C
ardar Vallabhbhai Patel was
the pioneer of national inte-
gration and an able architect
of AkhandBharat.Alongwith
connecting the farmers and
youth in the freedom move-
ment, he worked to give it a
planned momentum. Not only
this, he along with VP Menon
hadalsodoneanunprecedent-
ed task, just before independ-
ence, to unite India which was
divided into princely states.
By merging 565 small and
bigprincelystatesof thecoun-
try into the Indian Union, he
presented a unique example
of a united India in the world.
I believe that it is Sardar Patel
who has the credit of putting
Satyagraha, which Mahatma
Gandhi had pioneered based
on true non-violence, into
practice and to mobilize the
people of the country on the
basis of it. Gandhi himself
had said in the Karachi ses-
sion in 1930 that Jawaharlal
Nehru is a thinker and Sardar
is a worker.
Patel came close to Gan-
dhiji during Kheda Satyagra-
ha. From that time he started
wearingdhotiandkurta,leav-
ing coat, pants and hat.
The Kheda region of Guja-
rat was then in the grip of
severe drought. Patel sup-
ported the farmers and
fought for them against the
British. With this Satyagra-
ha, his involvement in active
politics started. But its im-
portance is greater in the
sense that it was through Pa-
tel’s satyagraha that the pow-
er of the farmers emerged in
the national independence
movement. The British gov-
ernment finally had to bow
down in front of the satya-
graha led by Sardar Patel and
that year the farmers were
given relief in taxes.
Patel did the important
work of connecting the youth
power in the freedom move-
ment along with the farmers.
Addressing a gathering of
students in Ahmedabad on 28
September 1921, he said that
all students, who want their
self-respect and the self-re-
spect of the nation, should
cooperate in the non-cooper-
ation war while leaving gov-
ernmentcollegesandschools.
He said that a call was there
for the struggle for freedom.
The fight has broken out. At
such a time, everyone should
cooperate for the freedom
movement without paying at-
tention to thoughts like ‘what
will I do’ or ‘what will happen
to me’ etc.
The Bardoli movement led
by Patel has a special role in
the national independence
movement. In the year 1928,
the Bardoli Satyagraha was
carried out in Gujarat be-
cause the provincial govern-
ment had increased the farm-
ers’ rent by thirty percent.
Patel openly opposed this in-
crease in rent. The British
government made every ef-
fort to crush the Satyagraha
movement under his leader-
ship, but in the end, the Brit-
ish government was forced to
bow down to the demands of
the farmers. It was only after
the success of this satyagra-
ha movement led by Sardar
Patal that the women con-
ferred the title of ‘Sardar’ on
Vallabhbhai Patel.
Sardar Patel inspired the
farmers for their own rule by
opposing the heavy taxes im-
posed on them by the British
government. Gandhiji has
rightly explained the inter-
relationship of farmers
struggle and national free-
dom struggle in the context
of Bardoli farmers struggle
that every such struggle, eve-
ry effort by Patel is bringing
us closer to Swaraj. It is also
true that the iron leadership
of Sardar Patel was such in
which the common citizen of
the country was continuous-
ly inspired for independence.
Sardar Patel was a multi-
faceted and versatile person-
ality. His patriotism devoted
to the goal was such, in which
success always came. There
was no artificiality in him
nor did he have any urge to
establish himself. I believe
that he gave a new direction
to the Indian national move-
ment in an ideological and
functional form. Sardar Patel
also knew very well how to
win the heart of the oppo-
nent. With India getting inde-
pendence, he presented a
unique example in history by
integrating the rulers of
princely states in the Indian
Union. Although, initially,
many rulers were angry with
him because of the integra-
tion but due to his patriotism
and intention to do every-
thing for the country
, later all
such rulers became his close
friends. It is said that when
Patel died, many rulers cried
saying that their friend and
protector was gone.
It was Sardar Patel who,
while adopting a practical ap-
proach in the case of Hy-
derabad and Junagadh, did
not hesitate to merge them in
India and took action by
adopting a strong attitude.
Due to this, both these prince-
ly states belong to India today
.
He always looked at the
friendship of China with sus-
picion. National interest was
more important to him than
politics. When Patel went to
Hyderabad for the last time in
1950, he was praised there by
presenting him with a ‘Maan-
patra’. Patel had then said
that it was not the time to give
him the ‘Maanpatra’. He had
said that when a man leaves
the world and goes, the real
certificate is received only
after that, because if a man
does not commit any mistake
till the last day, then his re-
spect remains. That is why
we should pray to God that
till the last breath, we con-
tinue to serve the people with
a pure and selfless spirit.
Sardar Patel passed away
very soon but his dedication
and sacrifice towards the na-
tion, his decisions taken with
firm determination will al-
ways remind us of him. He
was the Iron Man who had
devoted his full strength in
the independence of the
country and later in the con-
struction of Akhand Bharat.
Truly he was a ‘Yugpurush’
(man of age.)

