Modi exhorts exporters to set long-term export targets
New Delhi: Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi on
Thursday appealed to
exporters and the indus-
try to fix long-term ex-
port targets for them-
selves and suggest ways
to the government to
achieve those goals.
Inaugurating the new
Vanijya Bhawan here,
he said that the exports
play a critical role in the
transition of a country
from developing to de-
veloped status.
During the last fiscal
year, the Prime Minister
said despite the historic
global disruptions, In-
dia’s exports stood at a
total (goods and servic-
es)of USD670billion(Rs
50 lakh crore).
He added that India’s
merchandise exports in
2021-22 crossed USD 418
billion(Rs31lakhcrore),
as against the target of
USD 400 billion (Rs 30
lakh crore).
“Encouraged by this
successof thepastyears,
we have now increased
our export targets and
have doubled our efforts
to achieve them. Collec-
tive effort of everyone is
very necessary to
achieve these new goals
Industry, exporters and
export promotion coun-
cils are here. I will urge
them to set not only
short-termbutalsolong-
term export targets for
themselves,” he said.
PM Modi said that
the new Bhawan will
significantly benefit
people associated with
trade, commerce and
the Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises
(MSME) sector.
The Prime Minister
also launched the NIRY-

LAST HOUR OF VOTING HAD BEEN RESERVED FOR COVID PATIENTS IN POLL BOUND AREA
Rajinder Nagar posts 40.65% voter turnout
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): The Rajinder Na-
gar Assembly constitu-
ency recorded a 40.65%
voter turnout till 5 pm
in the bypolls Thurs-
day.
Delhi Chief Election
Officer (CEO) Ranbir
Singh said efforts have
been made to encourage
more voters to come to
the polling booths.
The last hour of vot-
ing has been reserved
for Covid patients.
“Covid patients have
been identified by the
district administration.
They will be brought to
the polling station in
ambulances to cast
votes between 5 pm and
6 pm, after the normal
voting is completed.
Foolproof arrange-
ments have been made
for the patients who
will be allowed to vote
wearing PPE kits,” Sin-
gh said.
“We hope the voting
percentage to go up as
more people are likely
to turn up in the after-
noon. The constituency
recorded a voter turn-
out of 58.27% in 2020,
and we hope the num-
ber goes up this time,”
he said.
The office of the CEO
had made arrange-
ments for drinking wa-
ter, Braille and sign lan-
guage at all polling
booths. A pick-up and
drop facility for the el-
derly has also been ar-
ranged.

POTABLE WATER SUPPLY, SEWER
LINE, ROADS AMONG KEY ISSUES
New Delhi (PTI): Potable water supply, sewer lines,
broken roads and the new liquor policy were among the
key election issues for many Rajinder Nagar residents
as they stepped out to
vote in the bypoll to the
assembly constituency on
Thursday morning. The Ra-
jinder Nagar assembly seat
fell vacant after AAP leader
Raghav Chadha was elected to Rajya Sabha recently.
Several voters alleged no developmental work was un-
dertaken in the constituency. “I voted for development,
which this constituency lacks. Issues of water supply,
parking and encroachment need to be fixed. I believe
people are voting on development issues,” Gurjeet
Singh, who came to exercise his franchise at a Rajinder
Nagar R Block polling station, told PTI. Shortage of po-
table water emerged as a key issue across the Rajinder
Nagar constituency. In posh colonies of the area, issues
of development, vehicle parking and encroachment are
prevalent, several voters claimed.
Delhi Transport Department hiring
research fellows to improve EV policy
New Delhi (PTI): The
Delhi transport depart-
ment is hiring research
fellows to advise the gov-
ernment on policy inter-
ventions to make the
national capital more e-
vehicle-friendly, officials
said.
Interviews were held
on June 18 and four can-
didates shortlisted, they
said.
“Two of the shortlist-
ed research fellows are
deputy directors in the
EV cell, while the other
two are freshers. One of
them is likely to join by
June 25 and another by
the end of this month,”
an official said.
Another official said
the transport depart-
ment was hiring people
to help it improve the
city government’s EV
(electric vehicle) policy.
“They will help us re-
search various aspects
like what technologies
are available, how charg-
ing infrastructure can be
improved and policy in-
terventions that can be
suggested on the basis of
ongoing managerial
changes,” he added.
The fellows will also
conduct research to find
out if it is feasible to
have all manufactures
use standard batteries
and whether batteries
can be exchanged at
charging stations, the of-
ficial said.
The job profile of the
researchers will also in-
volve comparing e-vehi-
cle policies of other
states with Delhi, and
suggesting policy inter-
ventions on the basis of
ongoing managerial
changes, he added.
Entry of medium,
heavy vehicles
banned from Nov
New Delhi (PTI):
The Delhi govern-
ment has issued an
order banning the
entry of medium and
heavy goods vehicles
in the national capi-
tal from November to
February in an effort
to curb vehicular pol-
lution, officials said
on Thursday
.
According to an of-
ficial, entry of such
vehicles will be
banned from Novem-
ber 1, 2022 to Febru-
ary 28, 2023. Vehicu-
lar pollution leads to
deterioration of air
quality during the
winter months, he
added.
On June 15, the
Delhi government
had written to its
neighbouring states,
including Haryana
and Uttar Pradesh,
urging them to allow
only BS VI-compliant
buses to enter the na-
tional capital from
October 1 in order to
help control air pol-
lution in the city
.
The request was
made to deal with
the problem of ve-
hicular pollution in
the city, which offi-
cials here indicated,
is contributed to in
part by vehicles com-
ing from the neigh-
bouring state of
Haryana.
The national capi-
tal witnesses high
levels of air pollu-
tion in the winter
months from Octo-
ber due to a multi-
tude of factors, in-
cluding stubble
burning and vehicu-
lar traffic.

cused Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal of
“skipping” crucial

fare in his New Delhi

.
No immediate reac-
tion to Gupta’s accusa-
tion was available
from the ruling Aam

At a press conference,
Gupta claimed that Kejri-
wal attended only one of
the 21 Jan Suvidha meets

