1. Research for Ancillary Text: Film Magazine Cover
- For my second ancillary text, I will be creating a front
cover of a film magazine and so I have done some
research into different conventions of the front covers of
film magazines that feature gangster films
Common Themes amongst Film magazine covers
featuring Gangster films:
- Central image usually of a main character or
characters superimposed onto a background.
- Colours used are often muted or faded
- Text is often monochrome colours- grey, white, ect.
- Font is clear and easy to read- more likely to be
memorable
- Bold/bright colours are used sparingly and are used
mainly to add emphasis to a certain part of the
magazine
- Names of films are usually in the biggest, boldest font
and are sometimes accompanied by the names of
the actors, character names or taglines from the film.
- Central images are usually the focus of the cover-
everything is centred around them