RSS should talk about

New Delhi: Bahujan

tional spokesperson
Sudhindra Bhadoria
hit out at Rashtriya

(RSS) General Secre-
tary Dattatreya Hosab-
ole for his statement on
religious conversion
and said that RSS
should talk about pov-
erty, hunger and other
problems of the coun-
try rather than talking
about discrimination.
Bhadoria said, RSS
talks of discrimination
all the time. It should
talk about the problems
that exist within the
country, which are pov-
erty, hunger, atrocities
against the downtrod-
den people and injus-
tice with women in so-
ciety. I want to say that
RSS should be engaged
in some constructive
work rather than talk-
ing about discrimina-
tion. The BSP national
spokesperson also criti-
cised the Central gov-
ernment for the con-
tinuous rise in petrol
and diesel prices in the
country. Everyday
news is coming that
prices of petrol, diesel
and gas are increasing.
The prices of other es-
sential commodities
are also increasing.

that it will bring 'Achhe

due to the policies of

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/010/2019-21
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: It has been one
year since senior IAS
Akhil Arora took over
the reins of Finance De-
partment. When on No-
vember 1, 2020 he took
over the ‘key’ of the
state treasury, he was
faced with a dilapidated
financial management
of the state owing to
Covid as on one hand
the revenue sources had
dried up, on the other
hand the expenses were
always there.
When in the situation
explained best by Hindi
saying, “Aamdani At-
thani, Kharcha Rupiya”
CM Gehlot selected Aro-
ra to handle the depart-
ment as nominee of CS
Niranjan Arya, the en-
tire bureaucracy was
surprised since at time
only three names were
being discussed for the
position and Arora’s
name did not feature in
them. However, Gehlot
played a ‘gamble’ in se-
lecting 1993 batch IAS
Akhil Arora who was a
member of the ‘core
team’ of the previous
government.
Over the past twelve
months, the examples
of capability, work eth-
cis and talent presented
by Arora go on to prove
that CM Gehlot’s deci-
sion in selecting Arora
was right. More impor-
tantly, word is that Ge-
hlot is so happy and
impressed with his
work style that during
the inauguration of
Prashasan Shehron Ke
Sang campaign he pub-
licly named Arora and
appreciated him.
In fact, Akhil Arora’s
performance has also
been commendable and
he managed to keep the
state away from a finan-
cial trouble with his
clever financial man-
agement abilities. Aro-
raensuredthatexpenses
needed to counter Covid
are not stalled as he
opened up the treasury
for purchase of ma-
chines, equipments and
medicines while also
providing money for
needy families. In addi-
tion he also provided for
a sum of Rs 1,000 crore
forpendingpaymentsof
coal. Furthermore, he
also provided Rs 350
crore for the Roadways
inadditiontoimmediate
payment of DA for the
state employees. Moreo-
ver,hismanagementhas
ensured that there is
enough budget for the
CM Chiranjeevi Beema
Yojna which is going to
start from Novemner 7.
But perhaps another
important aspect is that
as they say one person
can not win a war, in Fi-
naneDepartmenttoothe
saying applies as Arora
does not have a team in
the department who can
walk shoulder to shoul-
derwithhim.Theprepa-
rations for Budget 2022
has been started and
now Secretary (Budget)
Siddharth Mahajan has
left. When Prithvi Raj
couldnotperformonthe
position, Mahajan was
brought in but merely
one month back and
now the search will
have to be started yet
again. Secretary (Ex-
penditure) Naresh
Thakral is still a new
appointee as it has
merely been six months
since he came to the
post. T. Ravikant (Reve-
nue) is posted in the de-
partment for a year and
has a good grasp on the
work. However, in the
coming Jnuary when he
will be promoted to the
rank of Principal Secre-
tary after which he
would have to be trans-
ferred and therefore a
new officer will have to
besearchedforthisspot.
Then there is word of
transferof RaviJainand
Excise Commissioner
Jogaram.
In summation it
can be said that Akhil
Arora would face a
challenge in effective-
ly getting newly ap-
pointed officers to
work in the ‘technical’
Finance Department.
In Gehlot govern-
ment’s present bu-
reaucratic scenario,
where ‘delivery’ has
become a rare visibil-
ity, Arora carries a
‘delivery flagship’ in
day to day functioning
of finance and health
departments.