This shows his “indiffer-
ence” towards his con-
stituents, he charged.
The Delhi BJP presi-
dent claimed that the
chief minister was ab-
sent in four meetings of
the New Delhi Municipal
Council (NDMC).
Water supply to big
Centre-run hospitals in
the NDMC area was re-
duced by the Delhi gov-
ernment. “Earlier, the
Delhi Jal Board (DJB)
used to supply 124 MLD
of water to these hospi-
tals which have now
been scaled down to 75
MLD,” he alleged.
In an NDMC meeting
on Wednesday
, NDMC

olution to declare Kejri-

“vacant”, citing his ab-

tion was moved during

New Delhi: An inter-
esting post was seen in
social media that the
fight that Congress
should have contested
in courts is being fought
on streets and the fight
which should be fought
on the streets, is being
fought on social media!
When Rahul Gandhi
was called by the En-
forcement Directorate
(ED) for questioning
about the alleged irreg-
ularities in the Nation-
al Herald case, the en-
tire Congress party
took to the streets. Keep
in mind this matter is
very old and the Con-
gress has gone to the
Supreme Court to get
the matter dismissed.
But even in the court it
did not get relief. This
case was also started by
Subramanian Swamy,
who had once brought
down the government
of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
by upporting Jay-
alalithaa with Sonia
Gandhi. So it is not a
very simple matter of
political revenge of the
government.
So when all the top
leaders of Congress
came out on the road,
their message went that
Congress leaders are de-
voted to only one family
.
Their allegiance is not
to the people, but to the
family. Secondly, the
BJP also got an opportu-
nity to say that the Con-
gress party is agitating
to defend the Nehru-
Gandhi family in the
matter of corruption. In
fact, the Congress has
to fight this battle in
court. Congress should
remember how the SIT
set up for the Gujarat
riots questioned the
then Chief Minister of
Gujarat Narendra Modi
for hours. Modi had qui-
etly gone to the SIT’s of-
fice and joined the inter-
rogation. If instead of
taking to the road in
protest against Rahul’s
appearance before the
ED, Congress would
have taken to the road
in protest against the
bulldozers going on
people’s homes in Ut-
tar Pradesh or strug-
gled on the road like
this on the issue of in-
flation, poverty and
unemployment, com-
mon people would con-
nect more with it. But
the Congress party is
fighting all such bat-
tles on Twitter.
Congress’ bizarre strategy: Fight real issues on social
media, protest against ‘first family’s’ issues on roads!

Underlining the role
of increasing exports in
the transition of a coun-
try from developing to
developed country,
Modi said that in the
last eight years, India
has been continuously
increasing its exports.
Better policies to in-
crease exports, easing
of the process, and tak-
ing products to new
markets, have helped a
lot in this direction, he
said adding today, every
department of the gov-
ernment is giving prior-
ity to increasing ex-
ports with a ‘whole of
government’ approach.
“Exports from new
areas are increasing.
Even from many aspira-
tional districts, exports
have now increased
manifold. The increase
in exports of cotton and
handloom products by
55 per cent shows how
the work is being done
at the grassroot level,”
he said.
Now many of the do-
mestic products are be-
ing exported for the
first time to new coun-
tries, he said citing ex-
amples like Sitabhog
Mithai being exported
to Bahrain, Fresh King
Chilli of Nagaland to
London, Fresh Bur-
mese grapes of Assam
to Dubai, tribal Mahua
products from Chattis-
garh to France and
Khumani of Kargil to
Dubai.
He also referred to
trade deals signed with
the UAE and Australia
last year and informed
that there has been a lot
of progress on talks for
similar pacts with other
countries as well.
“For business, identi-
fying new markets and
manufacturing prod-
ucts after identifying
their needs is very im-
portant for the progress
of the country”, he said.
He also requested
every department to pe-
riodically review the
portals and platforms
that have been devel-
oped in recent times.

‘SINGLE LEADER’
New Delhi (PTI): The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha
(JMM), led by its executive president and Chief Min-
ister Hemant Soren, may be among the 17 Opposi-
tion parties, which nominated Yashwant Sinha on
June 21 as their joint candidate for the July 18 Presi-
dential election, but the tribal party seems all set to
review its position and back the ruling BJP-led NDA’s
Presidential nominee, Draupadi Murmu. Murmu is
on course to be elected as the next President, first
tribal to assume the country’s highest constitutional
office. Shibu Soren-headed JMM clearly does not
want to be seen as a party which despite its tribal
credentials did not back the “historic move” to send
1st tribal to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

IN-DEPTH
haratiya Janata Par-
ty has outplayed the
Opposition by field-
ing Draupadi Mur-
mu, former
Jharkhand Governor, as its can-
didate for Presidential poll. The
choice helps its tribal push and
is acceptable to its allies. Mur-
mu is the first tribal, a Santhal,
and the second woman after
Pratibha Patil to be in line to
succeed Ram Nath Kovind in
Rashtrapati Bhawan. Being
from Odisha, Murmu has the
support of Biju Janata Dal. She
also has the backing of YSRCP
of Andhra Pradesh which gives
BJP the confidence of winning
the contest. The only doubt is
about Jharkhand Mukti Morcha
but it is likely to vote for Murmu
much against the wishes of Con-
gress, JMM’s ally in Jharkhand.
If JMM votes for Murmu the
Opposition will have to rework
its strategy for unity but only
after the Presidential election is
over. In the meantime, Opposi-
tion’s candidate Yashwant Sin-
ha, the former Union Finance
Minister, will be disappointed at
not getting JMM’s votes which
he is hopeful of.

INDIA-SOUTH AFRICA T20 SERIES
MAJOR GAINS BUT SOME
WORRIES TOO FOR TEAM INDIA!

from being 2-0 down and the

ended with 2 wins apiece.

with barely three overs
bowled in the series decider.
Despite ending on a disap-
pointing note, the series had
several positive takeaways for
the Men in Blue ahead of the
T20 World Cup later this year.
COMEBACK BY
DINESH KARTHIK
The remarkable comeback by
Dinesh Karthik was the most
heart-warming aspect for In-
dian fans. Enjoying a second
windtohiscareer,Karthikhad
returned to Team India after
three years on the back of
somesterlingperformancesin
theIPL.Butmanywonderedif
he could replicate his IPL suc-
cess in Indian colours against
a strong South African side.
Karthik, however, carried
his IPL form into the interna-
tional arena and scored at a
hugely impressive rate of
158.62 against the Proteas.
Warming up with an unbeat-
en 30 off 21 balls in the sec-
ond match, Karthik smashed
a magical 55 off 27 balls in
the fourth game. Given his
power-packed shows, voices
are growing for Karthik’s in-
clusion in the T20 World Cup
squad as many believe that
he can play the role of fin-
isher to near-perfection.
HARDIK PANDYA’S
PERFORMANCE
Like Karthik, Hardik Pandya
too made an impactful return
to Team India. After leading
Gujarat Titans to victory in
IPL 2022, Hardik made cru-
cialcontributionsallthrough
the series. After a blistering
31 off 12 balls in the opening
game in Delhi, he hit another
30-plus score in the game at
Vizag. Also, in the Rajkot
game, he made a vital 46 off
31 balls enabling India to re-
cover from a dicey 81 for four.
Another major plus is Is-
han Kishan’s form. Despite
being the costliest buy in the
IPL auction at 15.25 crores,
the young opener was rather
unimpressive in the Mumbai
Indians’ disastrous IPL cam-
paign this year. But the tal-
ented left-hander turned
things around against South
Africa and was the top run-
getter, hammering 206 runs
at an average of 41.20 and a
terrific strike rate of 150.36.
ON THE
BOWLING SIDE
On the bowling side, veteran
pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar
posed a lot of challenges to
South African batters. Till a
few months ago, Bhuvi’s abil-
ity to swing the ball seemed
to have gone missing and his
place in Team India appeared
doubtful. But he rediscov-
ered his bite and stifled most
Proteas batters and was even-
tually named the ‘Player of
the Series’.
If Bhuvi looked like a
bowler reborn, Harshal Patel
was also impressive and can
aspire for a T20 World Cup
berth. Besides bagging seven
wickets, it was great to see
how he learnt from his mis-
takes. Even young pacer
Avesh Khan displayed his
wares with skill. Despite
some former cricketers ask-
ing for his exit from the play-
ing XI, the team management
stood firm and Avesh repaid
their trust in Rajkot by bag-
ging 4/18 in a hostile spell
and seems ready to serve In-
dian cricket in the long run.
Beyond the positives, there
were a few areas of concern
as well. Rishabh Pant’s form
was possibly the biggest wor-
ry
. The middle-order was a
point of concern as not only
Pant but even Shreyas Iyer
keptstrugglingtostrikeform.
As the first-choice T20I wick-
et-keeper currently, Pant’s
form is worrying and as the
stand-in skipper too, his cap-
taincy left a lot to be desired.
SELECTION OF
PLAYERS
Inaddition,thesame11players
were picked for all five match-
es, with stability being the
name of the game. The refusal
to change players implied that
youngseamerslikepacesensa-
tionUmranMalikandleft-arm
Arshdeep Singh didn’t play a
singlegame.Whileconsistency
in selections is a laudable poli-
cy
, both the young pacers de-
served a look in. In particular,
denying a debut to 22-year-old
Umran who regularly clocked
over 150 in IPL games, seems
like a major chance missed on
home grounds.

