2. COMPUTER NETWORK
•A network consists of two or more computers that
are linked in order to share resources, exchange
files or allow electronic communications.
•The computers on a network may be linked through
cables, telephones lines, radio waves, satellites or
infrared light beams.

Computer networks are categorized according to:
i. How they are organized physically.
ii. The way they are used.
iii. The distance over which they are operate.

•It covers a small area.
•It usually connects the computers and other devices
within one office or a building or group of buildings.
•Its transmission speed is typically 10 Mbps to 1000
Mbps.

•It covers a large area.
•It connects computers and other devices in different
cities and countries.
•It consists of several LANs connected together.
•Its transmission rate is typically 56 Kbps to 50
Mbps.

•It covers an area of a city.
•It is usually used to connect two or more LANs in a
city or town.
•It provides higher data speed than LAN.

•It connects personal devices using wired and
wireless technology.
•These personal devices are typically located within
range of about 30 feet.
