 Alveoli loses its elasticity and expands
 Cell wall of alveoli is damaged
 Surface area of alveoli become smaller
 Exchange of gases become less efficient
 Damage to alveoli is permanentand the ability to breathe well cannot be
restored

2. Diseases: Bronchitis
Causes(Damaging Substance):
Infected by virusor bacteria
Effects:
 Bronchioletube is inflamed with the production of alot of mucous
Symptoms:
Continuouscoughing, difficulty in breathing, chest pain and sore throat.

3. Diseases: LungCancer
Causes(Damaging Substance):
Cigarette smoke, exposed to asbestos and carcinogens
Effects:
 Lungcancer is caused by uncontrollablecell division
 Can spread to other organsin the body for example liver and bones
Symptoms:
Continuouscoughing, difficulty in breathing, coughing out blood

4. Diseases: Asthma
Causes(Damaging Substance):
Substances that can cause an allergy reaction, for exampledust and pollen grains.
Effects:
 Bronchioletube becomes inflamed, swollen and smaller
 Difficultfor air to enter and leave through the lungs
Symptoms:
Cough, difficulty in breathing