New Delhi: The
Bharatiya Janata
Party government
at the Centre and
the BJP govern-
ments in many
states are changing
books on history
and some other
subjects. Political
science books are
also being changed.
It is not that books
are being changed
for the first time
but for the first
time books are be-
ing changed in
such an calm and
easy manner. Ear-
lier there was a pro-
cess to replace the
books. A team of
writers and editors
worked on it. The
changes were made
keeping in mind
the totality of the
subject. Care was
taken that the
change in the book
of a subject should
be in such a way
that in spite of the
change, it would be
consistent. It
should not seem
that suddenly
something has
been removed in
the middle. Howev-
er, this time thi
‘care’ is not being
followed, as with-
out consideration,
random parts are
being removed, af-
fecting the totality
of the subject.
Changes have
been made in many
NCERT books. The
chapters about the
rulers of the Delhi
Sultanate and the
Mughal period have
been shortened. But
shortening does not
mean that chapters
are written anew,
only random parts
have been removed.
Its purpose is that
students do not
know or know little
about certain
things. Instead, it
would have been
better if they were
rewritten about
those subjects in an
objective way. It
helps the students
to form their own
point of view. Even
if the BJP has to
make history and
political science
books according to
its ideology, then
writing every chap-
ter anew was a bet-
ter solution. Just
like the books
made during the
Congress rule also
have a chapter on
Emergency.
DOES BJP NOT KNOW THE SUBTLE, STRATEGIC
WAY OF CHANGING CONTENT IN BOOKS?

New Delhi (PTI): The
Indian media and en-
tertainment industry
is expected to grow at a
CAGR of 8.8% and
reach `4.30 lakh crore
by 2026, according to a
report by global consul-
tancy firm PwC.
The growth would be
paced by digital media
and advertising
through deeper pene-
tration of the internet
and mobile devices in
the domestic market,
along with traditional
media, which will hold
their steady growth,
the report said.
TV advertising is ex-
pected to reach over
`43,000 crore by 2026. It
will make India the
fifth-largest TV adver-
tising market globally,
after the US, Japan,
China and the UK.
The Indian media
and entertainment in-
dustry is expected to
be around `3.14 crore
in 2022, registering an
overall growth of
11.4%, as per the
PwC’s Global Enter-
tainment Media
Outlook 2022-2026.
India’s OTT Video
services are expected
to become a `21,031
crore industry in the
next four years by 2026,
in which `19,973 crore
would come from sub-
scription-based servic-
es and `1,058 crore from
Transactional VOD
(video on demand).
“It is subscription
services that are driv-
ing this rapid growth,
accounting for 90.5% of
revenue in 2021 and set
to account for 95% in
2026,” it said.
The population size
and widespread use of
mobile-led Internet
video will underpin
rapid growth in the
OTT market over the
forecast period.
In particular, up-
take of 5G will permit
low-latency services
such as OTT video
streams, greatly boost-
ing the sector.

...ON THE BACK OF BETTER AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION
New Delhi (PTI):
The Indian econo-
my can grow by
7-7.8% this fiscal on
the back of better
agriculture produc-
tion and a revital-
ised rural economy
amid global head-
winds mainly due
to the ongoing Rus-
sia-Ukraine war,
eminent econo-
mists said.
Eminent econo-
mist and BR Ambed-
kar School of Eco-
nomics (BASE) Vice-
Chancellor NR Bha-
numurthy said at
present Indian econ-
omy is facing multi-
ple headwinds large-
ly from external
sources.
Noting that global
inflationary pres-
sures and the Russia-
Ukraine war have
brought in risks to
the economy, which
is otherwise strong
with all the domes-
tic macro funda-
mentals being well
managed, he said
unlike advanced
economies, India’s
Covid stimulus
measures, especially
the fiscal policy in-
terventions, are less
inflationary and
rather growth-en-
hancing. “With bet-
ter agricultural pro-
duction and revital-
ised rural economy
India should touch
7% growth in the
current year despite
global headwinds,”
Bhanumurthy said.
Echoing similar
views, eminent econ-
omist and ISID direc-
tor Nagesh Kumar
said the high-fre-
quency indicators
point to a robust
growth momentum
carrying through
2022-23 with a real
GDP growth some-
where between
7-7.8%. French econ-
omist Guy Sorman
said India could be
severely impacted by
the high cost of en-
ergy and fertilis-
er imports.
Global headwinds pose risks
New Delhi (PTI):
The World Bank has
cut India’s economic
growth forecast for
the current fiscal
to 7.5% as rising
inflation, supply
chain disruptions,
and geopolitical ten-
sions taper recovery.
India’s economy grew
8.7% in the last fiscal
(2021-22) against
a 6.6% contrac-
tion in the previous
year. Nagesh Kumar
noted that the global
headwinds of rising
commodity prices
do pose downside
risks for the Indian
economic outlook
as the CPI levels
are elevated. “Yet,
I do not think that
India is heading
towards stagflation,
given that the growth
momentum seems
quite robust,” Kumar
argued. According to
Guy Sorman, inflation
has become a global
phenomenon, caused
by unanimous poor
money management,
an excess of public
expenses (largely
justified to compen-
sate for Covid-19),
and low-interest
rates. “The monetary
bubble is exploding
everywhere. India
is not different,” he
pointed out.
Govt aim to keep
FY23 fiscal deficit
at 2021 level
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): India’s govern-
ment will not be able to
cut its budget deficit
this fiscal year as previ-
ously projected, offi-
cials said, but will seek
to cap the shortfall at
last year’s level to pre-
vent a major deteriora-
tion in public finances.
Efforts to maintain
some fiscal discipline
reflect New Delhi’s
concern around risks
to its sovereign credit
rating but will likely
limit the government’s
firepower to contain
inflation and provide
relief to households
and businesses.
In February, Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi’s government set
a fiscal deficit target
of 6.4% of gross do-
mestic output (GDP)
for the year that start-
ed on April 1, com-
pared with a deficit of
6.7% last year.
The sources said that
while increased spend-
ing to provide relief
from inflation meant
the government would
miss this year’s target,
policymakers would
seek to limit the devia-
tion to 30 basis points.
“We will try to con-
tain the slippage to last
year’s levels,” one of
the officials said.

