Question 3
1. Question 3
- What have you learned from your
audience feedback?
After I had completed the first draft of my trailer, as a class
a screening was arranged to gain some constructive
audience feedback, this allowed me to find out; what was
good about my trailer, what the audience enjoyed, how I
could improve and what I had successfully, making it
conventional to real thriller trailers.
2. • In order to gain feedback I handed out
questionnaires and also conducted both audio
and visual interviews with members of the
audience, to obtain in depth qualitative data
as well as quantitative data from the
questionnaires.
3. Audio Feedback

4. The audience
• Altogether, there were 32 Participants who took part in the screening and
completed the questionnaires,
• This audience ranged form ages 16- 50+, this wide age range was
beneficial to me as different age groups have varying views and this meant
that I was more likely to receive a greater amount of constructive criticism
enabling me to improve my product a great deal.
• However, around half of the participants were media students and within
the age range of my target audience and this meant that if they were
pleased my target audience would definitely be pleased with the trailer, it
would be successful in its purpose meaning that most people would want
to watch the full film.
• Because they were media students they could also give me advise on the
more technical parts of the trailer and I found this largely beneficial, the
more criticism they better I could improve my product.
5. • The following slides show the data gathered
from my questionnaires in the form of pie
charts.
12. What was good/ what they enjoyed.
• I found that the majority understood the storyline and also really
liked it, felt that the music was conventional to its genre, and the
short length of scenes were fitting.
• I gathered this from the fact that 94% of participants said that they
understood the storyline ( the title of the film was assisting to their
understanding) and 78% said they would watch the film.
•
13. How I could improve?
• Change the typography, make it more clear
that Rachel was being stalked/ watched.
• Include a voice over since most thriller trailers
have voiceovers, more characters to make the
film’s title more impactful.
14. What I had included which made it
look conventional to real trailers?
• Short scenes, suspense, background music
were the most common themes from my
feedback.
15. What I did with this feedback? / How did I change my trailer to
incorporate the feedback and improve it?
• I Thought of ways to make it more clear that Rachel was
being followed by winter, I decided to include a voice over
coming from winter’s point of view, his thoughts instead of
a narrator, since some of the responses from my audience
feedback also said a voice over is a possible way of
improving the trailer, it was even more of a plus.
• I changed the font of the typography to make it more fitting
with the genre.
• The editing phase was incomplete, so the precision and
timing of transitions were tightened up and I added some
quiet background music to play throughout rather than the
traffic or silence. Which really made a huge difference
keeping the audience engaged.
16. • Audience theory such as Blumer and Katz’s Uses and
Gratification theory argues that the audience is active and
uses the text for its own gratification and pleasure, the
main reasons for the consumption of media are;
diversion, escapism information and pleasure. Pleasure and
escapism seem to be the main reasons for watching thriller
films as they entertain, distract us from our daily lives and
responsibilities, gripping our attention, creating suspense
and feelings of anxiety in the audience.
• Since I received feedback saying that my trailer successfully
created suspense and that they would watch the film the
feedback tells me that I have managed to entertain and
divert my audience.