long for this festival after
the pandemic and
lockdowns and what-not,
but, finally, let’s shower
some some love and lights
at our living place and
make it the perfect
Diwali home!
SUSHMITA AIND
sushmita.aind@firstindia.co.in
eing a Christian, I
have always missed
the charm of per-
forming Pujas at
home, but, that never
stopped me from cel-
ebrating Diwali in a
manner that made it a special
occasion for me. I remember
when I would visit my friends
and help them decorate their
houses, how important it
would be to clean the entire
house and fill it with lights
and colours. Refueling all the
Diyas when the ‘ghee’ would
get over was a task but that
can be taken care of if we use
electric lights which often
come in various designs. Var-
ious scented Diyas and can-
dles add a perfect vibe to the
festive season. Rangolis, the
silent charm of this season,
can be decorated by using
various flowers instead of
just plain colours. If you feel
too artistic, you may also add
Diyas to your Rangolis. For
all the picture perfect mo-
ments, don’t forget to colour
code your decorations and
before anyone enters your
house, make sure to let them
see the positivity reflected
through the Bandarwals
which you may decorate us-
ing tassels and Torans.

BANDHEJ
CHARM
For all those who believe less
is more, Sara’s Bandhej Saree in
shaded orange and yellow is the
perfct pick for you. Coupled with a
blouse in a contrasting colour, this
Saree is fuss-free and very light on
the skin, making for the perfect
Dhanteras look. Add a Potli bag
and some dainty bangles and
voila, you’re all set for
the celebrations.
MILLENNIAL
FESTIVE
Partying with your Veeres call for
bold yet hassle-free attire that lets
you dance your heart out. Opt for
cotton Lehengas in uber-cool prints
and a statement blouse. Add some
chunky oxidised jewellery for that
festive feel. If you’re feeling too filmy,
add a slit to the skirt and throw on
a denim jacket to round-off
your Desi look on just the
Millennial note!
PRETTY
IN PASTEL
Anyone who says pastel isn’t
festive clearly hasn’t met PC! This
one’s for all those who love hopping
onto the trends. Just like her,
throw on a muted fish-cut Lehenga
with a full sleeved blouse for an
understated yet impactful look. Play
around with a bold lip colour,
some diamonds and blow-
dried hair to be the belle of
the ball at every Puja
ceremony.
POP
OF COLOUR
Be a breath of fresh air in an
easy-breezy colourful striped
Lehenga that is so in trend, thanks
to Shilpa. Choose a halter blouse in a
bright hue while you go for neons on
the bottom. A floral fabric is always
a plus! Go for dewy make-up with
glossy lips. Wrap your hair in a
messy updo for a girl-next-door
look and don’t forget to adorn
your bun with some
fresh flowers.
SILK
SIMPLICITY
Ditch the idea that silk adds
age and drape this beautiful fabric
just how Alia Bhatt has done here.
Pair it up with a sleeveless blouse for
a new-age look and add some pretty
Jhumkas to play up the canvas. While
you’re at it, don’t forget to add that
charm with a Bindi and a neutral
lip-shade. Pull back your hair for
a neat look and you’re so
ready for Diwali.
OLD
IS GOLD
Raid your mom’s closet and
pick out a satin Saree from her
golden days. Trust me, it looks so
romantic and the flow of the pleats
is beyond dreamy. Like Madhuri in
Didi Tera Devar Deewana, opt for a
‘Seedha Pallu’. Bring on elegance with
a monochromatic blouse and some
metallic bangles. Add that old-world
charm with a Maang Tikka and
Kanauti earrings from your
family trunk.
BOLD
IN BLACK
If solids are your preferred
palette, opt for a black blouse and
team it up with a blingy gold/silver
Lehenga. You can totally ditch the
Dupatta or drape it as a cape and pose
for the Gram! Go for muted make-up
with bold, smokey eyes. Breakthe
monotonywithemeraldsorrubies.
TrustsleekhairlikeDeepika’s to
let your outfit do the talking
while you ace that card
game!