SUSHIL BATRA
New Delhi (ANI): A
Public Interest Litiga-
tion (PIL) has been
moved in Delhi High
Court seeking direction
to Centre Government
to change the Call Sign
‘VT’ written on Indian
aircraft which stands
for ‘Victorian Territory
and Viceroy Territory’.
The plea stated that,
even after 75 years of
Independence, VT,
which is a sign of slav-
ery, still exists.
The petitioner Ash-
wini Kumar Upadhyay,
practising advocate and
BJP leader stated that
Britain set the prefix
‘VT’ for India before the
partition in 1929.
“The British set the
code for all the colonies
starting with V
. Howev-
er, countries like China,
Pakistan, Nepal and Sri
Lanka changed their
codes later. While in In-
dia, the prefix has re-
mained on the aircraft
even after 93 years,
which offends the right
to dignity of citizens,”
the plea stated.
The plea further stat-
ed that the use of the
VT symbol denotes us
still being Victorian
Territory and Viceroy
Territory, which is true
but the government re-
fuses to get it changed
or even make an effort
even after 75 years of
Independence. The peti-
tioner submits that
most of the countries
which went through co-
lonial servitude have
got rid of their colonial
signs and launched na-
tionalist code. ‘VT’ is
not a symbol of pride
but a matter of shame,
if we are still using it
when our nation is free.
PIL in Delhi HC, seeks removal of Call Sign ‘VT’
SIGN OF SLAVERY
PETITIONER QUESTIONS
BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay further
states in the petition that even our Prime Minister
travels to other nations to meet world leaders in
Air India One B747-437, with a call sign VT-EVB.
“Is the Prime Minister a leader of a free demo-
cratic country or of a Viceroy Territory? Pakistan
had their call sign changed to AP after bifurcation.
Similarly, Bahamas changed the sign from ‘VP-B’
to ‘C6’, Nepal changed to ‘9N’, Sri Lanka from
‘VP-C’ to ‘4R’ and Zimbabwe from ‘VP-W’ to ‘Z’,”
it stated.

Chief Minister Ashok

state government’s pri-
ority is to strengthen
the road network in the

any compromise on the
quality of road con-

Gehlot chaired the re-

. He direct-
ed to complete all the
budget announcements
related to dept in a time-
ly and quality manner
as well as to do work of
non-patchable roads on
priority
.
He said, “Govern-

pair and upgrade the
damaged roads. Ade-
quate provision has
been made in the budg-
et for the construction
of roads in the state, so
that excellent roads are
built in the state. Pre-
sent govt has done man-
ifold work in compari-
son to the previous govt
during the tenure of 3
years and 4 months. Out
of these, we have spent
`20,126 crore on devel-
opment of 44,613 km of
roads in comparison to
last govt’s `15,383 crore.
At the same time, in the
upgradation and renew-
al of rural roads, works
of 31,686 kms have been
done as compared to
14,896 kms. This has
given impetus to rural
development by provid-
ing roads to the village
panchayat headquar-
ters.” The Chief Minis-
ter further added, “10
ROBs have been con-
structed in the present
government, whereas
only 4 were built in the

class of voters”. It said
the letter of the return-

The commission con-
demns such behaviour
by the officers during

In a strongly-worded
letter to the chief elec-
toral officer of Punjab,
the EC expressed “dis-

MARITAL BLUES
SHOWING
AFFECTION
guest at a wed-
ding observed
the bride and the
b r i d e g r o o m
warmly exchang-
ing loving glanc-
es and tenderly holding
on to each other! No one
could deny that they
were deeply in love! As
the newlyweds graceful-
ly moved together, the
guest wondered how long
would their marriage
stand the test of time? As
the years go by, will their
love deepen or will it take
wings and fly away?
What happens to
“love” after one gets mar-
ried? One husband said,
“It was wonderful before
we got married, but
somehow after the wed-
ding, it fell apart. All the
love I thought I had for
her and the love she
seemed to have for me
evaporated.”
When it is unswerving
and enduring, the love be-
tween a man and a wom-
an can truly be beautiful.
Since there are so many
breakups, one can realis-
tically ask, whether last-
ing love is possible!
The true and abiding
love between marriage
partners includes affec-
tion and attachment.
Thus, love is best sensed
when it is expressed. So,
one must not allow the
activities of daily life to
prevent one from show-
ing affection. It conveys
to the other person care
and protection – any
problem one faces is im-
portant to the other. It
makes the marriage
flourish. The pleasant
memories of expressed
affection enhance the un-
failing quality of love.
Someshowlessaffection
as the years go by
. Just as
foodisessentialinkeeping
the body healthy
, affection
strengthens the marriage.
Even after decades of be-
ingmarried,husbandsand
wives need regular reas-
surance from each other
that they are cared for and
valued each day
.
Using words like, “you
are beautiful!” or “pre-
cious” can make the part-
ner feel cherished. Affec-
tion can also be shown in
writing through text mes-
sages and e-mails. A lov-
ing glance, an occasional
gift, supporting one an-
other and doing different
tasks together can nour-
ish the relationship.
At times, busy hus-
bands and wives regu-
larly plan ‘date nights’ or
‘date weekends’ to be to-
gether. They treat their
partner as lovingly as
they did when they were
first dating. One can even
plan to do something as
simple as taking regular
walks - just the two of
them together.
Each person is unique
in his or her need for af-
fection. Rather than de-
manding affection, one
can ask oneself, ‘what
can I do to make my part-
ner feel more affection-
ate towards me?”
Sincere expressions
that enhance the self-
worth of one’s partner
are reinforcing. When
one makes his / her part-
ner feel important, any
misunderstanding, if
there is, melts and helps
them bare the depths of
their heart.
One husband candidly
admits, “I became emo-
tionally involved with
my work. When I would
come home, all I wanted
was to talk about the ex-
citing challenges of my
job. Though I would give
a casual hug to my wife,
my mind would be on
something else.”
Theresult–hiswifefelt
neglected and left out
since her husband was
insensitive to her emo-
tions. After a while, the
wifenolongercaredwhen
her husband poured out
his problems and she
would respond with indif-
ference. She distanced
herself emotionally
. De-
spite his being an able
provider and she, a capa-
ble mother, they had de-
prived each other of one
basic need – affection.
Lack of affection deep-
ly hurts as it makes a
husband and wife stran-
gers to each other emo-
tionally. One’s self-confi-
dence gets shattered.
Some partners suffer in
silence as if all is well.
But the body feels what
the brain chooses to ig-
nore. Constant pain,
headaches, knotted stom-
ach and depression re-
sult due to unresolved
conflicts and lack of to-
getherness.
Another husband ex-
pressed his feelings, “I
noticed when we were
alone, my wife showed
very little enthusiasm.
But as soon as someone
called or visited, she
would become excited,
ignoring me completely.
She acted as if she pre-
ferred the company of
others. I was crushed.”
A person may hesitate
to express his or her emo-
tional needs because of
fear of rejection or disil-
lusionment. Trying to
discern what is behind
the partner’s remarks
helps. Why is he/she tell-
ing me this? Is it due to
lack of affection or mere
thoughtlessness? Is extra
time needed to soothe
and ease matters?
By creating some qual-
ity time each day and by
sharing small everyday
happenings, understand-
ing improves in mar-
riage. Little things mean
a lot. They cement last-
ing relationships.
Thoughtful words, glanc-
es or meaningful actions
mean so much in keeping
the partnership warm.
Small expressions of
trust and dependability

