This document analyzes and compares two potential double page spread images for representing a rock star holding a pink ukulele instead of an electric guitar. Image 1 uses a low angle shot but has distractions and does not clearly show the model's features. Image 2 uses a flat angle shot at the model's level, better showing her angry facial expression and body language as she points at the ukulele in frustration. The document concludes that Image 2 more clearly conveys the model's emotions and is selected for representing the stereotype-breaking concept.
2. Double Page Spread Images
After taking my pictures, going through them all and then narrowing down my choices, I
was able to select the best two images. At the end of the presentation I have selected the
image I will use for my Double Page Spread.
3. Research for Images
• I did some research to fin if there were any
images that looked like what I planned to
create
• However there were not, which tells me that
this image has broken a stereotypical
representation of rock stars and the target
audience.
4. DPS Images
1)
Advantages:
•Good use of a low angle shot
•Conforms to the rule of thirds
Disadvantages:
•Distractions in the background
•Model’s features are not clearly shown
•Model’s whole body is not in the shot
•I chose to get the model to stand up on something
so that they would be higher than the camera in a
low angle shot.
•This is able to represent that through their ‘rock
star’ status the model has power and strength and
is looking down at the camera.
•Therefore the audience will fell as though they are
looking up at the model and be aware of their
power
•The use of the pink ukulele as a prop contrasts with
the model’s dark and gothic black costume. It is
smaller than an electric guitar and the colour seems
to represent youth and femininity.
•The models facial expression is looking at the
camera in disgust to convey their anger while they
awkwardly hold the ukulele.
•This Image represents and reinforces the
stereotype that rock stars typically have electric
guitars.
5. DPS Images
2)
•The use of the flat angle shot seems as the viewer is on the same level
as the model. This way they are able to see the emotion in the models
features and understand her body language better.
•The models eyebrows are lowered showing confusion or anger. Her
lips are slightly curling up in a pout to show she is upset. The model is
pointing at the ukulele prop, which tells the audience that she is not
happy about it. She is also holding it away from her body slightly and
gripping it by the neck tightly which supports her angry appearance.
•The models Jumper is also slightly falling down from one of her
shoulders more than the other. This can show she is untidy and
uncaring in her appearance, or further support her angry/
temperamental rock star appearance as it reflects her frustrated mood.
•The use of the pink ukulele as a prop contrasts with the model’s dark
and gothic black costume. It is smaller than an electric guitar and the
colour seems to represent youth and femininity.
•The models facial expression is looking at the camera in disgust to
convey their anger while they awkwardly hold the ukulele.
•This Image represents and reinforces the stereotype that rock stars
typically have electric guitars.
Advantages:
•Good use of the Midshot
•Conforms to the rule of thirds
•Better facial expressions used
•Better body language
Disadvantages:
•Model’s features are not clearly shown
6. Image Chosen
2)
•I chose this picture over the previous images as I
feel that it shows the model’s emotions better as the
camera is closer to her face and able to capture her
expression and body language. It will present her
anger at being given the ukulele clearer to the
audience than the previous images.
•This image is a good representation of rock stars or
the target audience of average people that enjoy
rock music as the model’s costume is black which
would represent certain groups such as ‘punks’ or
‘Goths’ within the target audience. The way the
model wears the clothes with her sleeves pushed up
to display her bracelets which conveys her femininity
and represents women in music.
•Also one of her sleeves slightly falling off her
shoulder shows she perhaps does not care about her
appearance and is not trying too hard to look
perfect, she just looks normal, which may be
appealing to the audience as they might want to read
about a celebrity that is more normal and like
themselves despite their ‘rock star’ status.
