A U film is suitable for ages 4 and over and contains no sexual references or strong violence. 12A films are not suitable for those under 12 without an adult, and can contain discreet nudity and sex. 15 rated films prohibit those under 15 and contain strong language and violence but minimal discrimination. 18 rated films are only for ages 18 and up and can contain any content.

2. What is the BBFC?
• The BBFC is a company that classifies film into which age category they should
be and who should view their movie.The BBFC stands for British Broadband Of
Film Classification.They categories films into a variety of age groups like U,
R18,18, 12A and 15.

3. Universal
• A U film should be suitable for audience aged 4 and over.There is no sexual
references and it has mild violence.These types of movie uses mostly comedic
music and silly scenes.

4. 12 and 12a Rated Films
• This rating category is not generally suitable for children aged
under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema
unless accompanied by an adult.This is no discrimination or fool
language but there is a discreet amount of nudity and sex in these
movies.

5. 15 Rated Films
• This rating category is no one younger than 15 may see a 15 film in a cinema. No
one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video work.There will be strong
language and violence in these movies and there will also a small amount of
discrimination but they won’t include discriminating language and drug use is
shown but not endorsed.

6. 18 Rated Films
• No one younger than 18 may see an 18 film in a cinema. No one
younger than 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video work. Adults
should be free to choose their own entertainment.