TOP TWEETS J OP26 has begun in Glasgow, UK, where G20 leaders have gathered to take stock of what hasbeen, andwhatneeds, tobe done to save the climate and, thereby , the humanity from destruction. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Glasgow to let the world know about In- dia’s installed renewable en- ergy , wind and solar energy capacity . The prime minister willtakeupequitabledistribu- tion of carbon space and the need to comprehensively ad- dress climate change issues. It is significant that in the first nine months of 2021, In- dia added 8,811 MW solar ca- pacity and 1246 MW of wind capacity. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, this was 280 percent and 101 percent higher, respec- tively. The achievement of 101 gigawatts in renewable energy is indeed a landmark even though it is still below the target of 175 GW. The brigade of young activ- istsatthevanguardof climate change may not have the time to critically appraise India’s efforts but they are not happy with what some of the other countries are doing. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, for instance, has said that the UK and some other countries do not take into account the emissions from exported fos- sil fuels, international ship- ping or aviation. She was quoted as saying that “UK has an enormous historical re- sponsibility” as that is where the climate crisis started. With more and more drill- ing licences being still given away, Thunberg called the UK’s stand on protecting cli- mate as “hypocritical”. She is joined in her condemna- tion by Uganda’s Vanessa Na- kate. Their strong voice for saving climate though heard may go unheeded. IMPRESSIVE PROGRESS IN RENEWABLE ENERGY In the first nine months of 2021, India added 8,811 MW solar capacity and 1246 MW of wind capacity. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, , this was 280 percent and 101 percent higher, respectively C ardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the pioneer of national inte- gration and an able architect of AkhandBharat.Alongwith connecting the farmers and youth in the freedom move- ment, he worked to give it a planned momentum. Not only this, he along with VP Menon hadalsodoneanunprecedent- ed task, just before independ- ence, to unite India which was divided into princely states. By merging 565 small and bigprincelystatesof thecoun- try into the Indian Union, he presented a unique example of a united India in the world. I believe that it is Sardar Patel who has the credit of putting Satyagraha, which Mahatma Gandhi had pioneered based on true non-violence, into practice and to mobilize the people of the country on the basis of it. Gandhi himself had said in the Karachi ses- sion in 1930 that Jawaharlal Nehru is a thinker and Sardar is a worker. Patel came close to Gan- dhiji during Kheda Satyagra- ha. From that time he started wearingdhotiandkurta,leav- ing coat, pants and hat. The Kheda region of Guja- rat was then in the grip of severe drought. Patel sup- ported the farmers and fought for them against the British. With this Satyagra- ha, his involvement in active politics started. But its im- portance is greater in the sense that it was through Pa- tel’s satyagraha that the pow- er of the farmers emerged in the national independence movement. The British gov- ernment finally had to bow down in front of the satya- graha led by Sardar Patel and that year the farmers were given relief in taxes. Patel did the important work of connecting the youth power in the freedom move- ment along with the farmers. Addressing a gathering of students in Ahmedabad on 28 September 1921, he said that all students, who want their self-respect and the self-re- spect of the nation, should cooperate in the non-cooper- ation war while leaving gov- ernmentcollegesandschools. He said that a call was there for the struggle for freedom. The fight has broken out. At such a time, everyone should cooperate for the freedom movement without paying at- tention to thoughts like ‘what will I do’ or ‘what will happen to me’ etc. The Bardoli movement led by Patel has a special role in the national independence movement. In the year 1928, the Bardoli Satyagraha was carried out in Gujarat be- cause the provincial govern- ment had increased the farm- ers’ rent by thirty percent. Patel openly opposed this in- crease in rent. The British government made every ef- fort to crush the Satyagraha movement under his leader- ship, but in the end, the Brit- ish government was forced to bow down to the demands of the farmers. It was only after the success of this satyagra- ha movement led by Sardar Patal that the women con- ferred the title of ‘Sardar’ on Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel inspired the farmers for their own rule by opposing the heavy taxes im- posed on them by the British government. Gandhiji has rightly explained the inter- relationship of farmers struggle and national free- dom struggle in the context of Bardoli farmers struggle that every such struggle, eve- ry effort by Patel is bringing us closer to Swaraj. It is also true that the iron leadership of Sardar Patel was such in which the common citizen of the country was continuous- ly inspired for independence. Sardar Patel was a multi- faceted and versatile person- ality. His patriotism devoted to the goal was such, in which success always came. There was no artificiality in him nor did he have any urge to establish himself. I believe that he gave a new direction to the Indian national move- ment in an ideological and functional form. Sardar Patel also knew very well how to win the heart of the oppo- nent. With India getting inde- pendence, he presented a unique example in history by integrating the rulers of princely states in the Indian Union. Although, initially, many rulers were angry with him because of the integra- tion but due to his patriotism and intention to do every- thing for the country , later all such rulers became his close friends. It is said that when Patel died, many rulers cried saying that their friend and protector was gone. It was Sardar Patel who, while adopting a practical ap- proach in the case of Hy- derabad and Junagadh, did not hesitate to merge them in India and took action by adopting a strong attitude. Due to this, both these prince- ly states belong to India today . He always looked at the friendship of China with sus- picion. National interest was more important to him than politics. When Patel went to Hyderabad for the last time in 1950, he was praised there by presenting him with a ‘Maan- patra’. Patel had then said that it was not the time to give him the ‘Maanpatra’. He had said that when a man leaves the world and goes, the real certificate is received only after that, because if a man does not commit any mistake till the last day, then his re- spect remains. That is why we should pray to God that till the last breath, we con- tinue to serve the people with a pure and selfless spirit. Sardar Patel passed away very soon but his dedication and sacrifice towards the na- tion, his decisions taken with firm determination will al- ways remind us of him. He was the Iron Man who had devoted his full strength in the independence of the country and later in the con- struction of Akhand Bharat. Truly he was a ‘Yugpurush’ (man of age.) THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL S KALRAJ MISHRA The Governor of Rajasthan I believe that Patel gave a new direction to the Indian national movement in an ideological and functional form. Sardar Patel also knew very well how to win the heart of the opponent. With India getting independence, he presented a unique example in history The British government made every effort to crush the Satyagraha movement under his leadership, but in the end, the British were forced to bow down to the demands. It was only after the success of this satyagraha movement that the women conferred the title of ‘Sardar’ on Vallabhbhai Patel. SARDAR PATEL THEARCHITECT- IRONMANOF AKHANDBHARAT