The Ra- jinder Nagar assembly seat fell vacant after AAP leader Raghav Chadha was elected to Rajya Sabha recently. Several voters alleged no developmental work was un- dertaken in the constituency. “I voted for development, which this constituency lacks. Issues of water supply, parking and encroachment need to be fixed. I believe people are voting on development issues,” Gurjeet Singh, who came to exercise his franchise at a Rajinder Nagar R Block polling station, told PTI. Shortage of po- table water emerged as a key issue across the Rajinder Nagar constituency. In posh colonies of the area, issues of development, vehicle parking and encroachment are prevalent, several voters claimed. Vehicu- lar pollution leads to deterioration of air quality during the winter months, he added. On June 15, the Delhi government had written to its neighbouring states, including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, urging them to allow only BS VI-compliant buses to enter the na- tional capital from October 1 in order to help control air pol- lution in the city . The request was made to deal with the problem of ve- hicular pollution in the city, which offi- cials here indicated, is contributed to in part by vehicles com- ing from the neigh- bouring state of Haryana. The national capi- tal witnesses high levels of air pollu- tion in the winter months from Octo- ber due to a multi- tude of factors, in- cluding stubble burning and vehicu- lar traffic. —REPRESENTATIVE IMAGE POLLUTION CURB Sisodia pulls up PWD staff in surprise check New Delhi: A surprise inspection of the road stretch between ITO and Tilak Bridge on Wednes- day led Deputy Chief Minister Manish Siso- dia to issue a warning to Public Works Depart- ment (PWD) officials for lack of maintenance. Officials said Sisodia found that the road, foot over bridges, and road aesthetics were poorly maintained. “We are de- termined to make roads of Delhi beautiful and commuter friendly . Any laxity on the part of of- ficials will not be toler- ated,” Sisodia said. Sisodia took over the PWD after Satyendar Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directo- rate in an alleged money laundering case. Sisodia inspected road markings and lifts for skywalk near Tilak Bridge. New Delhi (Agencies): The Delhi government is planning to extend the 20% discount of- fered on circle rates of properties in the nation- al Capital for six more months, officials said. On February 5, 2021, the Delhi government had reduced circle rates for all categories of properties-- residential, commercial and indus- trial-- by 20% till Sep- tember 30, 2021. The government’s de- cision was aimed at boosting the economy in the national Capital after it came to a stand- still during the Covid-19 pandemic-induced lock- down. Since September 2021, the relaxation has been extended several times and the current extension is valid till June 30, 2022. “A proposal is being sent to chief minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal and lieutenant governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxe- na to extend the 20% dis- count on circle rates for six more months.,” Del- hi’s revenue minister Kailash Gahlot said. New Delhi (PTI): Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on Thursday ac- cused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of “skipping” crucial meetings of the NDMC and being “indifferent” towards people’s wel- fare in his New Delhi Assembly constituency . No immediate reac- tion to Gupta’s accusa- tion was available from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. At a press conference, Gupta claimed that Kejri- wal attended only one of the 21 Jan Suvidha meets held in his constituency. This shows his “indiffer- ence” towards his con- stituents, he charged. The Delhi BJP presi- dent claimed that the chief minister was ab- sent in four meetings of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Water supply to big Centre-run hospitals in the NDMC area was re- duced by the Delhi gov- ernment. “Earlier, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) used to supply 124 MLD of water to these hospi- tals which have now been scaled down to 75 MLD,” he alleged. In an NDMC meeting on Wednesday , NDMC member and Delhi BJP generalsecretaryKuljeet Chahal had moved a res- olution to declare Kejri- wal’s seat in the council “vacant”, citing his ab- sencefromfourconsecu- tive meetings without permission. The resolu- tion was moved during the civic body’s council meeting. Kejriwal is a memberof theNDMCby virtue of being the New Delhi MLA. • 3. INDIA NEW DELHI | FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 2022 03 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Sharat K Verma New Delhi: An inter- esting post was seen in social media that the fight that Congress should have contested in courts is being fought on streets and the fight which should be fought on the streets, is being fought on social media! When Rahul Gandhi was called by the En- forcement Directorate (ED) for questioning about the alleged irreg- ularities in the Nation- al Herald case, the en- tire Congress party took to the streets. Keep in mind this matter is very old and the Con- gress has gone to the Supreme Court to get the matter dismissed. But even in the court it did not get relief. This case was also started by Subramanian Swamy, who had once brought down the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee by upporting Jay- alalithaa with Sonia Gandhi. So it is not a very simple matter of political revenge of the government. So when all the top leaders of Congress came out on the road, their message went that Congress leaders are de- voted to only one family . Their allegiance is not to the people, but to the family. Secondly, the BJP also got an opportu- nity to say that the Con- gress party is agitating to defend the Nehru- Gandhi family in the matter of corruption. In fact, the Congress has to fight this battle in court. Congress should remember how the SIT set up for the Gujarat riots questioned the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi for hours. Modi had qui- etly gone to the SIT’s of- fice and joined the inter- rogation. If instead of taking to the road in protest against Rahul’s appearance before the ED, Congress would have taken to the road in protest against the bulldozers going on people’s homes in Ut- tar Pradesh or strug- gled on the road like this on the issue of in- flation, poverty and unemployment, com- mon people would con- nect more with it. But the Congress party is fighting all such bat- tles on Twitter. Congress’ bizarre strategy: Fight real issues on social media, protest against ‘first family’s’ issues on roads! FROM PAGE -1 The government is working to promote ease of doing business and boost exports, Modi said adding new domes- tic products like hand- looms are reaching new markets. Underlining the role of increasing exports in the transition of a coun- try from developing to developed country, Modi said that in the last eight years, India has been continuously increasing its exports. Better policies to in- crease exports, easing of the process, and tak- ing products to new markets, have helped a lot in this direction, he said adding today, every department of the gov- ernment is giving prior- ity to increasing ex- ports with a ‘whole of government’ approach. “Exports from new areas are increasing. Even from many aspira- tional districts, exports have now increased manifold. The increase in exports of cotton and handloom products by 55 per cent shows how the work is being done at the grassroot level,” he said. Now many of the do- mestic products are be- ing exported for the first time to new coun- tries, he said citing ex- amples like Sitabhog Mithai being exported to Bahrain, Fresh King Chilli of Nagaland to London, Fresh Bur- mese grapes of Assam to Dubai, tribal Mahua products from Chattis- garh to France and Khumani