edit over our Foley sound effects
• We used filters in order to darken
the opacity of our shots thus
creating an eerie atmosphere
• Easy to add credits
Disadvantages
• Difficult to attach transitions
between the clips
• The software would freeze at
times particularly after adding
our credits

7. YOUTUBE
Advantages
• As digital natives, YouTube is a
huge part of our lives therefore it
would be easily discoverable by
people of our age demographic
• Easy to use
• Easy to find copyright free music
and sound effects
Disadvantages
• Videos did take a considerable
time to upload

8. What have I learnt about technologies
during the Production Process?
Throughout the filming process I have learnt numerous things about the use of
technologies:
① It is vital to ensure the camera is set to the correct aperture and ISO level because,
due to us filming at Megan’s around noon the natural lighting was fairly bright
which left us with a glare on any reflective surface and did not fully reflect the
mystery of a psychological thriller through the use of shadows.
② Through the effective use of our tripod, we were allowed to apply a steady tilt to
the shot of our protagonist burning the photograph and, any slight wobble
would distract from the scene therefore it was important that we could use this
piece of technology effectively.
③ By using a high quality camera, it allowed us to create a professional looking
thriller opening thus as an amateur production company we could create piece
that is convincing as the first two minutes of a psychological thriller film.

9. What have I learnt about technologies
during the Post-Production Process?
Throughout the filming process I have learnt numerous things about the use of
technologies:
① In terms of our editing, we were allowed the opportunity to utilize high
quality editing software in order to cut down the footage of our filming and
to lower the opacity of the shots to create more shadows. Furthermore it was
in this stage that we added in our Foley sound effects and the backing track
which was the greatest indicator of our thriller genre.
② In terms of exhibition we used YouTube, a popular platform of consumption
from our targeted age group to present our thriller opening which allows for
easy viewing and a clear option to share the product.
③ In terms of distribution, we used Photoshop and PowerPoint in order to edit
our posters, allowing us insight into how a real marketing team would
distribute and create an audience for their own films.