JPC/010/2019-21 Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: It has been one year since senior IAS Akhil Arora took over the reins of Finance De- partment. When on No- vember 1, 2020 he took over the ‘key’ of the state treasury, he was faced with a dilapidated financial management of the state owing to Covid as on one hand the revenue sources had dried up, on the other hand the expenses were always there. When in the situation explained best by Hindi saying, “Aamdani At- thani, Kharcha Rupiya” CM Gehlot selected Aro- ra to handle the depart- ment as nominee of CS Niranjan Arya, the en- tire bureaucracy was surprised since at time only three names were being discussed for the position and Arora’s name did not feature in them. However, Gehlot played a ‘gamble’ in se- lecting 1993 batch IAS Akhil Arora who was a member of the ‘core team’ of the previous government. Over the past twelve months, the examples of capability, work eth- cis and talent presented by Arora go on to prove that CM Gehlot’s deci- sion in selecting Arora was right. More impor- tantly, word is that Ge- hlot is so happy and impressed with his work style that during the inauguration of Prashasan Shehron Ke Sang campaign he pub- licly named Arora and appreciated him. In fact, Akhil Arora’s performance has also been commendable and he managed to keep the state away from a finan- cial trouble with his clever financial man- agement abilities. Aro- raensuredthatexpenses needed to counter Covid are not stalled as he opened up the treasury for purchase of ma- chines, equipments and medicines while also providing money for needy families. In addi- tion he also provided for a sum of Rs 1,000 crore forpendingpaymentsof coal. Furthermore, he also provided Rs 350 crore for the Roadways inadditiontoimmediate payment of DA for the state employees. Moreo- ver, hismanagementhas ensured that there is enough budget for the CM Chiranjeevi Beema Yojna which is going to start from Novemner 7. But perhaps another important aspect is that as they say one person can not win a war, in Fi- naneDepartmenttoothe saying applies as Arora does not have a team in the department who can walk shoulder to shoul- derwithhim.Theprepa- rations for Budget 2022 has been started and now Secretary (Budget) Siddharth Mahajan has left. When Prithvi Raj couldnotperformonthe position, Mahajan was brought in but merely one month back and now the search will have to be started yet again. Secretary (Ex- penditure) Naresh Thakral is still a new appointee as it has merely been six months since he came to the post. T. Ravikant (Reve- nue) is posted in the de- partment for a year and has a good grasp on the work. However, in the coming Jnuary when he will be promoted to the rank of Principal Secre- tary after which he would have to be trans- ferred and therefore a new officer will have to besearchedforthisspot. Then there is word of transferof RaviJainand Excise Commissioner Jogaram. In summation it can be said that Akhil Arora would face a challenge in effective- ly getting newly ap- pointed officers to work in the ‘technical’ Finance Department. In Gehlot govern- ment’s present bu- reaucratic scenario, where ‘delivery’ has become a rare visibil- ity, Arora carries a ‘delivery flagship’ in day to day functioning of finance and health departments. SUSHMITA AIND sushmita.aind@firstindia.co.in eing a Christian, I have always missed the charm of per- forming Pujas at home, but, that never stopped me from cel- ebrating Diwali in a manner that made it a special occasion for me. I remember when I would visit my friends and help them decorate their houses, how important it would be to clean the entire house and fill it with lights and colours. Refueling all the Diyas when the ‘ghee’ would get over was a task but that can be taken care of if we use electric lights which often come in various designs. Var- ious scented Diyas and can- dles add a perfect vibe to the festive season. Rangolis, the silent charm of this season, can be decorated by using various flowers instead of just plain colours. If you feel too artistic, you may also add Diyas to your Rangolis. For all the picture perfect mo- ments, don’t forget to colour code your decorations and before anyone enters your house, make sure to let them see the positivity reflected through the Bandarwals which you may decorate us- ing tassels and Torans.