of Kargil to Dubai. He also referred to trade deals signed with the UAE and Australia last year and informed that there has been a lot of progress on talks for similar pacts with other countries as well. “For business, identi- fying new markets and manufacturing prod- ucts after identifying their needs is very im- portant for the progress of the country”, he said. He also requested every department to pe- riodically review the portals and platforms that have been devel- oped in recent times. PM MODI INAUGURATES NEW ‘VANIJYA BHAWAN’ PREMISES The Bhawan is designed as a smart building and constructed near the India Gate Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates ‘Vanijya Bhawan’ and launches the NIRYAT Portal, in Delhi on Thursday. Union Minister for Commerce, Industry Piyush Goyal is also seen. New Delhi (PTI): Hailing as “historic” the BJP-led NDA’s deci- sion to name Draupadi Murmu as its presi- dential poll candidate, the Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ash- ram on Thursday ap- pealed to all parties to elect her unanimously and show commitment towards the all-round progress of the tribal communities. In a statement in Hindi, the RSS affili- ate said the tribal soci- ety had to suffer ne- glect for years despite being an integral part of the Indian tradition and culture as well as the bearer of a glori- ous tradition. With the country being home to over 12 crore tribals, Mur- mu’s nomination as the NDA candidate is a move towards bringing a social change, it stated. NDA’S nominee for president Droupadi Murmu reached the national capital from Bhubaneswar on Thursday, a day be- fore she files her nomination papers for the post. Her nomination pa- pers are being pre- pared at Parliamenta- ry Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi’s resi- dence, sources said Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu with NDAs Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu (R) in New Delhi on Thursday. New Delhi (PTI): As India elects its next president on July 18, the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will not be a part of the exercise for the sec- ond time in the history of the election to the top con- stitutional post. There have been precedents of legisla- tive assemblies of states not being part of the prez polls on account of their dissolution, the first such instance being of Gujarat in 1974. Murmu is on course to be elected as the next President, first tribal to assume the country’s highest constitutional office. SPIRITUAL SPEAK Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools. —Bible IN-DEPTH haratiya Janata Par- ty has outplayed the Opposition by field- ing Draupadi Mur- mu, former Jharkhand Governor, as its can- didate for Presidential poll. The choice helps its tribal push and is acceptable to its allies. Mur- mu is the first tribal, a Santhal, and the second woman after Pratibha Patil to be in line to succeed Ram Nath Kovind in Rashtrapati Bhawan. Being from Odisha, Murmu has the support of Biju Janata Dal. She also has the backing of YSRCP of Andhra Pradesh which gives BJP the confidence of winning the contest. The only doubt is about Jharkhand Mukti Morcha but it is likely to vote for Murmu much against the wishes of Con- gress, JMM’s ally in Jharkhand. If JMM votes for Murmu the Opposition will have to rework its strategy for unity but only after the Presidential election is over. In the meantime, Opposi- tion’s candidate Yashwant Sin- ha, the former Union Finance Minister, will be disappointed at not getting JMM’s votes which he is hopeful of. TOP TWEETS B knath Shinde has upstaged his lead- er Uddhav Thack- eray . Well, almost. The Shiv Sena leg- islator has weaned away 42 MLAs, including some Inde- pendents, and has technically reduced the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to a mi- noritywithonly15MLAs.The numbers with Eknath Shinde are more than required to avoid the anti-defection law. Shinde’s next move should be to approach Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to call for a floor test. Bringing down the MVA government is ostensi- bly not the purpose of the re- bellion. Shinde group wants Thackeray to part company withtheNationalistCongress Party and the Congress as ideologically Shiv Sena is closertotheBharatiyaJanata Party . In a conciliatory move Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut has asked the rebels to return to Mumbai and the party will consider their condition. Having gone this far, what will Eknath Shinde’s next move be? He is keeping eve- ryone guessing on that even as Uddhav Thackeray left the official CM’s residence and moved to Matoshree from where Shiv Sena drew its strength when Balasaheb Thackeray was alive. The demand to break ties with the NCP and Congress is a reminder of the 2019 events E INDIA-SOUTH AFRICA T20 SERIES MAJOR GAINS BUT SOME WORRIES TOO FOR TEAM INDIA! fter a phenomenal comeback from being 2-0 down and the series decider on the line, the Indian team watched Rain Gods playing spoilsport in Bengaluru last Sunday . The India-SouthAfricaT20Iseries ended with 2 wins apiece. Cricketloverswerehopingfor a cracker of a contest in the finalmatchbutthatwasnotto be as the game was called off with barely three overs bowled in the series decider. Despite ending on a disap- pointing note, the series had several positive takeaways for the Men in Blue ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year. COMEBACK BY DINESH KARTHIK The remarkable comeback by Dinesh Karthik was the most heart-warming aspect for In- dian fans. Enjoying a second windtohiscareer,Karthikhad returned to Team India after three years on the back of somesterlingperformancesin theIPL.Butmanywonderedif he could replicate his IPL suc- cess in Indian colours against a strong South African side. Karthik, however, carried his IPL form into the interna- tional arena and scored at a hugely impressive rate of 158.62 against the Proteas. Warming up with an unbeat- en 30 off 21 balls in the sec- ond match, Karthik smashed a magical 55 off 27 balls in the fourth game. Given his power-packed shows, voices are growing for Karthik’s in- clusion in the T20 World Cup squad as many believe that he can play the role of fin- isher to near-perfection. HARDIK PANDYA’S PERFORMANCE Like Karthik, Hardik Pandya too made an impactful return to Team India. After leading Gujarat Titans to victory in IPL 2022, Hardik made cru- cialcontributionsallthrough the series. After a blistering 31 off 12 balls in the opening game in Delhi, he hit another 30-plus score in the game at Vizag. Also, in the Rajkot game, he made a vital 46 off 31 balls enabling India to re- cover from a dicey 81 for four. Another major plus is Is- han Kishan’s form. Despite being the costliest buy in the IPL auction at 15.25 crores, the young opener was rather unimpressive in the Mumbai Indians’ disastrous IPL cam- paign this year. But the tal- ented left-hander turned things around against South Africa and was the top run- getter, hammering 206 runs at an average of 41.20 and a terrific strike rate of 150.36. ON THE BOWLING SIDE On the bowling side, veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar posed a lot of challenges to South African batters. Till a few months ago, Bhuvi’s abil- ity to swing the ball seemed to have gone missing and his place in Team India appeared doubtful. But he rediscov- ered his bite and stifled most Proteas batters and was even- tually named the ‘Player of the Series’. If Bhuvi looked like a bowler reborn, Harshal Patel was also impressive and can aspire for a T20 World Cup berth. Besides bagging seven wickets, it was great to see how he learnt from his mis- takes. Even young pacer Avesh Khan displayed his wares with skill. Despite some former cricketers ask- ing for his exit from the play- ing XI, the team management stood firm and Avesh repaid their trust in Rajkot by bag- ging 4/18 in a hostile spell and seems ready to serve In- dian cricket in the long run. Beyond the positives, there were a few areas of concern as well. Rishabh Pant’s form was possibly the biggest wor- ry . The middle-order was a point of concern as not only Pant but even Shreyas Iyer keptstrugglingtostrikeform. As the first-choice T20I wick- et-keeper currently, Pant’s form is worrying and as the stand-in skipper too, his cap- taincy left a lot to be desired. SELECTION OF PLAYERS Inaddition,thesame11players were picked for all five match- es, with stability being the name of the game. The refusal to change players implied that youngseamerslikepacesensa- tionUmranMalikandleft-arm Arshdeep Singh didn’t play a singlegame.Whileconsistency in selections is a laudable poli- cy , both the young pacers de- served a look in. In particular, denying a debut to 22-year-old Umran who regularly clocked over 150 in IPL games, seems like a major chance missed on home grounds. