DEFINITIONS, WHEN AND WHERE
TO USE IT.

ONLINE PRACTICE OF PRESENT PERFECT
• https://www.gamestolearnenglish.com/perfect-tense-game/
HAVE YOU BEEN PLANNING YOUR FUTURE?
•read and listen the question. If you have been
doing what the teacher ask, please stand up.
Example:
How many of you have been trying meals for
another country?
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN THINKING IN
CONTINUE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES?
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN THINKING TO
WORK THIS SUMMER?
WHO HAS BEEN WAITING TO END SCHOOL TO
LIVE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?
WHO HAS BEEN WATCHING A DRAMA SERIE
ON TV / STREAMING?
WHO HAS BEEN STUDYING ANOTHER LANGUAGE
BY YOUR OWN?
HOW MANY OF YOU HAS BEEN READING A
COMIC BOOK?
•Is an action that happens before another action in
the past.
- he had bought the house before he lived there
First past action Second past
action
PAST PERFECT…
•As we said before, the past perfect happened before
another past action. But when do we use past
perfect or past simple?
•She had played guitar before she entered to the
band
•She entered to the band after she had played
PAST PERFECT VS PAST SIMPLE
•The importance of the use of past
perfect or past simple is the use of
BEFORE and AFTER.
•Before = past perfect, past simple.
•After = past simple, past perfect.
•She had studied before the test started.
•I injured my friend by mistake after I had
kicked in the ankle playing football.
•They worked the rest of the day after they
had eaten their lunch.
•Emily had driven to Tokyo before she went to
Osaka.
WHAT HAPPENS FIRST: IDENTIFY WHAT
HAPPEN FIRST AND RECOGNIZE THE
PAST PERFECT.
If the word After is use at the beginning of the
sentence, we use PAST PERFECT and then PAST
SIMPLE.
After she had played guitar, she entered to the band
After I had prepared the food, I ate with my friend.
EXCEPTIONS…
A- The dog __________ (bark) too many times
before the thieves _________ (enter) to the
house.
B- She __________ (buy) the medicine after she
_________ (visit) the doctor.
C- After I ________ (travel) to Europe, I _______
(go) to Rio de Janeiro.
D- The band _______ (play) in the show after
COMPLETE THE SENTENCES WITH THE CORRECT
USE OF PAST PERFECT OR PAST SIMPLE.
