Q5: How did you
attract/address your
audience?
There are many elements
throughout my magazine
which will attract
members of my target
audience…
By using my
audience research I
was able to find out
that my target
audience like to
know about
upcoming gigs and
new bands and so I
added these into my
magazine.
I also added a chance
to win some Fleetwood
Mac tickets on my Puff
on the front cover.
The colour scheme is incredibly
influential…
Many people can overlook the colour scheme
on magazines and even if people don’t think
they notice the colours, your mind
subconsciously leads you away from the
colours you associate with things other than
yourself.
The main
colours in
my
magazine
are Black,
White and
Red. These
colours look
more
mature and
casual
compared
to the
bright pinks
and yellows
you see on
Pop
Magazines.
The bright pink connotes the Pop genre as usually
younger people listen to Pop music and so the less
vibrant colours attract more mature music listeners
and find that my magazine looks more appealing to
them.
It may also be because of the
clothes that people who listen to
indie music stereotypically wear.
They tend to wear similar colours
to the ones included in my
There are no bright colours
throughout my magazine which
suggests that the younger generation
are excluded from this magazines
target audience and that they will not
The positioning statement “The home of raw and unique music”
is simple yet effective. I used this to attract the audience as
this is used to illustrate to them that ‘ROAR’ is the magazine
that will offer unique music to those who actually listen to the
indie genre and the word ‘home’ shows that the magazine is
here to stay.
The masthead is used to attract the audience
due to its size and colour. The original font
also shows the newness of the magazine.
The name of the magazine ‘ROAR’ is actually play on words
in a way. When I asked my target audience to describe
indie music, ‘Raw’ and ‘Unique’ were words that came up
often. This means that my magazine is exactly what they’re
looking for in a magazine about the music they listen to.