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL A Overall, squaring a series with South Africa despite the absence of several stars like Rohit, Virat, K L Rahul, Bumrah and Jadeja seems an impressive feat. Under Rahul Dravid’s mentorship, Team India sure seems to be moving in the right direction to come up trumps in the T20 World Cup in Australia. The nucleus of a strong squad and players who could get World Cup spots seems to be progressing smoothly After a phenomenal comeback from being 2-0 down and the series decider on the line, the Indian team watched Rain Gods playing spoilsport in Bengaluru last Sunday. INDIA NEW DELHI | FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 2022 05 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre and the BJP govern- ments in many states are changing books on history and some other subjects. Political science books are also being changed. It is not that books are being changed for the first time but for the first time books are be- ing changed in such an calm and easy manner. Ear- lier there was a pro- cess to replace the books. A team of writers and editors worked on it. The changes were made keeping in mind the totality of the subject. Care was taken that the change in the book of a subject should be in such a way that in spite of the change, it would be consistent. It should not seem that suddenly something has been removed in the middle. Howev- er, this time thi ‘care’ is not being followed, as with- out consideration, random parts are being removed, af- fecting the totality of the subject. Changes have been made in many NCERT books. The chapters about the rulers of the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal period have been shortened. But shortening does not mean that chapters are written anew, only random parts have been removed. Its purpose is that students do not know or know little about certain things. Instead, it would have been better if they were rewritten about those subjects in an objective way. It helps the students to form their own point of view. Even if the BJP has to make history and political science books according to its ideology, then writing every chap- ter anew was a bet- ter solution. Just like the books made during the Congress rule also have a chapter on Emergency. DOES BJP NOT KNOW THE SUBTLE, STRATEGIC WAY OF CHANGING CONTENT IN BOOKS? BJP has gone blind for power. There is flood in Assam, PM should visit the state, announce special package but he is busy toppling Maha- rashtra govt, Or only power is everything for the BJP in the Gu- jarat elections, said Cong MP Gaurav Go- goi. Bengaluru (ANI): Kar- nataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai set out on Thursday for his eleventh visit to New Delhi since taking over less than a year ago. The sudden, one-day visit following sum- mons issued by the BJP leadership on Wednes- day afternoon has given rise to fresh speculation of changes in the state Cabinet. While the offi- cial travel plan has meetings scheduled with Union ministers, Bommai himself did not comment on the purpose of the visit, un- like in the past. Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office indicated that the official purpose was that Bommai was to be among the proposers of NDA presidential can- didate Droupadi Mur- mu. She is expected to file her nomination on Friday. Bommai was in Delhi most recently on June 17, where he at- tended a private event. At the time, Bommai had returned after just meeting Karnataka in- charge Arun Singh and speaking to Home Minister Amit Shah on the phone. • 7. BIZ BUZZ NEW DELHI | FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 2022 06 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia New Delhi (PTI): The Indian media and en- tertainment industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% and reach `4.30 lakh crore by 2026, according to a report by global consul- tancy firm PwC. The growth would be paced by digital media and advertising through deeper pene- tration of the internet and mobile devices in the domestic market, along with traditional media, which will hold their steady growth, the report said. TV advertising is ex- pected to reach over `43,000 crore by 2026. It will make India the fifth-largest TV adver- tising market globally, after the US, Japan, China and the UK. The Indian media and entertainment in- dustry is expected to be around `3.14 crore in 2022, registering an overall growth of 11.4%, as per the PwC’s Global Enter- tainment Media Outlook 2022-2026. India’s OTT Video services are expected to become a `21,031 crore industry in the next four years by 2026, in which `19,973 crore would come from sub- scription-based servic- es and `1,058 crore from Transactional VOD (video on demand). “It is subscription services that are driv- ing this rapid growth, accounting for 90.5% of revenue in 2021 and set to account for 95% in 2026,” it said. The population size and widespread use of mobile-led Internet video will underpin rapid growth in the OTT market over the forecast period. In particular, up- take of 5G will permit low-latency services such as OTT video streams, greatly boost- ing the sector. BOOM BY YEAR 2026 Media industry likely to touch `4.30 lakh cr India to grow by 7-7.8% in FY23:Experts ...ON THE BACK OF BETTER AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION New Delhi (PTI): The Indian econo- my can grow by 7-7.8% this fiscal on the back of better agriculture produc- tion and a revital- ised rural economy amid global head- winds mainly due to the ongoing Rus- sia-Ukraine war, eminent econo- mists said. Eminent econo- mist and BR Ambed- kar School of Eco- nomics (BASE) Vice- Chancellor NR Bha- numurthy said at present Indian econ- omy is facing multi- ple headwinds large- ly from external sources. Noting that global inflationary pres- sures and the Russia- Ukraine war have brought in risks to the economy, which is otherwise strong with all the domes- tic macro funda- mentals being well managed, he said unlike advanced economies, India’s Covid stimulus measures, especially the fiscal policy in- terventions, are less inflationary and rather growth-en- hancing. “With bet- ter agricultural pro- duction and revital- ised rural economy India should touch 7% growth in the current year despite global headwinds,” Bhanumurthy said. Echoing similar views, eminent econ- omist and ISID direc- tor Nagesh Kumar said the high-fre- quency indicators point to a robust growth momentum carrying through 2022-23 with a real GDP growth some- where between 7-7.8%. French econ- omist Guy Sorman said India could be severely impacted by the high cost of en- ergy and fertilis- er imports. Global headwinds pose risks New Delhi (PTI): The World Bank has cut India’s economic growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7.5% as rising inflation, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical ten- sions taper recovery. India’s economy grew 8.7% in the last fiscal (2021-22) against a 