 EDUCATION: University of Havana, Law School in 1945
 During his studies he involved himself in protest clashed with police
 INTERESTS: Political Climate of Cuban Nationalism, Anti-Imperialism and Socialism
 He was graduated in 1950
 He started an unsuccessful law firm before entering parliamentary politics
 He served as the Prime Minister until 1976
 On December 3rd he became the President of Cuba and remained till 2008
 Castro is known as a Charismatic leader
 He had strong sense of command over his voice
 He brought and developed many factories & plantations
 He created right to free education at highest university level
 Implemented free medical, hospital and dental cares and improved their health care
 Provided equal rights to all citizens
 Bought an end to Racial Discrimination
 Died on: 25 November 2016

 Most significant changes brought by the Cuban Revolution improved the lives and status of women
 The labour code ensures equal rights, opportunities for women in fields/sectors with equal salary
 After 3 months of revolution, Cuban Women's Federation (FMC) was created
 Started in 1960, developed many training centers within Cuba
 Its aim is to support women in work and improve its literacy rate
 Now it has 73,710 branches all across the country
 These were initiated during his period and well defined till now

 Prior to March 2008 mobile phones were banned. But in March 2008 Raul Castro lifted the ban on
mobile phones
 Cuba is called as the Sugar Bowl Of World, It has about 38.61% share in
overall sugarcane production as per the year 2013-14
 The world’s smallest among birds is in Cuba its around 5cm only
 There are 2 types of currency:
1. cup = Cuban people use (only for Cuban people)
2. cuc = Cuban convertible pesos (only for tourist)
 Cuba has the best cigars in the world, one box of carabao’s price in India is Rs. 7,960/-
 The famous Bacardi rum is originally from Santiago de Cuba
 Till 1997 Christmas was not an official holiday