6.6% contrac- tion in the previous year. Nagesh Kumar noted that the global headwinds of rising commodity prices do pose downside risks for the Indian economic outlook as the CPI levels are elevated. “Yet, I do not think that India is heading towards stagflation, given that the growth momentum seems quite robust,” Kumar argued. According to Guy Sorman, inflation has become a global phenomenon, caused by unanimous poor money management, an excess of public expenses (largely justified to compen- sate for Covid-19), and low-interest rates. “The monetary bubble is exploding everywhere. India is not different,” he pointed out. Govt aim to keep FY23 fiscal deficit at 2021 level New Delhi (Agen- cies): India’s govern- ment will not be able to cut its budget deficit this fiscal year as previ- ously projected, offi- cials said, but will seek to cap the shortfall at last year’s level to pre- vent a major deteriora- tion in public finances. Efforts to maintain some fiscal discipline reflect New Delhi’s concern around risks to its sovereign credit rating but will likely limit the government’s firepower to contain inflation and provide relief to households and businesses. In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government set a fiscal deficit target of 6.4% of gross do- mestic output (GDP) for the year that start- ed on April 1, com- pared with a deficit of 6.7% last year. The sources said that while increased spend- ing to provide relief from inflation meant the government would miss this year’s target, policymakers would seek to limit the devia- tion to 30 basis points. “We will try to con- tain the slippage to last year’s levels,” one of the officials said. The plea stated that, even after 75 years of Independence, VT, which is a sign of slav- ery, still exists. The petitioner Ash- wini Kumar Upadhyay, practising advocate and BJP leader stated that Britain set the prefix ‘VT’ for India before the partition in 1929. “The British set the code for all the colonies starting with V . Howev- er, countries like China, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka changed their codes later. While in In- dia, the prefix has re- mained on the aircraft even after 93 years, which offends the right to dignity of citizens,” the plea stated. The plea further stat- ed that the use of the VT symbol denotes us still being Victorian Territory and Viceroy Territory, which is true but the government re- fuses to get it changed or even make an effort even after 75 years of Independence. The peti- tioner submits that most of the countries which went through co- lonial servitude have got rid of their colonial signs and launched na- tionalist code. ‘VT’ is not a symbol of pride but a matter of shame, if we are still using it when our nation is free. PIL in Delhi HC, seeks removal of Call Sign ‘VT’ SIGN OF SLAVERY PETITIONER QUESTIONS BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay further states in the petition that even our Prime Minister travels to other nations to meet world leaders in Air India One B747-437, with a call sign VT-EVB. “Is the Prime Minister a leader of a free demo- cratic country or of a Viceroy Territory? Pakistan had their call sign changed to AP after bifurcation. Similarly, Bahamas changed the sign from ‘VP-B’ to ‘C6’, Nepal changed to ‘9N’, Sri Lanka from ‘VP-C’ to ‘4R’ and Zimbabwe from ‘VP-W’ to ‘Z’,” it stated. MARITAL BLUES SHOWING AFFECTION guest at a wed- ding observed the bride and the b r i d e g r o o m warmly exchang- ing loving glanc- es and tenderly holding on to each other! No one could deny that they were deeply in love! As the newlyweds graceful- ly moved together, the guest wondered how long would their marriage stand the test of time? As the years go by, will their love deepen or will it take wings and fly away? What happens to “love” after one gets mar- ried? One husband said, “It was wonderful before we got married, but somehow after the wed- ding, it fell apart. All the love I thought I had for her and the love she seemed to have for me evaporated.” When it is unswerving and enduring, the love be- tween a man and a wom- an can truly be beautiful. Since there are so many breakups, one can realis- tically ask, whether last- ing love is possible! The true and abiding love between marriage partners includes affec- tion and attachment. Thus, love is best sensed when it is expressed. So, one must not allow the activities of daily life to prevent one from show- ing affection. It conveys to the other person care and protection – any problem one faces is im- portant to the other. It makes the marriage flourish. The pleasant memories of expressed affection enhance the un- failing quality of love. Someshowlessaffection as the years go by . Just as foodisessentialinkeeping the body healthy , affection strengthens the marriage. Even after decades of be- ingmarried, husbandsand wives need regular reas- surance from each other that they are cared for and valued each day . Using words like, “you are beautiful!” or “pre- cious” can make the part- ner feel cherished. Affec- tion can also be shown in writing through text mes- sages and e-mails. A lov- ing glance, an occasional gift, supporting one an- other and doing different tasks together can nour- ish the relationship. At times, busy hus- bands and wives regu- larly plan ‘date nights’ or ‘date weekends’ to be to- gether. They treat their partner as lovingly as they did when they were first dating. One can even plan to do something as simple as taking regular walks - just the two of them together. Each person is unique in his or her need for af- fection. Rather than de- manding affection, one can ask oneself, ‘what can I do to make my part- ner feel more affection- ate towards me?” Sincere expressions that enhance the self- worth of one’s partner are reinforcing. When one makes his / her part- ner feel important, any misunderstanding, if there is, melts and helps them bare the depths of their heart. One husband candidly admits, “I became emo- tionally involved with my work. When I would come home, all I wanted was to talk about the ex- citing challenges of my job. Though I would give a casual hug to my wife, my mind would be on something else.” Theresult–hiswifefelt neglected and left out since her husband was insensitive to her emo- tions. After a while, the wifenolongercaredwhen her husband poured out his problems and she would respond with indif- ference. She distanced herself emotionally . De- spite his being an able provider and she, a capa- ble mother, they had de- prived each other of one basic need – affection. Lack of affection deep- ly hurts as it makes a husband and wife stran- gers to each other emo- tionally. One’s self-confi- dence gets shattered. Some partners suffer in silence as if all is well. But the body feels what the brain chooses to ig- nore. Constant pain, headaches, knotted stom- ach and depression re- sult due to unresolved conflicts and lack of to- getherness. Another husband ex- pressed his feelings, “I noticed when we were alone, my wife showed very little enthusiasm. But as soon as someone called or visited, she would become excited, ignoring me completely. She acted as if she pre- ferred the company of others. I was crushed.” A person may hesitate to express his or her emo- tional needs because of fear of rejection or disil- lusionment. Trying to discern what is behind the partner’s remarks helps. Why is he/she tell- ing me this? Is it due to lack of affection or mere thoughtlessness? Is extra time needed to soothe and ease matters? By creating some qual- ity time each day and by sharing small everyday happenings, understand- ing improves in mar- riage. Little things mean a lot. They cement last- ing relationships. Thoughtful words, glanc- es or meaningful actions mean so much in keeping the partnership warm. Small expressions of trust and dependability can bring deep satisfac- tion and keep the flames of love burning.
